I understand where you are coming from but the big 4 were on a higher level and making big money boxing each other. McCallum was a dangerous opponent with a punishing style who was not well known or a big money earner. When looking at prospective opponents I can imagine him being passed over for someone who wasn't going to hammer their midsection.Syntax Error wrote:Quite.Ambling Alp II wrote:I think we are to the point that Mike McCallum has been called underrated so many times that he is now overrated.
Mike McCallum is far from underrated.
McCallum is so highly rated that many folk have invested their careers in peddling the notion that the Big 4 all ducked him!![]()
Four all time ATGs who all fought each other, sometimes more than once were apparently scared to fight Mike McCallum, if they are to be believed
Someone who is underrated does not have that said of them, ever.
McCallum is a genuine great & everybody knows it.

Re: Underrated Boxing Greats
The Fab 4 of boxing were looking for fights to secure their next generation$$$$$$$ future. I could never say they ducked the great Mike McCallum. They were busy fighting amongst themselves. The Body Snatcher came kind of late to be in the race. The same could be said of Donald Curry. By the time those 4 made their first million, it was about to make as much money as they could.
