Roy Jones Jnr vs. Enzo Maccarinelli - December 12th 2015
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs. Enzo Maccarinelli - December 12th 2015
Always a daft fight for Roy to take, I don't think any of the world champions have Enzo's power.
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs. Enzo Maccarinelli - December 12th 2015
Ouch, brutal knockout. It's the fact that when he gets KO'd it's so often a genuine case of ending up unconscious. There's only so many times you can go through that without long term consequences. Really needs to jack it in. Good win for Enzo all the same, do wonder if it will persuade him to move back up to Cruiser.

Surely both should have retired by now?
Both have been dangerously KO'd

Roy's poor brains must be a pool of slop by now. How many more times must we see him face down unconscious? I hope he retires, although the chance to do so with dignity dissolved at least a decade ago.
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs. Enzo Maccarinelli - December 12th 2015
Just watched it...great finish from Enzo. Even though he was fighting an old shell of a fighter, that was a good showing.
Roy Jones, what can you say? He should have quit years ago and I'm not sure he'll stop even after that devastating knockout.

RJJ on the other hand.....
RJJ was the best ever for 10 years then got KTFO. Good and all time great, are totally different levels even if he his washed up, RJJ will still beat Enzo I reckon.
That's my theory out of the window
U eating your words rexob? I hope so, you are alwYs v forthright in your opinion, hope it's the same story when you are wrong
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs. Enzo Maccarinelli - December 12th 2015
Enzo is a very good offensive boxer. Even after his shocking defeats. In some of those fights he was dishing it out too much and that's where he's come a cropper. Look at his record which is piled up with very early wins, or, KO defeats.
This was never going to be easy cash for Roy. Far from it. Enzo never gave anyone an easy night, the Haye defeat being credit to Haye.

Finally finished watching this card, stunning KO from Maccarinelli but the way Jones body fell to the canvas was pretty sickening,Enzo showing he's still one of the hardest punchers in the game
Roy Jones Jr please retire,i lost sympathy for him a long time ago but him continuing boxing can only hurt the sport

Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs. Enzo Maccarinelli - December 12th 2015
What a fall from grace. And to think RJ was was up there on the same level as Floyd in the '90s as in talent. He was p4p for years. Can you imagine Mayweather in 10 years time fighting and getting KO'd in Ireland or some place.
Why is it boxers always go skint? How can you lose all that money? Tennis players and footballers don't lose theirs, they by the same things with their cash (big houses and flash cars) What do fighters do diffrently with their dough that they a golfer or racing car driver does.

I dont have any sympathy for any sucker who blows their millions, not when im on minimum wage with xmas around the corner,im sure RJJ could have countless other ways to make money,he was a commentator for a while,he'd make a great trainer

Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs. Enzo Maccarinelli - December 12th 2015
That was painful - his brave clueless Russian backers obviously didn't really think about it when they picked a huge puncher like Enzo for old Roy to take on. Really unnecessary and the commentary kept going on about how he got knocked out all those years ago by Tarver, but what about that brutal knockout to lededev?
Credit to the dignified Welsh team there, Gary Lockett looked so downcast after the fight you would have assumed it was his guy who'd been knocked out, instead a very classy ex fighter who recognised what a tragic sight it was to see the great Roy Jones reduced to this.

Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs. Enzo Maccarinelli - December 12th 2015
It was a sad end to a career that's gone on at least 10 years too long. What I don't understand is why RJJ has defected to Russia? Is it political, or does he just owe a load of tax in the US or something?
Black athletes have a notoriously hard time there, I remember reading about an African footballer who played there about 5 years ago and had everything from being pelted with bananas to death threats and had to live in the middle of a city miles away from where his team was based. It just doesn't seem like a particularly appealing place for him to go, is he planning on continuing fighting there?
The presentation of the fight was like a Soviet version of one of those German Sauerland shows, complete with military choir. Far out. Weird. Sad.
Kudos to Enzo both for the performance and his behaviour after the fight, he's a very gracious bloke. I'd like to see him fight Cleverly, or move back up to Cruiser and fight Bellew, I think on his night he could beat either. Or fight Oville again, it was ace to see him with Bunce in the studio, top bloke.

The scary thing is that Enzo didn't even catch him particularly cleanly at any point, but still managed to render him completely unconscious. If he'd have nailed Jones with the same finisher which he landed on Ovill, God only knows what would have happened.handsofstone wrote:Finally finished watching this card, stunning KO from Maccarinelli but the way Jones body fell to the canvas was pretty sickening,Enzo showing he's still one of the hardest punchers in the game

Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs. Enzo Maccarinelli - December 12th 2015
That's the 5th KO of his career now. I thought being starched heavily by Lebedev would have been enough but no, he had to come back and get starched now by Maccarinelli. Its weird to think of McClellan all those years ago taking shots from Benn and almost dying and having to live the rest of his life mostly blind and deaf while Roy went on to have a good career and then take bad punishment and get KO'd multiple times. Jones has to be playing with his health at this stage. Nobody wants to see him end up like McClellan. It's really time for him to stop or to at least stay at a very low level.

Snap! Ive used these exact same words with people .i tell them from 1988-2003 rjj was exactly what mayweather has been all his career.....Eddy wrote:What a fall from grace. ....the seemingly invincible, skilled fighter who had more brains and business acumen than the rest.......jones in 1995-2002 had the "reluctant roy" label from troll writers who said he had hardly lost a round in his career ,he had always been talking of getting out young not wanting to end up like his friend McClellan, and so they accused him being reluctant to take a challenge at heavyweight.....which in retrospect just seems mad kind of like saying pbf is afraid to fight kovolev............jones was the last fighter u expected to see pointlessly carry on like this...the lastone........hes never needed the money ,the hbo jobs been there for him.......he just genuinely like duran loves fighting after all to his reluctant roy critics.
The aura of invicibility rjj had during 93-2003 was as absolute as ive seen next to tyson and pbf
Re: Roy Jones Jnr vs. Enzo Maccarinelli - December 12th 2015
Roy jones is rjj.likecali is ali. Even the lowlife bigots have him as a hero.in russia rjj will be treated like a king on the house just like tyson was post career.he will be mixing with powerful politicians, the chechen puppet regime, rich businessman and having any woman he wants arranged.....and yeah avoiding irs persecutionrevporl wrote:It was a sad end to a career that's gone on at least 10 years too long. If someone had told me in 2000 that rjjnr would still be fighting 15 years later and getting knocked out it would have been stranger to me than if someone said to me right now pbf will still be fighting at 52 in places like france and tokyo and been kayoed 5 times .
Rjj even after he became shot at 35......was still more than most fighters. Tarver was a puzzle he should have avoided after the ruiz fight.the johnson fight he seemed sleepy.......the crazy thing is after those 2 nightmare years 2004-2005 he put together a very good run and looked a million bucks v tito....i really dont know why he was so poor against calzaghe ,perhaps the cut in rd 3 made him stop fighting....these mac and green defeats were the most sad......even the beast lebedev took 12 rounds

I wouldn't necessarily think he looked a million bucks vs Tito - he looked okay, but Tito was inactive, shot and way outsized. It was a sad to see Tito like that.
The 24/7 show is designed to promoted a fight, I think it did the opposite for Jones vs Calzaghe - Jones clearly did not believe he could win and just looked like he wanted to go out, making money and having a laugh..... he spent most of it seemingly play fighting with his fat friend. Jones seemed as shocked as Joe that he floored him in the first round.

Yes, agreed. Tito was way too small to compete, and shot to pieces, it was a safe fight for Roy to look good in. Similarly the Lacy fight, Lacy was totally damaged after Calzaghe.stujones wrote:I wouldn't necessarily think he looked a million bucks vs Tito - he looked okay, but Tito was inactive, shot and way outsized. Roy hasn't really looked good against anything above mediocre fighters since he lost to Johnson. He had results against very ordinary fighters, but every single time he stepped up against a former world class or currently world class opponent, who was in his own weight class or above, he's been totally destroyed. His best result was probably going as long as he did with Lebedev in recent years.
