Re: WHO WINS? Amir Khan vs. Kell Brook

Khan is great , but I think brook finds him and KO's him
UFC has nothing to do with it. You think Mcgregor's opponents are picking up an equal payday when they fight him?MrJasonM wrote:This is why boxing is such an infuriating sport, and why people turn to UFC.
Make it 50-50 and lets get on with it!
There's less money on offer for individual fights, so they can't afford to prat around for 6 months talking shite about one another.MrJasonM wrote:It just feels, admittedly from an outside view looking in, that fighters cant duck as much or hide behind purse splits in UFC.
No, but they probably make more than they would fighting anybody else.dirk2686 wrote:UFC has nothing to do with it. You think Mcgregor's opponents are picking up an equal payday when they fight him?MrJasonM wrote:This is why boxing is such an infuriating sport, and why people turn to UFC.

If you watch MMA closely enough you will find out that the guys that have leverage use it.MrJasonM wrote:It just feels, admittedly from an outside view looking in, that fighters cant duck as much or hide behind purse splits in UFC.
and Brook will probably make more than he would fighting anybody else has if he were to take 30% of the Khan fight...jamesmcdonnell wrote:No, but they probably make more than they would fighting anybody else.dirk2686 wrote:UFC has nothing to do with it. And unless Floyd comes out of retirement and is desperate to fight Brook, Khan is Brook's money fight. He'll make a lot more with a 60/40 split in a stadium against Khan than going back to Sheffield Arena for fights against the likes of Dan and Bizier.jamesmcdonnell wrote:No, but they probably make more than they would fighting anybody else.dirk2686 wrote:UFC has nothing to do with it. Quite possibly, but in boxing because the paydays are so big for major showdowns, fighters spend far too long jostling for the best deal.wesshaw1985 wrote:and Brook will probably make more than he would fighting anybody else has if he were to take 30% of the Khan fight...jamesmcdonnell wrote:No, but they probably make more than they would fighting anybody else.dirk2686 wrote:

apologies Jimmy, I'm failing to understand what the point you are trying to make is regarding the Brook/Khan fight?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Quite possibly, but in boxing because the paydays are so big for major showdowns, fighters spend far too long jostling for the best deal.wesshaw1985 wrote:and Brook will probably make more than he would fighting anybody else has if he were to take 30% of the Khan fight...jamesmcdonnell wrote:

In UFC, the overall cards tend to be stacked, and they are rarely relying on a single person to carry the event (McGregor is something of an exception here due to his fan base) - and so if fighters turn their noses up at opportunities, then the event just goes ahead anyway without them. UFC's model is much more about the overall package. You've generally got 10 fights of which at least 70% are very competitive, it's a good value product.
If Khan and brook do fight, the undercard will almost certainly be garbage, because there's so little money left after the fighters have their demands met, and the promoter's, network and distribution platform have taken their share.
You can go back and forward with that argument all day.dirk2686 wrote: And unless Floyd comes out of retirement and is desperate to fight Brook, Khan is Brook's money fight. It's patently not a fifty fifty fight though. Khan has the profile which makes this the fight it is.davie wrote:You can go back and forward with that argument all day.dirk2686 wrote: And unless Floyd comes out of retirement and is desperate to fight Brook, Khan is Brook's money fight. This will be the best payday either man can get, end of.
It's a meaningless argument throwing it at one fighter (as Khan is trying to do)
My point is this, Brook v Khan is a fight that should happen, but because of the nature of boxing, and the fact fighters are always looking to squeeze as much money out of the event as possible, we have to endure months and months of horseshit before we actually get a fight, if indeed we do ever get one, it's one of the things that makes me like UFC more, is that you don't have to wade through so much crap, more often than not, the very big fights do happen, and you don't get years of posturing between two big names.wesshaw1985 wrote:apologies Jimmy, I'm failing to understand what the point you are trying to make is regarding the Brook/Khan fight?jamesmcdonnell wrote:Quite possibly, but in boxing because the paydays are so big for major showdowns, fighters spend far too long jostling for the best deal.wesshaw1985 wrote: and Brook will probably make more than he would fighting anybody else has if he were to take 30% of the Khan fight...

Lesnar v Fedor would have been the biggest MMA fight of all time. As much chance of that happening as Lewis Bowe sadly. And with the rise in complaints from people within UFC about how much fighters are paid it's only a matter of time before we see factions develop and fights going the same way as boxing.jamesmcdonnell wrote:My point is this, Brook v Khan is a fight that should happen, but because of the nature of boxing, and the fact fighters are always looking to squeeze as much money out of the event as possible, we have to endure months and months of horseshit before we actually get a fight, if indeed we do ever get one, it's one of the things that makes me like UFC more, is that you don't have to wade through so much crap, more often than not, the very big fights do happen, and you don't get years of posturing between two big names.
with the rise of Conor McGregor the tide is turning Jimbo.jamesmcdonnell wrote:My point is this, Brook v Khan is a fight that should happen, but because of the nature of boxing, and the fact fighters are always looking to squeeze as much money out of the event as possible, we have to endure months and months of horseshit before we actually get a fight, if indeed we do ever get one, it's one of the things that makes me like UFC more, is that you don't have to wade through so much crap, more often than not, the very big fights do happen, and you don't get years of posturing between two big names.wesshaw1985 wrote:apologies Jimmy, I'm failing to understand what the point you are trying to make is regarding the Brook/Khan fight?jamesmcdonnell wrote:

GGG is bigger than Khan.dirk2686 wrote:It's patently not a fifty fifty fight though. True, but he's also a bit of a laughing stock on social media. And Brook has title.dirk2686 wrote:khan is the bigger name therefore khan gets the bigger share. it's that simple.
Khans 1.82million followers on Twitter don't seem to mind...boxingknockout wrote:True, but he's also a bit of a laughing stock on social media. And Brook has title.dirk2686 wrote:khan is the bigger name therefore khan gets the bigger share. it's that simple.
Amir is the meme king of boxing however
