The undercard fight was awesomesauce, I enjoyed the main event but whilst it was entertaining its earnest scrabbling (watched the replay over my breakfast, so I admit it lacked the white-knuckle immediacy of watching live) never made me once doubt the outcome; Mares has never been a hitter a at any weight & just wasn't going to win fighting that fight. Besides, Santa Cruz looked like a fecking welterweight, so Abner's kamikaze-style assaults early on didn't have me punching kittens as much as the announcing crew.

Good fight. Mares is still... Mares, but rather less so.

Santa Cruz is going to be difficult to beat until he fights someone remotely the same in-ring size as him, but will be kept away from anyone truly slick (Loma/Rigo would toy with him I'm sure, barring tiring versus the huge lump).

Good card. More Mexican lighter weight fighters please PBC, even when subjected to cynical matchmaking constraints at least it looks good as a spectacle.



PS: Isn't Hugo the spitting image of his dad? & also, he gets knocked down the same way, as well. Eerie.

It was better than good.

Mares did what he had to do and he pulled all but the part where he had to hurt LSC off well. Mares could have sat back and played a stick and move game but LSC would have built an early lead and never looked back. Furthermore, he would have been booed all the way to Syria by the crowd, etc.

Mares did make LSC adjust. LSC showed that ability. He adjusted and out boxed an excellent boxer. But Mares got a bit of a jump on him and made it close.

Of course it was not as exciting paying half attention the next day knowing the winner and that it went the distance.

I knew going in that this was a can't miss war and it lived up to my expectations as much as Pac v FMJ confirmed my suspicions.

LSC is still improving. You can toss out claims that Rigo and Loma would you with him but LSC is big, skilled and perfectly conditioned. He adjusts and overwhelms.

Loma has the size and pop to deal with LSC but he would have to prove it. Rigo would have his hands completely full with LSC's size, volume AND skills.

Nice fight but not impressed with their power.

I'm not sure how anyone could call the fight last night an "immediate classic" but it was a pretty good fight. Nothing great, but a good fight. The three televised fights together made for a nice night of boxing but in no way was LSC vs Mares a "classic".

This fight wasn't even close. How one judge saw that fight as a draw is beyond me. I had LSC winning every round but 2. When Mares wasn't holding, he was getting his head snapped back by a piston like jab and an impenetrable reach. Mares should have fought like he did in that first round for as long as he could. His corner never should have told him to box. Not against LSC. That's a mismatch on paper and in reality.

Fantastic victory for LSC. Clearly an elite fighter.

You had that fight 119-109. Everybody has an opinion. When this fight starts coming up on boxing classics shows within a year or so, you can disagree with their programming choice.

I consider it a classic and I think Mares made it close.

119-109 is a much worse card than 114-114

This fight will go down as a classic.

Although Santa cruz clearly won mares was always in it and never stopped trying.

Watching it sober now...through 6 and it's not as good as it was live...being a lil critical but I much prefered the Nakamura/Kaneko fight, or the Huck/Glowacki or the Salido Vs Martinez fight. Wasn't that dramatic thus far, rather sloppy, a lot of action but it wasn't quality action...

This was a good match up by the sounds of it.

a real competitive fight despite the score cards. |I had it 117/111. Undercard was great. A top night (morning here) of boxing.

This. I don't know what anyone else was watching, but there was little actual drama for me because within about thirty seconds I thought: "Mares isn't going to beat a welterweight fighting like that".

For me, Ceja-Ruiz was the better fight.

The crowd noise and excitement gave this fight a special feel but the action inside the ring was nothing special to me. I usually watch every good fight a second time the following day but i didn't have any interest in seeing this one a second time. The ambiance for the fight was great but to me it was a lopsided win that included too much holding by Mares. If Mares was penalized for it, the fight would have opened up. I do blame the ref.

Classic, Wow, are we that desperate? Nobody even got hurt. That's the 1st thing on the list for me.

I loved it,no one was hurt but the effort from both guys was superb and it was competitive which is what i want from fights

Back from a quick biz trip, turn on the tv to watch something on espn classic boxing and look what I find . . . Mares v LSC . . . Immediate classic.

Round 1 = great round

10-9 Mares

Round 2 = mares doing the Duran tripod. Lac establishing jab and lead right. Very close round of good boxing

19-19

Round 3= they meet in the middle and war around the ring. Mares quicker to land early. Lsc trying to measure and match mares activity. Unbelievable war in last 30 seconds.

29-28 Mares edges #3

Round 4= holy crap, they only show three rounds! Bastards.

They actually showed 1, 11, and 12. Now I need to see it again since I reversed my original scoring of 11 and 12.

Lol. What these dudes were doing in 11 and 12 after the first 10 rounds of war makes this a classic, IMO. Mares just kept coming to the final bell.

Two perfectly conditioned top level athletes showing heart, skill and professionalism start to finish.

Can't believe I didn't record this.

First time I've had that happen to me. I didn't notice that the piece is only 17 minutes long or pay attention to the little box with the round # in it.
