When this was 1st announced I thought Khan would be lucky to last 1 round and wasnt overly interested in watching it. But as the fight is getting closer I'm staring to believe khan could maybe go the 12 and really looking forward to it and would love to see Khan bring the belt back to the UK even though I think its highly unlikely. But what ever the outcome of this fight and whoever has the belt I just hope the belt holder actually fights for the middleweight tittle at middleweight next

It's a tough fight for Canelo I think. Khan is going to be RUNNING all night and Canelo just isn't fast enough to catch him. He doesn't really counter punch either and the times Khan got caught with punches and hurt were usually when he was throwing. The way to catch Khan is to counter punch as he throws his fast flurries and I don't think Canelo does that. Given Khans speed and his running tactics, I think he makes it to the end. Whether or not he gets the decision is another thing entirely.
You think Alvarez isn't really a counter puncher? I dunno....I think some of his best work is his counter punching!

Who are you picking Canelo v Khan?

I watched that 24/7 earlier and I thought that Khan looked in awful shape. No muscle gain, just less conditioned and fat. It is not a body beautiful show and Khan is not a shredded fighter like a Berto or Bradley but this looks like it would dull his reflexes and speed, potentially.

Heavies can carry a bit and we do not mind at all, look at Fury as an example. But the lighter weight guys need to be better conditioned and I think this looks more of a mistake now when one looks at his physical shape.

There's no doubt speed gives Alvarez problems, Mayweather,Lara and Trout all beat him IMO its just the size issue which trumps Khan for,he may start well avoiding Canelo's heavy punches but I doubt he'll be able to pick up rounds because he'll be too concentrated on slipping punches to get his own shots off,he might throw the odd sharp counter but Saul will just brush them off

Alvarez is a slow started but I feel Amir's reputation of being chinny and the pressure on Canelo to do a job on a much smaller guy will make him get to work straight away and I fancy this to be over and done with before the halfway mark

All the best to Khan all the same I'll be rooting for him,his balls deserve it and Canelo's choice of MW opponent deserves it

Anyone planning on doing an all-nighter? I rarely do them these days as they properly affect me for about a week afterwards, but I reckon I'll stay up for this one :bag:

I keep on hearing people say that Khan's speed will take him to a points victory, so I went to the bookies to see what odds I could get on a Canelo win by KO. The odds are 8/15 for Canelo to win by knockout. They are expecting Khan to be knocked out.

I like Khan, but I just can't make a case for him here. He isnot as good as Mayweather and won't be able to avoid Canelo's shots all night, and when he gets hit, it will be all over, although I wouldn't be suprised to see him get up as he is as brave as they come.

He caught Cotto with plenty of counterpunches. Cotto is a better all round fighter than Khan.

Yes, think I will be.

First one in a while.

I think the fight will be exciting. Khan fights are usually pretty good, win or lose.

Been living under a rock recently but are Sky picking this up or is it being broadcast this side of the Atlantic? Noticed on the Boxrec schedule that no British broadcaster are listed to show the fight.

When did a UK fighter last move up two weights for a world title shot? (Though you could say a weight and a half as it's slightly over light middle)?

Eubank v Thompson certainly produced memorable and unexpected results. Eubank jolting the slower Thompson - who'd never tasted such sudden, accurate and snappy shots before - many times before getting dragged into some of the most brutal and exhausting exchanges seen over here. Indeed, one of the best fights ever staged in this country. Who knows what will happen with such an unusual matchup.

Anyway, I digress. I keep getting visions of Herbie Hide v Riddick Bowe. Hide dancing rings around the bigger man, landing at will, looking brilliant - then when the fight settles and the nervous energy burns out, getting dropped by even the glancing blows by the bigger and much heavier man - em route to an absolute mauling.

I think the latter more likely, as Khan is definitely nearer the Hide end of the scale, than the Eubank end, when I comes to durability. Eubank also had far better inside fighting skills than Khan.

I briefly last night thought Khan had a chance, but I think he's going to get beaten down. Cotto was tougher and more skilled, if not as fast Khan, and he took a one sided beating. Khan will maybe do better the 1st 4 rounds, but once he gets tagged clean, it's likely he will unravel very quickly. Khan can't avoid getting tagged forever, and whilst Canelo isn't a KO artist, he hits hard with every shot.

True, Khan's chin reminds me of Hide's.

As you said on a different thread, once Khan takes a big shot it all goes badly. Never seems to pull himself together properly. At worse, gets blown out (Prescott, Garcia - bad omens!)

He struggled to get back into the Diaz fight, a blown up old lightweight. He turned his back on Maidana when getting beaten up late, probably should have been stopped for doing that or docked a point.

I do have a wild fantasy that Khan beats Alvarez, Brook beats Garcia and the two get together for a massive British rivalry that sells here and in America.

I'm not sure Canelo has the one punch power to KO Khan, more that the Mexican could stop Khan by catching him with a big shot and then overwhelming him. As many posters have said previously, once Khan gets buzzed, he loses his mind a bit and panics. The fight against Garcia is a perfect example. Rather than get on his bike and stay on it, he kept wanting to trade.

If Khan can stay at distance for first 2:30 of each round, pot-shotting Canelo and getting out of range quickly, there's no reason why he can't win this. But I just can't see Khan being that disciplined for 12 rounds. Would love him to win it but you suspect Alvarez will have done his homework on cutting off the ring and Khan's escape routes.

Yeah this fight will truly be a test of Khan's temperament.

Physically you'd think it's possible he could do it, given the slowness of Alvarez's feet, how upright the Mexican is.

But he'd have to do a Hopkins-Trinidad caliber performance, build a lead without wasting energy, prevent Alvarez from ever setting his feet, not overreacting or panicking if he takes one or two hurtful shots, concentrating all the way. Can Khan do it, both physically and mentally?

Alvarez is extremely dangerous if you stand in front of him. Khan is crazy if he does that. Have to think Alvarez cannot be that good, if he insists on fighting Lara above 154 and Golovkin several pounds inside 160. If you have to use weight stipulations like this it probably means you're a bit of a creation, who uses popularity to try and win fights in the negotiating stages.

Maybe Khan feels he's the man to expose him. Good luck to him.

Quite possibly. Actually I might not stay up for it after all, getting tired just thinking about it.
