I pick the Russian Spetsnaz-Vityaz man by quick KO.

Difficult for me to choose a winner. On one hand we've all seen this situation all too many times before. Where a young destroyer meets an aged veteran and typically lives up to the part in making short work of his older counterpart. Then again, Wilder has shown some noticeable flaws in some of his more recent fights against lesser opponents. And if we're honest, Alexander Povetkin doesn't look like he's lost a step at age 36. Its a tough call. I respect Wilder and his people for opting to take the fight on Povetkin's home turf. As the defending champion he probably could have forced the issue of fighting at home in the states but didn't. Then again I don't know what negotiations looked like behind closed doors, but nevertheless... Wilder is taking the necessary steps to make a real name for himself while Povetkin is looking for revival to cap off what is already a respectable career.

Yep. Molina had him in trouble at one point; Duhaupas took the fight on short notice and with an injury and lasted through 12; and Szpilka made a good fight of it up until the KO. Povetkin is way better than they are and has fought much better opponents than Wilder and at age 36 he seems to be much improved and has looked great in his recent fights.

Povetkin has fought many top guys and he only lost once and that was to Wlad, and even tho I am a big fan of his Wlad was hanging on like an octopus in that fight, and Povetkin seems to have much improved since then too, winning all four subsequent encounters against very tough oponents by KO.

Agreed. I'm not sold on the idea that he's "improved" per say, but I'll at least concur that he hasn't lost a step or diminished in any way. But he's far more proven than any of Wilder's previous opponents as well as Wilder himself. Deontay has the edge in both size and age, which counts for a lot however. We'll see what happens come May 21st, but I'm not making any solid predictions either way.

They are the same weight. Wilder is of course taller and six years younger. No question that Wilder hits very hard but aside from that he seems to be very vulnerable if not incompetant.

The books have the fight almost even with a very slight edge to Wilder. Me, I wouldn't be surprised to see Povetkin do him like he did Mike Perez.

True. Wilder's defense is terrible and his chin still untested. Bad combination going in against a seasoned precisition hitter and one who can afford to take a big shot to land one.

It looked like Molina was about to KO him and then it seemed to me that Molina deliberately backed off, or that's the impression I got at the time. Interesting how they scoured the internet to remove the photos of Wilder on the deck in his fight with Harold Sconiers who had lost 15 of his previous 18. They don't want to damage their marketing of him. I saved it, though....

:OhYes:

The Malik Scott fight looked like a dive to me as well. Scott is actually an underrated boxer and while he doesn't possess the type of power to really be a KO threat to anybody, there a lot of guys out there who he could have schooled.

It sure did. It looked like Haye-Harrison the second.

Usually these bookies have usurious odds spreads, like 1-100 for the favorite and only 25-1 for the underdog - how can they lose with crap like that? But these odds look good to me.

Why won't he step into the ring??? Would you get into the ring to make millions of dollars for one night's work??? If he loses the fight do you think he's going to retire from Boxing??? It's a damned boxing match not WWIII that he has to win. If he doesn't get the judges' verdict he'll be back. He'll make a lot of money in the next 5 or 6 years. Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis, Vitali Klitschko, and Wladimir Klitschko lost fights. Joe Walcott lost a couple dozen or so. So it's not mandatory that you win every time out.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be true. I was looking forward to this. Not holding my breath though.

Povetkin's promoter should never have agreed to a shady US testing agency.

Lol, I agree Povetkin is very very gentle to Wilder, Wilder absolutely doesn't deserve anything, but Povetkin is so gentle polite, he gives it anyway.
Nevertheless, if Povetkin used Mildronate then he's simply cheating since 1-1-2016.

I heard 17% of the Russian Athletes got caught for this stuff, so appearantly it's used very often by Russians.
Maria Sharapova used it for over 10 years she said herself.

Russians in general, use PEDs very often. 15 of 33 russian medalists from Olympia 2014 were drugged, along with many more non-medalists. The whole female hockey team been on PEDs too.
