Best is when you go to events and the casuals are there. "Wow it's Jimmy Lennon Jr!!!" No that's Buffer...
"Scott Quigg is the new Ricky Hatton"

ILikeBeer wrote:"Tyson Fury is going to beat Klitschko."

And there is some knowledgeable fight fans who are saying it too (not me by the way).

A few crazy things I have seen or experienced:
1. At Hatton-Tszyu, a drunken Scouser dribbling into my ear "Ricky Hatton's the best fighter in the world because he's fooking sound".
2. On Sky Sports News or Sky News some dickhead presenter trying to be a smart arse to Groves saying something along the lines of "so when are we going to see yourself and Amir Khan in the ring together, now that would be a fight". Edit: here it is.

3. After Haye-Klitschko overhearing casual fans agreeing with each other that the fight was definitely fixed.
4. I once had a flatmate who thought boxing was similar to wrestling in that it's scripted with predetermined outcomes.
5. At Cheltenham in a taxi queue being stuck beside some clown from Sheffield telling me repeatedly "remember the name - Kid Gallagher, Kid Gallagher, he's going to be the best British boxer of all time". No matter how many times I corrected him on the name he just kept going back to it "yeah man, Kid Gallagher, fooking brilliant fighter".

I hate when sports readers do that sort of thing. It happens quite a lot in non-football related sports.
Once after John Higgins won the World Snooker Championship, there was a newsreader who claimed that Alex Higgins was his dad. (He wasn't.) Another news reader I saw talking about the match said it was his opponent in the final's first time competing in the World Championships. (It wasn't.)
I get that a lot of newsreaders are reading from an autocue, but you'd think a bit of research would go into it. If you made a mistake that fundamental in football, you'd get crucified. Why is it acceptable in some other sports?

When casuals are talking about two fighters and one comments "I think XXX would kick the shit out of him". This is boxing so why the references to kicking?

Sky sports news boxing coverage can be cringeworthy at times, Eddie Hearn was on the other day and spent a few minutes talking about fights that are coming up and potential fights that are in the pipeline involving Matchroom fighters.
At the end of the interview the presenter said
"I'm amazed you can remember all those boxers names"

Always makes me laugh when a casual glances at a fight on tv & proclaims that the taller, more muscle-bound boxer should 'batter him easily'.

Way to get viewers to an event they're televising. Tell them the boxers aren't worth remembering.

Somebody once said something similar to me about Ray Robinson "He can't be that great if he's lost 19 times"

Definitely, same with MMA fans after the McGregor Mendes fight. Not everything's a bloody conspiracy ya know!

I've actually heard a guy say (really) that Lewis couldn't live with Rocky Marciano because rocky is 'way too big'. Seriously

When watching Froch/Groves 2 - after Groves was knocked down, unconscious - but just about managed to wake up and scrambled to his feet on jelly legs at the count of 9 - a guy I was watching it with was screaming at the ref for stopping it early again!

I'm sick of the standard Lewis didn't fight a prime Tyson. (Like I didn't know)
Also the standard Tyson was the best heavy of all time and would of demolished Lewis. ( sometimes I try and point out he lost to everyone who had a decent jab)
As you can see I'm a big Lewis fan. I can't talk to a casual about Lewis without them mentioning Tyson.

Yeah they can't seem to grasp that Tysons "prime" was 10 years before Lewis'.
In fact Lewis was only just turning pro as Tyson was coming to the end of his peak, they should have met in '96 as Lewis was Tysons WBC mandatory but Tyson dropped the belt to fight Bruce Seldon instead so Lewis and McCall met the following February for the vacant belt.

Years ago on holiday in Tenerife, being told by some boozed up halfwits from Sheffield that Ryan Rhodes was on his way to becoming the greatest welterweight of our era.

Not a casual but I saw that game show The Chase the other day and the question was boxing related and the 3 choices for answer were - Barry McGuigan - George Foreman - Muhammad Ali - and the daft bint answering goes "It's definitely not George Foreman because he's a chef"
