yea he used Toney, Hopkins, Jorge Castro as tune ups then. Who did u want him to fight??? lol
People want to say he was scared of Michalczewski......watch Jones fight Richard Hall then watch Michalczewski fight Richard Hall either fight. Jones was so much better than Hall, I was wondering where the hell did they find this guy. Then Hall fights Michalczewski and gave him all kinds of hell both fights.
Titles Middle to Heavy.....who else done that??? Comes into a heavyweight fight at 193lbs and dominates John Ruiz. Turned pro at Jr Middle.
Roy Jones jr

Re: Roy Jones jr
How come you say that Jones Jr's victory over Toney was because Toney had to lose too much weight (not Jones Jr's fault is it?), yet you don't want to hear the fact that Jones Jr was weight drained for Tarver?KBB wrote:Roy's biggest victories have question marks by them:
Ruiz-worst of the HWs titleholders at the time.
Toney-had to lose too much weight within the given 4 weeks leading up to the fight
Hopkins-still somewhat green at the time and did not have the degree/level/pedigree of training that Jones had (who came from experienced trainers, Nutrionist, etc., etc.).
He also lost to some of his biggest competitors:
Tarver-twice and even the first win was controversial, I don't even want to hear the excuses about Roy being weight drained and whatnot
Hopkins-it took Jones 10 years to give BHop a rematch but yet he has the audacity to talk about Mayweather, we saw how easily BHop won it.
Johnson-made it look easy, thoroughly dominated him from start to finish and then put him to sleep worse than Tarver did and this is an old Johnson who had been beaten by many (many of those controversially).
Let's not forget that he used Roids/PEDS so he had to cheat to get an edge, so with all that I would say that he is suspect and definitely overrated to some degree but not totally overrated.
He had great reflexes but terrible overall defensive fundamentals.
Does it mean that the excuse is valid when it benefits Jones Jr, but not when it doesn't, or do you mean he wasn't weight drained for Tarver 1?
Re: Roy Jones jr
If he fights Huck i hope the ref is on the ball. The only thing he has done since getting sparked by Green is a SD over Glazewski.
An absolute champion, but unfortunately at this stage of his career I see him getting seriously hurt against someone like Huck .

and even this do not count... as it was bad decision.amwsnw wrote:If he fights Huck i hope the ref is on the ball. The only thing he has done since getting sparked by Green is a SD over Glazewski.

A strange one too.
How often does the visiting fighter have a highway robbery decision go his way?
Re: Roy Jones jr
Jones Jnr was brilliant, he also was a cheat and he wanted paying top dollar to face less than fantastic opposition; at his best he had the beating of almost everyone in his division, he's also boxed at least 10 years past when he ought to be retired.
Re: Roy Jones jr
You asked a question and here's the answer but try not to get upset with my response; the reason why I won't accept a BS weight drained excuse for Jones is because he only weighed about 193 or less on the day of the weigh-in vs Ruiz if I recall correctly and let's not forget that Roy walked around far heavier than his normal fighting weight of 175.Syntax Error wrote:How come you say that Jones Jr's victory over Toney was because Toney had to lose too much weight (not Jones Jr's fault is it?), yet you don't want to hear the fact that Jones Jr was weight drained for Tarver?

The other reason is this; Tarver is known to walk around at 218lbs before he cut to 175 and that is far heavier than Jones has ever been, so if you are going to use a lame ass "weight drained" excuse for the Cheater and Roid taking Roid Jones then you have to say that Antonio was drained as well.
I think that is a fair assessment. As far as Toney, Roy cherrypicked a moment when it was well-known that James blew up in between bouts and Jones used that to his advantage, sure it isn't Roy's fault the Michelin Donut Man Toney didn't lose all that weight and not being properly conditioned for their fight but you have to know this is why I said there is a ? mark on Jones' biggest wins.
Anyone really know how long Roy was cheating using his PEDS and whatnot??

That is a perfectly fair assessment. 8)

Well you know how some people are regarding Jones, they get upset when you say something even near what I stated and I figured you to be a fan but at least you proved you're not an unreasonable one.Syntax Error wrote:Why would I be upset? That is a perfectly fair assessment. 8)
