I am surprised that nobody mentioned Patterson getting up over and over against Ingemar Johansson in their first fight. After one of the knockdowns, Floyd started walking toward the wrong corner and clearly did not know
where he was. The fight should have been stopped right there.

Good topic. One that I didn't see mentioned I'll toss out: Dempsey getting knocked out of the ring by Firpo (allegedly cracking his head on a ringside typewriter) and getting shoved back in the ring by the sportswriters. Then coming back to finish Firpo the next round. Also, pretty much any fight Danny "Little Red" Lopez ever won.
But a previous poster made an excellent point about coming back from body punches. You always know how much pain you're in from a good body shot but when you get dropped by a head punch, sometimes you just pop up and keep fighting on autopilot without being fully aware of how hurt you are.
And anyone interested in crazy comebacks might want to check out some of the older bareknuckle Burmese "lethwei" fights. Besides headbutts and groin shots being legal, they used to have a "second chance" rule where if you got knocked out, they'd drag you back to your corner and give you the minute to wake up and keep fighting, sort of like old London Prize Ring Rules. Fights only ended on the second knockout. Not a lot of technique but great heart. You don't see second chances as much anymore but it's still used in some places over there and I have a friend who fought in the Kachin region where they actually had a "third chance." You had to put the guy out three times to win.

Since this topic has returned, it would be remiss of me not to mention Tyson Fury V Deontay Wilder 1.
I still don't know how Fury got up from that jackhammer blow.

Holmes getting up after Shavers detonated a bomb on his whiskers springs to mind.
My 2 favorite heavyweights. Holmes had amazing recuperative skills.

Seeing Castillo/corrales makes me sick. Intentionally spitting out your mouthpiece isn't heroic.

A lot of good ones have been mentioned. glad Ellis-Frazier was pointed out. Amazing that Ellis got up.
Dempsey-Firpo getting knocked out of the ring against Firpo was another good mention. How about Firpo in the same fight? I think he got knocked down 8 times. It didn't look like he would get up after some of them but managed to before finally getting knocked out.
How about Willard against Dempsey?
How about Carnera against Baer? Carnera hurt his ankle early in the fight, kept getting knocked down but kept getting up.

Most heroic? Frazier rising up off the canvas six times vs Foreman. He knew he wasn't going to win, but he kept on getting up.

I think Fury's rise is a bit overrated, he reacted like a guy who was in control of himself and following the ref's count, was even on fairly good legs. That is not like a guy being totally gone basically and being all over the place. Wilder was even shakey from his first knockdown in the rematch

Now if you want a 'how the hell he get up from that?', how about Montiel getting up after Donaire made him spazz and twitch out on the canvas, it was mentioned earlier, but damn it's hard to beat that one
It's often forgotten that Groves actually got up in the Froch rematch too, after being folded up in that weird on top of himself position. Though the ref stopped it anyway

Getting knocked unconscious and continuing to fight a minute later is definitely not good for the brain. But getting knocked down by George Foreman six times and continuing to get up and fight is also not recommended by most neurologists. Lethwei, western boxing, kickboxing, muay Thai, MMA, they're all ultimately bad for the brain and even though I've done some of them, I wouldn't necessarily recommend anyone getting into them professionally. But that doesn't make them any less entertaining to watch.

Ya, now imagine if they gave Frazier a break and made him fight Foreman 2 more times on the same night

Say what you want about his limited skill set, but Primo Carnera showed enormous courage in the brutal beating he took from Max Baer. Baer used arguably the most powerful right-hand punch in heavyweight history to deck the "Ambling Alp" again and again, but Carnera kept getting up for more.

Great shout. Kept getting up knowing he was in for another beatdown. I agree 100%.

If this one was already mentioned, forgive me, but it bears repeating: The semi-conscious Thomas Hearns rising in the third round against Marvelous Marvin Hagler. Thank goodness the fight was immediately stopped. That was pure heart, because all the rest of him was gone.

Can I give Terry Daniels a mention for getting up several times after being bounced off the canvas by an angry Joe Frazier?
I thought it was one of the most brave and courageous performances in heavyweight title history, but also a prophetic example of the rest of Daniels' career and his later severe health problems stemming from this displayed courage.

Barrie Jones getting up umpteen times against Freitas deserves a mention.
Showed his heart and bottle. Definitely belonged in the too brave for his own good category.
