In context of that specific interview then no it`s not a joke.
It`s almost as though he`d already decided to retire and was somewhat humble rather than defensive as he quite often has been in interviews.
Definitely worth a look if you haven`t seen it yet.

Froch has been iin some fantastic bouts with top men from the division and he's stood his ground with them all. He has come across as a burk from time to time and he's not the most modest but he's got a very good résumé and he has got a hell of a lot out of being so disciplined and tough.

Boxing just got a bit poorer

He's got a standout resume but I wouldn't put it on the level of Mayweather and Pacquiao's.

Froch was a very good but not great fighter who made the most of what he had. He repeatedly fought top opposition and deserves a lot of respect for what he's achieved. I never warmed to him and usually hoped for him to be defeated, but I can't deny that he had an excellent career.

In the modern era of catch-weights, pull-outs and cherry picking, Carl Froch stood almost alone as a true warrior who consistently sought out the biggest and best challenges available to him.

He may not have won them all, but he can retire with his head held high. And like Lennox Lewis & Joe Calzaghe before him, his legacy and reputation will continue to grow long after his retirement.

Was hoping he'd stick around as there seems to be a buzz around the super middleweight weight in Britain at the moment. Always enjoyed watching Froch fights. I wish him luck in retirement.

When you look at his career in the round, from a school boy joining a gym wanting to learn how to box, to finishing his career as a multiple world champion with plenty of money and his marbles in tact, then you have to say that it is a very good career.

In short, he went in with everyone and beat all the top fighters (with the exception of Ward*) and now has an interesting job lined up as a pundit -he is an excellent pundit; very incisive and honest, and good on the details.

I wish him a very happy retirement from boxing and would like to say thank you for the memories. I also enjoyed his quib on Radio 4 this morning saying 'I'm not sure if you are aware, but I flattened Groves in front of 80,000 people at Wembley Arena :) What a way to finnish your career.

*He lost to Ward, but I would liked to have seen Ward travel over here, as Froch was a better fighter with a whole crowd behind him.

Froch admitted Ward was the better man, on one of the few occasions that he was humble. I cant honestly say I ever liked the man, but he was entertaining.

Its a shame Froch didn't get his fight in Vegas but if the desire has gone its a good time to retire. I've enjoyed watching his fights over the years and he was always entertaining

Froch has turned out to be a very good champion in the end. At first I didn't like his style and thought he was a bit of a knob, before he was a world champion but I have totally changed my mind on him and what he has achieved! a great pro and hard as nails respect, pretty funny as well! good luck for the future.

Groves 2 was a pretty dull contest in the main. Highlight reel KO - but like Hearns vs Hagler has probably gone into the realm of legend based on the over hype by the Sky guys post fight.

Hearns vs Hagler US commentary (not Al Bernstein but the main play by play) was hillarious - basically suggested Hagler was close to being KO'd - let alone the cuts drama.

After the KO vs Groves, Sky seemingly forgot about the previous 8 or so rounds which was nowhere near the first contest. Now, every slightly dull Sky fight - Nick Hawling always says "its hardly Froch/Groves at Wembley is it?"... mmm....

But anyway, don't want to take away anything from Froch - this post was more a response to handsofstone

Naz was champion from 1995-2001.

Espinosa was champion from 1995-1999. That is MOST of Hamed's reign, beating guys like McKinney, Gonzalez, Medina (a few times), Ramirez in the process.

He never fought Tony Pep - you've got the wrong Luis Espinosa - Doh

Shall we also not forget the likes of Junior Jones, Kennedy McKinney, Johnny Tapia, Erik freaking well Morales (yes, Erik was a featherweight immediately post Barrera 1 and won a version of the world title BEFORE Hamed's defense vs Sanchez).

No Hamed did not fight ALL the contenders.
