He's already had this sort of poo from Ollie Holt in the Mail on Sunday, who names Mike Tyson as one of his sporting heroes, the effing hypocrite.

Absolute set of pudenda, posh boys who got their jobs through arse kissing and are now trying to talk about a sport they don't watch and know nothing about. Trying to take the moral high ground when half of them work for Rupert Murdoch.
My problem with "sports writers" has always been that they have zero credentials to pass judgement on any sport or any athletes performance. The amount of times I have read these "experts", who probably never even made their school football teams first 11, give the likes of Arsene Wenger and co advice on what they need to do to make their side succesful is impossible to count.
They are sports reporters, they should report on the real stars and their efforts but no, they see themselves as some kind of mighty authority. Just a bunch of wankers

Non boxing folk don't understand the sweet science and the level of skill needed to negate and out wit some one like Klitschko. Nobody is going to call it Hagler Hearns but boxing isn't about bar room brawling.

There was nothing sweet or scientific about dancing about a ring well out of range and firing the odd punch in. Sweet science is making your opponent miss, drawing him in and countering him.

Some of the crap I have seen written on forums by people defending that show on Saturday night just reeks of boxing snobbery where people delude themselves into believeing that they witnessed some impressive display on Saturday because they want to think of themselves as real students of boxing.

My boxing coach has trained 2 individuals that have won versions of world titles, his opinion on the fight was "terrible, it was like watching a pair of wee lassies".......he must not know anything about boxing though eh?

'Journalist' name is on the right mid-way down the page - Steven Howard, who is quite senior in their sport department...
what was his problem?.... was his free hotel not up to scratch? was his free ringside seat one with a slightly obscured view? was the room service substandard?......

yes it was not a great fight. great story...yes, great fight....no. but the game plan worked and fury generally gives good entertainment value. its surely better than the era of big john tate and tony tubbs......... etc etc!!
He wasn`t even there he was at the Davis Cup I think, like most of these Sport writers who are bitching about Fury.

It was a woeful fight, a complete non event, the showboating and buildup were more entertaining than any of the actual 'action' in the ring.

Fury won, but he landed absolutely bugger all, he just landed more than Wlad who did virtually nothing until the last round. I'm not sure whether Wlad's reflexes let him down and he couldn't pull the trigger, or more likely he was just bemused by Tyson's movement and not knowing what he would do next.

The fact that a 39 year old was able to dominate the division until now does attest to the state of the division.

Fury might be the next big thing, but if that win was any indication of the future of the division, then it's going to be pretty painful. Let's be honest, that win by Fury, was just as boring, in fact, more boring than Wlad's defences over the last 10 years.

Fury avoided engaging with Wlad like the plague - as it was the only way his team thought he could win.

I'm happy for team fury, but as a genuine world heavyweight title fight, for the title of best heavyweight in the world - it was utterly dire. You only have to look at the terrible punch stats to see that.

Let's not gloss over how awful it was because 'our guy' won it. If Wlad had won in a similar fashion, he'd have been criticised left right and centre.

well said Jim it was dire, good on Tyson but I couldn't believe how slow Vlad was, the whole fight I kept thinking that a prime lewis / Tyson / holyfield would have demolished both of them possible on the same evening.

it was effing awful though I am made up for Fury, mental as he is I quite like him
I think Wlad just couldn't pull the trigger, he was waiting for Fury to stop moving, and he never did. I think the height and reach also bothered him. Wlad needed to close the gap and let his hands go, but Fury's constant movement stopped him doing so.

Wlad is also 39, he was never the most fleet of foot, but it's not surprising if his reactions weren't that great.

A prime Holyfield would I think have been too quick, nimble and tough.

I don't believe Fury is going to go on to dominate the division, but he did well to execute the gameplan.

That wasn't the best version of Wlad,. but nobody else managed to beat him in the last 10 years.

Lewis always said Vitali was the better fighter of the two, and I agree. Wlad was clinical and effective, but Vitali was a monster, it's a shame his latter career was plagued with injury as I believe that had it not been, he'd have stayed unbeaten for a long time yet. Vitali certainly wasn't scared to let his shots off.
Do you think there's any possibility of Vitali trying to avenge his brothers defeat? Tyson said if he won then Vitali can have a crack if he fancies. Personally I don't see it happening but stranger things have happened I suppose.

Matt Dicksplash would be better advised to think about his own employer's recent behaviour and whose soiled pound notes he's taking.

Tyson is outspoken - we got that without your pontificating thanks so much - but last time I looked he was not hacking into the voicemail of dead teenage girls...just for example.

Funny you say that. I was looking at Vitali in the ring with Wlad after the fight, and he still looked in pretty good shape.

It actually wouldn't be that strange, and as you say, he's still champion emeritus even now I believe.

It's been quite a while since he fought though, so not sure if he would bother.

I disagree.

An article like this should not be published by a British newspaper.

Why?
WHY,,,,,Because James is right , it was a good win for Tyson and a win for Great BrITAIN ,, But a totally lack lustre affair for boxing ,, You had a 6'7" guy who did not want to risk getting hit against a champ who could'nt pull the trigger , the fight was boring and the win was more about Vlad giving his title away rather than Tyson winning it ,,, the only time vlad threw punches was in the last 2 rounds and he actually caught and hut Tyson .. and its true Vlads dominence over the years has been more about the lack of quality opposition , rather than a great champion ,,, he turned people of i know this because i myself have very rarely watched vlad over the years , I just could'nt be bothered tuning in to se a robot with judges on his side , bully guys not at his own level who were handpicked ...

Thing with Tyson though is it does become a new era , , and once him and wilder have got it on the winner will have to face Joshua , because he is gonna have a crack they will keep him winning until his record demands a shot at the title .. Poor Frank Bruno if only he was around today he would hold ALL THE BELTS . ,,, and that sums it up

I was thinking the exact same thing. Vitali was dealing with opposition pretty easily leading up to retirement. I bet he fancies it.

I was actually pretty angry reading that today,he makes some decent points about the fight itself but everything else is tripe

I hate when journos dig at modern day HW's by mentioning Ali.who fair do's was a great champ but id say a good 70% of his fights were plain boring because of him spoling, holding laying on the ropes,i wouldnt say he's overated but his fights are

Hardly SRR or SRL is it?

That "expert" Steve Howard was probably one of those guys who was shocked Mayweather/Pacquiao was a snoozer

Best thing about these hacks is,i bet the ones moaning about Fury being too safety consious are the same ones who said he'd get KO'd swiftly because he's too gung ho

Im not gonna defend the fight itself, when you strip it down it was void of any real action or drama but it was necessary for this particular opponent who had never lost in over a decade,if Fury like Haye was losing round after round then fair enough but how many times have we seen a fighter KO'd and thrown his big shot away by being careless and switching off and we have to listen to them tell us everything was going fine until they got carried away but they'll "learn from it" and "promise it wont happen again"

Billy Conn was a great LHW champ but all he's remembered for is dominating Louis until getting too brave for his own good,i bet he wished he played it safe for the duration then how different boxing history would be

Article is bang on. That fight was an utter travesty between 2 oversized shitebags. The only part i disagreed with was the bit about being worse than Haye-Harrison. It was much worse.

70% is rather over the top, it was really only his career post foreman that was dire. He couldn't work at the same pace he used to any more, and so he held far more. There weren't many boring fights earlier in his career, the first 1/3rd he was like lightning and just took the piss with most people, the next third included a fair few wars and close ones.

there's have been a rematch and Louis would have battered like he did in their rematch anyway. He couldn't have pulled the same trick twice.

He was never the same after the exile, its a pity we never seen the best of him, even in the FOTC he had massive spells where he did nothing and Norton fights, that started well before Foreman

Yeah, I've seen them both myself, but a long time ago, I remember Conn was nowhere near as good. I think the rematch was quite a while after by which time Conn was past his best, though far from old,. I think had Louis lost, and rematch been more or less immediate, and Louis would have come out all business. Of course, we'll never know, but Louis did well in rematches generally.
