It's signed, if he doesn't want to fight kovalev he'll need to lose or retire.

Exactly. Even if date and venue are announced, there is still no guarantee, as he can still get injured or "injured".

Of course he's not unproven. I particularly hold his manhandling of Froch in high regard.
