He was 7-0 as pro boxer, and was 6-2 as pro MMA fighter, with most of those 8 fights being in UFC and Bellator. The man achieved more than 99.9% of fighters will ever achieve.

It appears he was a rock hard street fighter in the Bahamas.

But a poor athlete/pro fighter. Didn't he get stopped by the first punch in his MMA debut? And more recently there was that astonishingly poor fight with the dada 9000 guy. He was 7-0 as a boxer, in Australia. Perhaps his highest and lowest point as a boxer came vs George Tilyard. He rallied to score a thrilling KO after almost being stopped himself. Showing his limitations technically but also his bravery.

There was something slightly tragic about Kimbo's last fight even though he got the stoppage in the end. He could barely speak afterwards. I was hoping he would call it a day then but low and behold he had another fight scheduled in London for next month.

Whatever the issue with his heart and what caused it, it seems it just couldn't keep up.

It does beg the question, how in god's name was he passed fit to fight, given that he had congestive heart problems, that's not something you develop overnight.

Dana White had the same opinion of him until he spent time with him. He said he would never let him in the UFC unless he earn't it. He joined the Ultimate Fighter in 2009 ( def by Big Country, who won it). Dana White said he'd never met a more humble family man in his life, totally opposite to the persona that was portrayed. He was really just a family man, who live at home with all of his kids, who back in 2009, were all of school age, and he made it clear he fought only to get them through college.

He maybe got exposed in the end, and fought for the highest bidder. The roids? Get your head out of the sand, it's rife in the fight game, especially in the lower MMA orgs such as Bellator.

Well you make some good points. But just because PEDs are rife doesn't make it ok.

And I do feel physically a bit ill watching him brutalise no hopers in bareknuckle street stuff. It's dangerous, nasty and illegal. He can't have made much money from it, certainly not nearly enough to put on kid through college. That just stinks of PR bullsh1t. Like someone like Floyd Mayweather claiming his opponent is 'trying to take good out of my keeyids mouths'.

He could've worked honestly for it rather than beat up some guy who's never had a fight for chump change.

You need a certain level of athleticism for combat sports that Kimbo didn't have.

Seems he was more of a sideshow attraction than genuine fighter. Might have been fun seeing him in there with someone like Bob Sapp, if Kimbo had started significantly earlier with professional fighting.

His boxing match with Tilyard is fun, when he rallies from the brink to win in two. He didn't box again after that.

The one great thing about his YouTube exhibited fights. He couldn't mythologise himself, as so many people who have competed in unlicensed or bare knuckle fights, have done. Lenny McLean claiming he was undefeated in hundreds of fights, the pre MMA records of BJJ / Vale Tudo experts like Maro Ruas. Like lying about their record, making up victories, the reckless rumours and myths that come out, and so on. At least there's evidence, and it cannot be dressed up. We saw the chunky policeman outlast him and floor him for two counts of 30. We saw him wavering, barely able to stand after a couple of minutes of grappling

He's been in more fixed fights than anyone else I've seen. His pro boxing career is a complete fix and joke. The guys he fought in back yards were atrocious. He was smashed by Sean Gannon. His fight with Ken Shamrock was fake. He made money and became famous but it was by fraud, IMO.

Does make you wonder if he'd had heart problems for years, his stamina really was awful. Even for an average guy it was poor.

First time I seen Kimbo, I thought it was weird how he and his opponent would get into a street fight without any verbal argument at the start or no touch gloves. It was straight take it to the turf and scrap it out.
