mate, you dont know what your talking about, seriously :bag:
What is the truth? I remember when Ryan got done everybody thought his gang was going to get revenge, and I never heard a peep after that.
Ryans gang never really had great backing from the lads up north as they were pocketing so much of the cash they were getting off dealers, armed robbers and debt collectors. his gang consisted of afew gobshites like his retarded bro ffs, cant believe they got away with it 4 so long. INLA would be alot more prominent recently. things are different nowadays, youngfellas aint afraid of some part time paramilitary group when money and steel is so easy to come by. :bag:

I've read it was targeted. The reason being that one of the shooters apparantly was shouting as shoppers and people in the venue generally to get out of the way so they wern't hit.
Of course it was targeted. Look at who the victims were. Also, the garda investigation for killing an innocent is completely different to the investigation for one gang member taking out another.
Yeah I was also just trying to say that it seemed like their was some kind of moral compass going on their ironically if that's true.

That's what I was getting at - how has macklins dodged criticism over his association with big time criminals? Is it fair to say they wouldn't be involved in boxing at this level if not for macklin? If so then it's pretty shocking on macklins part. Imagine a stray bullet had hit that little kid for example. Or if Jamie Moore had been killed. Why on earth did broadcasters get involved with mgm if the guys behind it are big time gangsters? I imagine this whole thing today has made absolutely massive headlines in ireland
I'm guessing there's a lot of writers (guys on here who are well known even) that wouldnt want to touch that story with a barge pole because they quite understandly wouldnt want a bullet between the eyes possibly.

I suppose that's understandable but it's very disappointing that macklin wasn't pulled up on this.

The jig is definitely up now though.

Christ.. Just read that link, and what the hell is tiger-kidnapping?? Is this where they got the idea for kidnapping Tysons tiger in The Hangover??!!!

Drug dealing, tiger kidnappings, armed robberies, punishment shootings, assaults and stealing huge amounts of drugs and cash from other gangs are what they have specialised in, but they have also been suspected of involvement in at least six other murders over the past decade.

I agree. It is totally understandable to me though. If I was a journalist, I wouldn't wan't to probably write a story that could very well get me killed! It reminds me actually of that female Irish journalist (whose name i can't recall) who was killed in the 90's was it for reporting on organised crime. There was a film made on her and everything.

Yeah, like has been said already, I love the way the Irish Press give the gangsters a nick-name so that they can't be sued for naming names and then don't hold back with their theories! "Tiger-Kidnaper" is a cracking example.

I love the Brendan Glesson film, The General. Cahill's "The General" moniker came from the press' nickname for him. If you haven't seen it, buy it, it's also got Jon Voight in.

Have any of the journalists involved been threatened over it?

Veronica Guerin. After her death a huge amount was done to crack down on the gangland scene but it seems to be after going full circle with new kids on the block.

Exactly thanks for agreeing, the irish press are a bunch of c0cksuckers. Only a pity that paul cokehead williams or nicola tallentless werent in the firing line :bag:
Paul Williams (most notably) and Nicola Tallant are the best known Irish crime reporters since Veronica Guerin. As can be seen in this post not everybody appreciates what they do.

Anybody think mgm can make it through this? Can't see them getting any dates. What promoter would risk a shooting at an event?

Fair bit out there from the Irish press re Macklin hanging around with these people and that was prior to mgm being set up. Think Macklin has to take responsibility for bringing these people well into boxing over here (think how many fighters mgm now manage). Boxers impressed by the great facilities drug money buys, promoters and media people happy to turn a blind eye when the £ comes in.

You dance with the devil......
