Great idea, Horse.

Of those 5 suggested bouts I've only seen Eubank v Watson 1.Horse wrote:Week 2 suggestions so far:
davie - Henry Cooper vs TBA
FrozenMixedVegtables - Roberto Duran vs Ken Buchanan
jamesmcdonnell - Chris Eubank vs Michael Watson I
Counter-puncher - Howard Winstone vs Vicente Saldivar or Mitsunori Seki
forestbox - Henry Cooper v Joe Bugner
Of those I think I'd go for Eubank vs Watson I, but is it too close in time to the Calzaghe vs Reid fight? Does that matter?
Is it better to jump about in time? Or better to have theme months/fortnights etc where we stick to a certain time period/fighter? Or are both about the same?
Obviously a lot of other suggestions have been made, and we can also choose any of those for the next fight or from any new recommendations as well, but these are the suggestions since week 1's fight was decided.
I reckon a theme might work personally, ie an era for a month or a weight division for a month etcHorse wrote:Week 2 suggestions so far:

So, you'd prefer to watch something else instead?palooka wrote:Of those 5 suggested bouts I've only seen Eubank v Watson 1.
I think Eubank v Watson I is a great idea, I vote for James McDonnell's suggestion.Horse wrote:So, you'd prefer to watch something else instead?palooka wrote:Of those 5 suggested bouts I've only seen Eubank v Watson 1.
No, Horse - I've only watched it on the night, that was 25 years ago. I'm happy to go along with any bout, I like this idea, well playedHorse wrote:So, you'd prefer to watch something else instead?palooka wrote:Of those 5 suggested bouts I've only seen Eubank v Watson 1.
For me, any of those except the Duran vs Buchanan fight.Horse wrote:Week 2 suggestions so far:

Ah, this is where it gets interesting. Looking at flyweights in the 20s, 30s and 40s we had a number of top drawer fighters, who rank very highly on Boxrecs rankings (and no doubt in the annals of boxing history in general). Jackie Patterson, Benny Lynch, Peter Kane, Jackie Brown, Jimmy Wilde, Rinty Monaghan, Terry Allen, Ginger Foran, Jimmy Warnock, Teddy Gardner, Tiny Bostock, Tut Whalley, Paddy Ryan the list goes on and on, with numerous top fighters who fought at flyweight, whose careers over lapped in that period and many fights ocured between them. It's something I've wanted to delve into for some timeFrozenMixedVegtables wrote:
You did chose the Duran- Buchanan fight first, mate.
On reflection I think I would prefer to have chosen Benny Lynch vs Peter Kane. The best flyweight fight ever according to many historians.
I think that sort of thing is an idea for the future.davie wrote:I wondered if we could have one or two weeks where we maybe focused on certain fighters, watched what footage we could, short fight clips, documentaries and whatever could be gathered in terms of newspaper reports to gain an insight into these fighters.
Take the Lynch vs Kane bouts, There's 2m41s of the 1937 KO win for Lynch https://youtu.be/y2iaIqLVTIA
and 1m09s of the 1938 draw https://youtu.be/ogV0CtmCjmM
There's not a lot to get our teeth into and discuss from 1 fight but if we take Benny Lynch, there's those 2 fights, a documentary

and a few other clips and bits of fights

We could do a review of a fighter like that?

I think it is best to keep things simple to begin with.

Top idea horse
I agree was checking to see if this had been suggested, would also chuck in the second bout to. Great end to a top career, despite the losses. What tough bouts.forestbox wrote:Eubank v Thompson 1 be good watch

It will be decided tomorrow or the day after.
thats a good suggestionmagwitch wrote:a good British fight that would divide opinion would be the big fight in a small hall that was Hunter vs. Pickering a few years ago with 3 titles on the line.
That would be a good fight, but I think it is a bit too recent, at least to begin with.magwitch wrote:a good British fight that would divide opinion would be the big fight in a small hall that was Hunter vs. Pickering a few years ago with 3 titles on the line.
Was just looking through Steve Robinson fights and the Duke fight was one I'd considered suggestingstevedoc wrote:duke mckenzie vs dave mcauley was a good fight ,might be worth another look
