I thought Jack won by two rounds. Stats say Jack landed 56 punches more than Groves.
As other posters have said he hasn't looked the same since Froch and could probably do with a return to Booth who was far more savvy than Fitzpatrick and knew how to get the best out of him.
He got on my nerves storming out of the ring. He can't have any genuine gripes about last night.

A real disappointment as Degale - Groves for two world titles would have been a great night. Can't complain though, put down hard and just out finessed. I make that five fights with Fitzpatrick, 3 losses and 2 wins that were poor. Just not working out. Obviously a big part of that is simply finding his level, but looking at what Booth has done for Andy Lee in the same period, can't help but feel he fucked his career with that change.

If Groves had not been dropped would be have won on points?

Without the knockdown I'd still have Jack by a point. Although you could argue Groves was winning round 1 until the knockdown. Without the knockdown, a 10-9 round to Groves would have made it a draw in my eyes.
I said earlier in the post, it was pretty much a must win for GG. Ward and Degale won't entertain him now. He could go down the route of whoever wins out of the Russian and Buglioni but that isn't what he wanted.
He surely has to have a good think about what's next for him. Especially in relation to his trainer.
A rematch would always be an option but I suspect Jack will want an easier defence and then maybe look towards a bigger payday against Ward or Degale.

I thought Jack just about edged that. Groves just looks flat as hell! I just don't see where he goes from here now! DeGale probably won't entertain him. Maybe Sauerland can put together him and AA?

The corner advice from Fitzpatrick was terrible - basically just kept saying to throw the left jab-right cross combo. No wonder Groves looks so pedestrian & predicable now. As I said last night, he's unlikely to face a weaker world champion, he should have grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Jacks 2 cards were by 4 and 5 points they had him comfortably ahead.

:TU: thanks, I've not watched the bout yet, i've monopolised the telly last night and this morning with boxing so will probably watch tomorrow afternoon. Did Groves underperform or was Jack surprisingly good?

It would have been a draw. Groves would have won the round 10-9.

I had Jack by 2 or 3 points. Groves missed a lot and Jack's jab was very effective in places. I think Jack would have fought a better fight if he hadn't dropped Groves.

Jack fought well. He's nothing special but for a guy who was blown away in a round he was never hurt by the supposed bigger puncher.

Feel sorry for Groves it was a big opportunity for him but he just wasn't at his best. I though he would do a number on Jack but nope.

Only one fighter was getting a 116-111 in their favour, which is a pretty poor scorecard tbh.
I had it 116-111 Jack but im on the drink and whatnot and had a mate in until late in the fight when he vomited and effed off sharpish and there was a loads of tit for tat rounds where it was give and take,Groves was as brave as ever, his self belief is admirable,Jack again really impressed me with his boxing savvy,i probably give him too much harshness(is that a word? it is now) because of the 1st round KO to Edwards but he's a very capable boxer

In a close fight like this, its amazing how a fighters appearence affects the scoring,Groves looked haggard,Jack looked slick so thats prob how went with him in the close rounds even though they were both landing

Jack just a bit cleaner, sharper and more hurtful for me though
Really good point on groves' body language, stoney

When groves gets tired, it really shows, his body language gets all woebegone and almost pathetic like he feels sorry for himself.

Groves needs a new trainer. Paddy Fitzpatrick has seen him to 0-3 in title fights and he's not looked good since the early rounds of Froch 1. His advice in the corner with that squeaky voice, just seemed a jumble of instructions that didn't really register with George at all. Compare that to the forceful & to the point instructions Jack was getting from Eddie, and Paddy the hat looked distinctly second rate, compared to Adam Booth he's B level too.
GG need to get himself and inspired cornerman ASAP

Just watched it. I know Groves feels he was robbed but he did not do anywhere near enough to win on points as the away fighter.

For me it was a close fight which I had Jack winning just.

If only Booth was still Groves trainer............

I agree mate. He's deluded if he thinks he was robbed. Any way you chop it up, it was a close fight. No one was robbed.

Had Jack comfortably ahead myself. Gave Groves a few of the mid rounds but he was dropped early and was 1-way traffic down the stretch. Not sure what he's complaining about, would do him better to face up that it was another below par performance and he's capable of better.

I'm not sure, it looks like George has been Cobra'd'.

I had Jack by 3 rounds and thought he just looked the slicker, more 'in control' boxer throughout the fight.

Groves was generally quite poor last night, I agree about the body langauge with him, once tired he loses all his shape and looks like a drunk in a bar, that's when he's wide open for big KO's, if Jack was a bigger puncher I think he could have got rid of Groves in the 8th - 9th round when he looked on wobbly legs. To be fair to Groves he gritted it out and got through the fight.

Groves is really starting to piss me off with his sore losing antics, he stormed out like a spoilt brat, he should have taken the defeat with good grace. I thought the allegedly commentary was very biased towards Groves, as were the studio pundits.

Groves trainer is clearly not upto the job at world level, but Groves seems to want a yes man who he can be kind of the 'star' rather than someone who has other boxers and who might put him in his place a bit.

Honestly not sure where Groves goes from here, 3 world title fights, 2 against Froch at the end of his career and one against a weak champion - if he was as good as he believes he is he'd have a world belt by now. I probably see Groves turning into an Andy Lee type for a bit (pre world belts) where he has to really establish himself again. It really could go either way now with Groves, but for me he HAS to get a new trainer.
