I like Froch, when you see him interviewed by Kugan Cassius and he is relaxed, he seems like a good guy.

I just think that him and Groves wind each other up.I like Groves too.

Re: Froch on sky
Why is everyone suddenly so concerned about how Froch comes across as a person? He's a boxer FFS, the only thing I'm interested in watching him do is punch someone else in the face, I'm not expecting him to start reciting sonnets in his pre-fight press conferences.
Froch may not be particularly charismatic but he seems a decent enough bloke. He's got a high opinion of himself, but how many boxers don't? At least he walks the walk as well as talking the talk.

Re: Froch on sky
Froch is a class boxer and I would love to see frch v groves three
still the biggest fight that could happen in uk
still the biggest fight that could happen in uk
Re: Froch on sky
Groves planted the seed for Froch Groves 3 in the post fight interview last night. The more Froch retaliates the better for Groves. Groves knows he can wind Froch up which in turn will generate interest for a third fight. If Froch doesn't want groves again he should ignore everything he says, Don't work for SKY on a Groves bill and announce a fight against some one else

'Lost 11 out of 12...'
Then beat the crap out of Taylor in the 12th.
It's not Golf, it's boxing - doesn't matter how much of a lead you have going into the last, if you get whupped, and don't beat the count, then you lose.
Coming 2nd to Ward in the Super Six is no shame, Ward is a very very special fighter, the only thing that will stop him going down as an ATG is lack of competition.
Froch will be remembered very fondly when he retires, he's got balls like great big

It's not a fight I care about seeing again. Groves just wants a big payday again.mullenman wrote:Froch is a class boxer and I would love to see frch v groves three

Re: Froch on sky
To me with Groves it's more self confidence, he simply believes that he is better than Froch, regardless of the result, he found a way to wind him up, especially before the first fight and took advantage of it. I wouldn't class him as arrogant though, just driven and very single minded, he trusts himself and his own abilities and prefers to do things alone than have a big team behind him pulling the strings.lefty wrote:I do find the Froch hate and comments on him being arrogant somewhat baffling. The way people go on in regards to his 'beef' with Groves you'd think George is the living embodiment of humility and the big, bad wolf Froch has done nothing but bully him.
Re: Froch on sky
Baffling? Really? I think given his actions and words it's patently obvious why some people think he's arrogant. I find your comment a little baffling to be honest.lefty wrote:I do find the Froch hate and comments on him being arrogant somewhat baffling. He's been calling himself a legend since before he fought Ward.

I'm sure Carl will fight his next fight for peanuts. All boxers want to fight for big money, why is that a criticism?lefty wrote:It's not a fight I care about seeing again. Groves just wants a big payday again.mullenman wrote:Froch is a class boxer and I would love to see frch v groves three

Re: Froch on sky
The fact that Froch rates himself is not a problem for me. All the best people need that huge self belief that they are the best, there's a fine line between confidence and arrogance and yes Froch definitely crosses it, but how many times has Groves also crossed that line - several times.
We live in such stupid times, Facebook, social media obsessed people who'd rather judge someone on whether they are good at talking tripe rather than what they can do actually in a fight. People would rather stick up for a one of the lads type like Hatton 'cos he likes a beer' - but who ultimately carried a fake world title for years but never really got questioned for that.
Froch would have got annihilated on these forums if he had a fake belt like WBO or whatever and had coasted through a bunch of crap defences. But he hasn't, he's done it the hard way, gone into people's back yards, won proper world titles and fought the best men available. Ultimately I have massive respect for that, it's old school and it's rare these days. All of the outside of the ring stuff is nonsense really.

Re: Froch on sky
How was Hatton's belt fake?
Also, do people realise it'll be ten years next year since Hatton beat Tszyu?
I don't really know who you're talking about regarding the loving Hatton cause he like a beer, his inbetween fights behaviour was probably the thing I disliked him for the most.
Also, want to talk about fighting the best, Ricky Hatton fought arguably the two best fighters of this generation. Not really the best argument there, mate.

I loved Hatton and watched him for years, but looking back at his record, it's clear through a large amount of the Warren years he had a ton of really low quality defences at the MEN Arena for the WBU title, which was most definitely a fake world title.SNG wrote:How was Hatton's belt fake?

His real defining moment was the Tszyu fight, a 35 year old Tszyu who you could argue he caught at the right time. He got flattened twice when he stepped up to the very top level.
Hatton was a true crossover star, but it's arguable who has actually achieved more in boxing, yet Froch still has a bunch of haters who won't give him any credit.

Re: Froch on sky
Rick beat the man, then moved up to fight the man. It's mental how underestimated he gets on here. Let Froch beat Ward and then move up and challenge Kov....
Re: Froch on sky
Do you know, I never think of that WBU, I always think of his world title as the Tszyu fight and thought you questioning the legitimacy of that. The WBU was definitely a fake world title. I see what you mean.
But the two personalities couldn't be more different. Froch is Froch, his achievements don't mean he deserves the level of popularity Hatton has, and he'll never get it because he's too combative all the time. You can say he won this, did that and his in ring career deserves nothing but the upmost respect, but that's only half of it, it's always been that way too.
As for who achieved more, probably an unpopular choice and I imagine I'll get slated but I think Hatton. Three time world champion in two weight classes, was the top 140lber, Froch has never been number one and probably never will be and he isn't going to LHW anytime soon.

Re: Froch on sky
Froch annoys me a little bit with some of the stuff he says but he's earned the right to talk as much crap as he wants IMO. True British boxing great whose CV stands up to anyone in the sport.
I'm a big fan of both Carl and George and thought that George could beat Carl (still do a little bit if he could avoid the big right - big if though), but ultimately I feel George's best chance was the first fight and he blew his load meaning he was tiring more than Carl late on.
He would however have beaten Carl had he still had Booth in his corner IMO, who is a tremendous tactician.
I'd certainly like to see a third fight but can appreciate the reasons why it probably won't happen, there's no real reason why Carl would do it again unless GG can beat Dirrell and offer Carl the opportunity to win the WBC strap back, which could feasibly mean a monster of a fight next summer?
I'd love to see that as for me the only way GG wins now is to go all out and knock Carl out, I don't see how he can win on points as at some point he will either get careless or brave and it's lights out. Again.
Future world champion though for sure. Even though he was bloody embarrassing after the fight on Saturday.

Re: Froch on sky
Froch isn't everyone's cup of tea, but people watch him fight and that's all he cares for.
I don't know how you measure 'popularity' - is it the amount of people who wan't to watch you and hear from you (whether they like you or not) ?
I would strongly say it is.
If you use ticket sales, PPV sales and even throw into the mix things like followers on social media - then Froch comes out on top bar nobody.
The only person who taps into the same volume of public, is David Haye (because he's heavyweight, is regarded as attractive by lots of women / TV and has done the rounds on domestic television).
Haye for example has 1.04 million followers on Twitter, how many are boxing fans is probably 50% - but when it comes to buying his fights or not, it does not matter a jot does it whether they are A) a boxing fan or simply B) a Haye fan - as long as they get their cash out ? he has marketed himself the best - regardless of the boxrec general consensus on him (personally I rate him a lot).
Of Froch, Hatton and Calzaghe then I would suggest they all fall into pure boxing terms than general popularity with the masses.
453k followers - Froch
407k followers - Hatton
270k followers - Calzaghe
It would seem Froch has benefited from being an active fighter when Twitter really got off the ground in 2009 onwards - but he barely tweets anything. Whereas other fighters often tweet a fair bit, so that makes them more popular to follow too. So it probably evens out somewhat, if not more in Carl's favour.

Another possible argument is would Hatton got away with his extremely rough style against Tszyu if that fight was outside of the UK? I'm not talking Australia or Russia either.TheCobra wrote:I loved Hatton and watched him for years, but looking back at his record, it's clear through a large amount of the Warren years he had a ton of really low quality defences at the MEN Arena for the WBU title, which was most definitely a fake world title.SNG wrote:How was Hatton's belt fake?

I'm not sure myself. Was a 35 yr old Tszyu better than a prime Ward? Hatton won his welterweight title against Collazo who is hardly elite and then if you look at the opponents Hatton fought after Tszyu it's ..... Maussa (one of the crudest boxers i've ever watched) ,Collazo, Urango, Castillo (who was well past his best) and then Mayweather. Are they better than the likes of Bute, Kessler,Pascal, Abraham, etc?SNG wrote:Do you know, I never think of that WBU, I always think of his world title as the Tszyu fight and thought you questioning the legitimacy of that. Erm... to be a broadcaster you have to come across well... in person. He's not just a boxer, he's also being a sports analyst (as per Saturday and getting paid for it), a celeb and a reality TV star. If he was/or was just trying to be a boxer, he would only be on telly when he is boxingBoxerbeetle wrote:Why is everyone suddenly so concerned about how Froch comes across as a person? Agree mate, I don't want to take away too much from what Hatton did as he was great for British boxing, but due to his popularity and fanbase he was always in the driving seat for who he fought, where and when - you can definitely say they picked some of the weaker champions and defences barring Tszyu. The only time you could say he wasn't in the negotiating driving seat was the Mayweather and Pacman fights.lefty wrote:I'm not sure myself. Was a 35 yr old Tszyu better than a prime Ward? Plus Hatton turned away what could have been a really good British scrap and rivalry with Witter. You could possibly say that Groves is Froch's version of Witter. Froch got in there and shut him up and got the paydays to go with it.
Re: Froch on sky
Well another way of adding to what you said about Hatton's fan base dictating who he fought. Would he of been in a position and would the likes of Mayweather and Pacquaio of been interested in fighting him if he didnt have that huge fan base and thus marketability?TheCobra wrote:Agree mate, I don't want to take away too much from what Hatton did as he was great for British boxing, but due to his popularity and fanbase he was always in the driving seat for who he fought, where and when - you can definitely say they picked some of the weaker champions and defences barring Tszyu. And who he won what from is irrelevant, the question was who achieved more, and the answer is undoubtedly Hatton.
Re: Froch on sky
Yeh of course the fanbase he had helped massively in his quest to get those fights. I just meant that in the other fights people were just grateful to be fighting him so he probably took a large % of the purse and got the fight where he wanted it and all the advantages.lefty wrote: Well another way of adding to what you said about Hatton's fan base dictating who he fought. I think both the Mayweather and Pacquiao fights were slightly different in that he took less than 50% of the purse each time and had to give ground on referees etc etc.
