Lackeos wrote:The original post is completely idiotic. Most detraction from Wilder prior to the fight was rational skepticism due to him not having done anything that would validate his hype. He was a complete question mark in a lot of areas, because there's really nothing to be proven from KO'ing Audley Harrison. Now Wilder has been in a fight where he answered a lot of questions about a lot of his attributes, and there is no longer as much cause for skepticism. Having said that, he was getting more credit than he earned before the fight, and the way that he's been anointed the new undisputed champion after Wlad retires, I feel like people never learn when it comes to overhyping a fighter. Wilder is a titlist, a current top 5 heavyweight, and 1 of the top 5 candidates to take over when Wlad is gone. Just leave it at that for now and try to avoid prematurely inducting him into the hall of fame on the basis of a win over Stiverne.
Agreed. I could see him beating the likes of Povetkin, Pulev, and Fury. I could also see him getting knocked out by all 3. He showed me he's not a complete hype job but for some perspective his record is still not nearly as good as Michael Grant's pre-Lennox Lewis.

I was impressed by how he boxed in a disciplined manner for 12 rounds, but beating Stiverne--a good fighter but nonetheless an underdog whose best wins were a come from behind victory over Ray Austin and the pair of wins over Arreola--isn't enough for me to be confident that he'll ever rule the division. I think he's top 5 for sure though, and I'm looking forward to seeing him fight more good opponents of various styles and sizes.
sorry, but that stupid. if there was a ton of guys like tyson, holyfield or bowe today, than i also would truly be skeptical of wilder would rule the division as clear cut #1.
but as of todays heavyweight reality, there is little doubt that he is the future. him or jushua. top 5 is total bullcrap.
povetkin couldnt ko a cruiserweight and was almost losing, some say lost to a guy like huck, a guy wilder would in 2 rounds
stiverne was rated 4 at boxrec and was in most everybodys top 4 and he won like 2 rounds and basicly got chredded
glazkov, a guy who got a SD against scott
fat solis
jennings, who is flatfooted and by far not as powerful or athletic as wilder.....
slow, limited, unathletic pulev......
there is wlad, fury, wilder. wlad, i dont list him even as a boxer, because he is a wrestler and should be dq in every fight. fury is totaly overrated, just happens to be lucky he is tall. but against somebody close as tall as him and much more athletic he wont have a chance.
THIS POST ---- 100% SPOT ON .

thanks ;;-)

Dafuq is this thread all about!? I'm not a hater but don't think Wilder is a great in the making either. People who criticize do so because he often shows poor technique and leaves himself wide open. Nothing to do with being black or American. And you grouping all Europeans together is just as bad!

Good call, dananba7. There are a small group of bigots from all colors who obsess against successful people of other colors or religions. But 99% of criticism of a Deontay Wilder or a klitschko for that matter is NOT color based. If Dafug had said bigots instead of Europeans, his thread would have made a lot more sense.
Europeans and Americans have a lot more on their plate worrying about the economy, terrorism, and their own lives in general. Obsessing on what color the HW champion is not a concern for healthy people.

Friggin thick headed Europeans.
It really chaps their asses that a black american will rule the division when Wlad retires.
Is this the right way to start a post? Wilder in my opinion surprised both his fans and his critics. Few felt he could box and move as well as he showed.
Credit him and his trainer. But is Wilder the man to beat after Wlad retires? He'll have to beat some live bodies interested in fighting back before anyone makes that claim.
Stiverene's performance was awful and he seems to lack effort. So who is Wilder? A skinny well muscled type. He could be the next Cleveland Williams. If your not familiar with Williams, the guy hit hard, but to use an american analogy he also had the chin of an NFL kicker.

Price is crap only because he can't take a shot. Neither Wilder nor Fury are anywhere near crap.

Oh cool so you're not a racist, just a moron. That's worse. Only a true moron would lump David Price in with Deontay Wilder. Bahaha. David Price. Bahaha. Stiverne would knock his ass through the ropes.

Wilder's jab was better than expected and useful in this fight, down the road it could be blocked slipped or out distanced depending on the talent level in front of him.
Power ... Wilder can punch, can he rally ?
Chin ... Stiverne caught Wilder on a few occasions and Wilder stood up firm.

My hat is off to those of you that did come on the board and give Wilder credit for a good win, and answer some of the questions everyone had about him. Boxing needs more good fans like you.
There are still a few that refuse to do so, but that's boxing I guess. I'm sure it would have been the same way if Stiverne had won.

Yeah, it's a true shame when beating someone like Stiverne doesn't answer many questions about a fighter. Or do certain fighters deserve more praise for doing less? Wilder stepped up his competition, that's good, it's a start. No fighter is free from receiving criticism and no forum member is above giving it. It's not like Wilder is ducking Huck like GGG is ducking Lara, right?

danconnollyyweire, did it ever occur to you that you may not be a boxing fan? Fury and Wilder are riddled with potential and Price is as exciting as hell. Is everything "Lame," man? I think Tarkas and I have found your category.

Their latest Great Black Dope. Only fights made to order opponents. Pencil legs. A knockout waiting to happen.

All Wilder has to do is keep winning. He has a good start beating Stiverne who had a belt and only one loss. Fury is talking crap now, so hopefully he doesn't run after Wilder calls his bluff. Other good guys in the top ten to fight as well. Fury will use the "waiting for Wlad" excuse for as long as he can.

As a fan of both Wilder and Fury I do not agree that Fury would run away from this fight.
Fury really believes he is the best in the division.I think if Wilder's team offers the chance to fight Fury
will jump all over it.
