1. Keep his chin protected.
2. Outwork Canelo.
3. Win on points.

Simple really.

Not sure who's old enough to remember the build up to Hagler Leonard but Sugar Ray was given no chance in that bout.

Speedy Welterweight against big punching Middleweight champion.

Lighter weight fighter considered less than stellar in the chin area.

OK, none of that is relevant to this fight but I just :D to mention it anyway

But in the unlikely event that on May 8th the result says Khan W12 Alvarez, does anyone seriously think we'll have seen anything other than a dull fight? That was my earlier point.

The only purpose this match serves is for the people involved to get well paid. There is nothing there whatsoever for the fan to get excited about IMO.
Khan jumping up 2 weight divisions to fight the WBC middleweight champion is nothing to get excited about???

I guess you'd rather watch Brook vs Bieber, or Bizier or whatever he's called :KO:
As stated earlier, Brook v Khan was the fight I was hoping to see. 2 fighters from the same division.

I've no desire to see Khan in a match where he has to run for his life to have any realistic chance of victory. But hey if that's what gets your juices flowing, knock yourself out as they say.

I think Amir will put up a good show until he gets caught, around the 4th or 5th round, Mayweather with his speed gave Canelo too much to handle though Floyd is a far better boxer and hits harder than Khan. Amir will earn a lot of dough, have the rest of the year off then start the hype for a Brook bout.

Khan could win .

Post by coneye »

Kham could win .. Yep been thinking about this one for a few days , One thing that has seemed obvious , is we all know Khan has been inactive , reasons unknown , just blamed on him chasing Floyd for a big money fight ,, but what weight was never discussed , it did'nt get that far .

Then the fact that the other big money fight and realisticly one of the easier ways to a title , BROOKS has never been entertained , basicly just a flat out NO with many excuses surrounding it .. I'm thinking that they know something that we don't , and thats SIZE i think Khan has grew and beefed up and will have trouble making even welterweight ,, Now if he has and retained his speed , Canelo could be in for a long night .

I know everyone says Khan is chinny , but me i'm not so sure , i look at Khan and his skinny neck in the past and i see a guy who's fighting too light starve yourself and you will get knocked out , especielly if you have a natural tendency to mix it , which he does .. I think with Virgil he's been allowed to grow , and learnt a bit to restrain himself .. which will be all Good for Khan .

Canello on the other hand well i don't subscribe to , the beast theory , i think he's been lucky in a couple ,, picked his mark in a couple of others and shown a cowardly streak with this catchweight bullshit with GGG , AFTER ALL HE'S THE MAN IF HE TELLS oSCAR THATS THE FIGHT I WANT , THATS THE FIGHT HE WILL GET , but he won't tewll Oscar that because he obviously does'nt back himself .. then when you look at his dismal performance , no SHOCKING performance against Mayweather , he's not the beast he's made out to be ..

Yep i think Khan may suprise him and win easy , , Ther , now i've done it , I've offially made a prediction , that means i've put the death knockers on Khan , so you lot should now go back Canelo :TU:

I hope he does win but if it goes to the cards there's no way he'll get the nod. It is an audacious move and if he's been training toward this bout then he should do better than most people expect.

If Khan couldn't make WW i'm sure Brook would have fought him at 155 or whatever weight he wanted. Khan-Brook will NEVER happen now because when Khan losses he'll still be asking for 80/20 or 70/30 but Brook wont agree to that considering Khan will more then likely be coming off of a KO loss.

I hope Khan hasn't ruined his career by going up in weight because not many boxers have gone up in weight and went back down successfully.

I've decided to throw my chips in with Khan on this one today.
The sensible opinion is obviously that Canelo will be too big and too strong and that Khan won't be able to box and move all night.
I dunno why, I think Khan is reaching for something improbable and I hope he achieves it.
He does have a huge frame, it isn't impossible to imagine Khan bulking up, retaining his speed and actually being able to hurt Alvarez.

For those that think Khan will win, is it because you think Khan is truly world class/elite or do you think Khan is good and canelo is vastly overrated?

Mayweather has a great chin too. Moseley hit him with a thunderbolt and he recovered in 20 seconds from a shot that would have put many others over.

There was nothing wrong with leonards chin. He was tough as old boots, smart, great technically and could definitely punch. Absolutely eff all in common with khan other than speed.

Leonard had been out for a while, had been decked in his previous fight & was expected to get stopped - by many 'experts' by the much bigger Hagler.

So there you go. More things in common. Thank you & good night

I just dont see Khan being the boxing specialist that some people are making him out to be. Fast hands yes but he he doesnt have even half of Mayweathers boxing brain or ability therefore Mayweathers performance against Canelo is not any sort of 'Blueprint' for him to work from.

Cotto has more ring craft than Khan, probably stronger all round and also a harder hitter. I know boxing isnt as simple as this but if Cotto came up short against Canelo then i just cant see for the life of me Khan lasting the 12 rounds.

Glass chin smashed within 8 rounds

Hello James.

Not sure how old you are but in the build up to the Leonard Hagler fight, Sugar Ray's chin was a big question mark. He'd fought only once in five years - and had got knocked down by an average fighter (who'd probably be a WBA champ nowadays :D ) & was almost 31 (and in those days 30 was veteran). Since winning the title Hagler had only been the distance once - against Duran, who had beaten Leonard. He was expected to win whenever he felt like it by a lot of people in the game.

Leonard played up on this & let Hagler get over confident. I've watched this fight probably over 50 times. I've always been a HUGE Leonard fan.

Before the bout Hagler was the bigger fighter with the better KO record & was expected to stop the smaller, faster fighter whose chin had come into question.

Change the names Hagler & Leonard with Canelo & Khan and you have the same scenario.

I'm 45, I remember this fight all too well. The fact is, Leonard's chin was never considered weak, certainly nowhere near the extent that Khan's was.

You're stretching very hard to make comparisons between the two fights, and between Khan and Leonard, but the fact is, Leonard isn't a good comparison, neither Is canelo.

Yes, people expected Hagler to win, almost everyone, but not because Leonard was chinny, but because hagler was an ATG, Leonard was a WW moving up, and had been out for 4 years following retirement.

I kinda hope more than "believe" that Khan can win; most of that is based purely on wishful thinking & a sort of knee-jerk irascibility where Alvarez is concerned. However, having given the matter a bit more thought, I've managed to identify my reasons (listed in no particular order):-

1/ Khan's audacity. What a loon. Good on him. So ridiculous a challenge it makes me smile that someone's willing to gamble like this in today's landscape (he could fight loads of guys for less risk--& admittedly, less cash).

2/ Alvarez is so pedestrian it's untrue. Big & strong & superficially technically solid, but apart from that, there's very little there to enjoy if you're as picky as me.

3/ Avlarez has so many things stacked in his favour in almost every fight, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Loses 10 rounds vs Mayweather? One judge scores it a draw. Loses four/five rounds against Cotto (imo)? 119-109 it is, then. Not to get on the subject of his enormous weight-draining & how that practice gets my nadgers in a twist, personally. Plus, being fed the likes of Matty Hatton & Josesito Lopez stuck in my craw, diagonally.

4) (Insert crass anti-Ginger joke here)

5) (Insert crass anti-Ginger joke here)

6) (Insert crass anti-Ginger joke here)

I think that just about covers it.

IU actually said in the original comparison that neither of the fighters in this bout can compare to Leonard & Hagler. And I don't think I'm stretching very hard at all. You can think that - and keep commenting - but I'm still going to think that there are comparisons.

Smaller, quicker, Welterweight fighter up against a bigger, stronger Middleweight champ who is expected to stop him.

I was hoping Leonard could win then, even though I was a fan of both, and I'm hoping Khan will win now, even though I'm a fan of both.

No one has said that Leonards chin is as weak as Khans - only you, mate. But there were plenty of people who thought his resistance had gone & Hagler could stop him any time he wanted. I remember this well. In those days people still talked about boxing in the pubs.

There's plenty in this fight that reminds me of that fight. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean that I don't.

All the best.

I'd love to see Khan drop him to the body like a sack of spuds, kinda Maidana esque. He needs something like that to happen early to get a bit of respect for his power.

Canelo is not the murderous puncher some would have you believe, though i don't doubt he has enough to put Khan on queer street. I can't wait to see the ring size for this one either, think that is going to play an absolutely massive part in this fight, my guess is when we end up in a teeny tiny thing and Canelo fights in Margarito mode.
