I'll give him his due, he is doing everything he should be doing right now and that's stopping the fights before the final bell against opposition he is obviously a class above and I applaud him for doing it.
He has all the potential and ability to become a world champion one day but I do agree with everyone he needs to take a step up in class of opponents now and start making a name for himself on a world scale. I'd love to see him in the UK or America next.
Parker VS Cornish, Whyte, Sexton, Dallas, Sprott or any of the british ranked heavyweights would be a good fight for him or if you look at the ranked heavyweights in America like :Cunningham, Arreola, Chambers, Thompson, Briggs, you can't say he wouldn't beat any of them and it would get him fighting abroad and making a name for himself.

Re: Top Heavyweight prospect Parker stopped Bergman Saturday
My two cents on Parker: I haven't seen enough of him to make a decent assessment. Blowing out over-matched opposition shows potential and nothing else.
imo Parker isn't going abroad until unavoidable.
They are hoping Browne beats Chagaev in March bringing a secondary belt back to Australia.
Parker can then challenge Browne, take his belt, sit on it claiming to be THE heavyweight champ and make money running over more designated opponents.

He has fought better that the Cornish, Whyte, Sexton, Dallas, Sprott's already. Whyte is the only one you mention there that is worth watching. I agree on the American names, though Briggs has not won a worthwhile fight for nearly 10 years.northern wrote:I'll give him his due, he is doing everything he should be doing right now and that's stopping the fights before the final bell against opposition he is obviously a class above and I applaud him for doing it.

He has two more scheduled fights in NZ then he is making the move towards either the US or the UK.Perseus wrote:My two cents on Parker: I haven't seen enough of him to make a decent assessment. Blowing out over-matched opposition shows potential and nothing else.

Yes I did know that. Did you know that sometimes guys who cut a swath through mediocre opposition early in their careers end up being pretty good?
Parkers resume isn't great, but he does have a former champion and title challenger on there. I agree he needs to step it up, and I still think its mildly retarted to want prospects kept out of the light til they absolutely prove themselves.
Parker has looked good so far. Really good, actually. We'll see if he carries it over against better competition. Of course we wouldn't even be following his career had he not gotten some hype early so....

So you've never seen him fight, but make comments about his technique and apparently still claim that he is white.RandomUsername wrote:First, I have not and will not watch any of the mismatches that Parker has participated in.
Second, Some fighters have great technique, Roy Jones JR is the prime example, we can also mention Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather, Mike Tyson, Manny Pacquiao and Chris Byrd. While yes I haven't seen any of Parkers fights I can't be really sure about his technical ability but the results of his fights don't suggest that his technique is anything special. Technique does exist in boxing you know? And since he isn't the best or the biggest HW out there it's very hard to predict that he'll go very far.
Thrid, " He is of predominantly Samoan descent, but also has little English and German ancestry. Parker's Samoan ancestry roots go back to Faleula village on the main island of Upolu in Samoa where his mother hails from.[6] He was raised in Māngere and belongs to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." so a partially White boy who practices the Christian religion instead of the native Samoan one and chooses to go by a European sounding name "Joseph Parker" instead of Samoan sounding one Lupesoliai La'auli.
Edit Forth, you're just some silly little troll.
Terrible stuff mate, truly terrible.

Parker now rated #1 contender with WBO and his trainer Barry said today there's a fight lined up with a top #5 ranked boxer in July. Also his next opponent in April is said to be a step up as well. Parker's promoters are working to expose him to the UK market. Pretty sure I heard Barry say in an interview today that they want to fight Joshua but Joshua's camp turned it down. Would that explain the #1 rank with WBO?

True Whyte is the only one I mentioned among the British names who would help him move up the rankings and the others are just to really give him a warm up to a foreign boxing scene and test the waters a little so to speak.Lennox wrote:He has fought better that the Cornish, Whyte, Sexton, Dallas, Sprott's already. That said I can say the same about Briggs to be completely honest, he's just a good name to add to Parkers record and get off to a good start in America.
Personally I'd rather see him go the American route to a world title over the European route any time, it's much better for him as a boxer and it would be a much better test for him overall.

As far as I know Whyte is injured for a couple of months, perhaps Hughie Fury would be a good opponend, it sounds to me like a close match, I expect Parker to win, but not easely.northern wrote:True Whyte is the only one I mentioned among the British names who would help him move up the rankings and the others are just to really give him a warm up to a foreign boxing scene and test the waters a little so to speak.Lennox wrote:He has fought better that the Cornish, Whyte, Sexton, Dallas, Sprott's already.
