Smith has little to no chance but I'm glad he's got the fight,I'd rather if Ward's to have an easier fight after the lay off it was against one of our boys rather than Periban or whoever

I just hope Ward's regressed enough to make it fun,Paul wont freeze so I just hope he makes Andre uncomfortable and drag him into a bit of a fight otherwise it could be a one sided beatdown before a KO

Ward's a crafty bugger with the head, hope Smith doesn't get cut - Paul stood up to some hard whacks from Abraham, I think he'll take it to a decision.

That's one thing that doesn't get wrote about as much as his skills, his head coming in,he can be a dirty fighter,he got away with murder against Kessler

I always felt he got an easy ride in the Super 6,he always fought in the US and fought a couple of replacements,Green and Bika, although I'm not sure if Bika fight ended up being out the tourney, either way he never fought Dirrell or Taylor, I know that wasn't Ward's fault they withdrew but why didn't he fight in Europe?

Very different nature of task to AA though; Smith couldn't cope with DeGale's style and speed, that feels like a more relevant comparison for me.

Good luck to him though.

I don't think Ward knows where Europe is!

He probably has convulsions when he leaves California & drives into Nevada, let alone leaves the contiguous United States of America completely.

Good luck Smigga, smash him up, a once in a lifetime opportunity, Ward has been out for a while, this is a good time to fight.

I think if Paul Smith was ever going to beat Andre Ward it is now, but it's an incredibly tough ask.

The guy before his layoff was a genuine contender for being the P4P best, and if he is near his old levels then I can only see a clear win for Ward.

Really unsure how Smith is mixing in these circles.

He has two wins over Dodson, he's not big at the weight, easily cuts up, hasn't demonstrated a canon of a knock out blow and lets be honest if you look at his wins record it has come against opposition with 750+ wins against over 500 losses. Journeyman all round.

Having been blown out by young prospects Groves and Degale and without ever "rebuilding" he has parachuted in at the elite level. Very bizarre and really rather absurd.

Just looked through his record again he really has largely fought (losses aside) a who's who of no bodies and safe picks without previously stepping out of domestic level.

Eddie must be owed some favours...!

3 time world title challenger now for Paul Smith. Granted he's never beat anyone of note to earn the shot but he was high in the wbo rankings to get the fight against Abraham and on the back of 2 hard fought fights he's been picked by Wards team. I say hats off to Paul for performing very well against Abraham. This will be a good payday for the lad who I can't see having many fights left. Good luck Smigga.

How long before Sky mention Honeyghan or "scientifically proven hardest puncher" on The Contender?

He isn't! Ever!

Sorry mate, there wasn't really much point in you finishing that post

Paul Smith isn't even the best Super middleweight in his own family.

Smith's interview with IFL posted yesterday was decent. He never said he would win, just that he would give his all and not let anyone down. Also that the money was too good to refuse which is fair enough. Almost like a journeyman role for him.

When Smith inevitably kicks Wards arse,I hope Eddie gets in touch with Dodson for a 3rd dust up,its the only logical fight ,the public demand it

I'd rather see a Steven Bendall rematch.

No, it's not a great fight.

Smith doesn't deserve the level of disrespect that he is getting though.

Why is he so much more ridiculous of an opponent than Edwin Rodriguez was?

Same here - I have been saying it for years, I just don't get it.

I can only assume that he has somehow got his hands on Eric's private DVD collection and a few people are helping him out to keep him quiet.
