Spot on Mr mcdonnell. Haye was a proper fighter back in the day. Was reasonably fast tracked at cruiser, stepped in to Mormecks backyard for the undisputed championship then hoodwinked Enzo and Fwanky in to the big 'unification' in which he ruined Enzo, who never fully recovered.

His early days at heavy were pretty good too. Sure, the Valuev fight was boring but again, lions den, odds against him etc, got the win. Ruiz gets slated now but I remember at the time, plenty were impressed with how he dealt with him. Ruiz came to fight that night, strangely.

Wlad was a disappointment, and I bet he looks back on that night with regret. Since then, he's been a major letdown.

He looks heavy now, sure there's the big biceps and abs but there's unwanted flesh there too. I don't think he wants it anymore and the comeback is all about the divorce. Still, even not really wanting it, he can still knock the likes of Bellew out no problem.

The ruiz win was pretty impressive, I think I was there for that one too, and the Monte Barret fight, as well as the Thompson fight, the Mock fight, and Fragomeni, - I think I've actually been to see Haye live more than any other fighter I can think of. Saw quite a lot of Froch's early career as I was reporting then, but not as many as I did Haye, probably mainly because they were mostly in London.

Christ, Haye's still only had 30 fights! Was quite shocked to see that!

I'm a life long boxing fan and it's the only sport I watch. I went to the Haye-DeMori, I knew it was a total mismatch. I knew the undercard was gash, but I thought it would be a great event and it was. Sometimes the event is better than the sum of its parts.

I've never believed Keith went. He's a fully grown man from Darlington. No reason to go at all. I think he said it drunk and off his head on codeine and had stuck to it.

You'd have probably felt more entertained watching the pre fight, then switch over to watch a recording of Holby city, certainly the latter would have had more drama and action than the DeMori fight. Does De Mori mean 'the dead' in Italian, he might as well have been.

I actually thought Haye lost the fight (closely of course.) it was one of the worst fights I've seen. But congrats to Haye for rocking that enormous heid!

I don't understand the criticism of Haye.

He's a prizefighter, his raison d'etre is to earn money not earn the grudging approval of boxing traditionalists for fighting dangerous opponents. If people enjoy themselves at his fights and he trousers a big cheque and Dave get good viewing figures then everyone's a winner and I'm happy for them all.

He's a bona fide British boxing legend in my book and his past exploits in the ring should see him afforded more respect. Anybody in his shoes would take for example a fight against Briggs rather than a serious opponent if the money's comparable. If some parts of the media and some of the absurd alphabet associations want to put him forward as a credible challenger for a title before he's really earned a shot then blame them. He's playing em all for fools and good luck to him.

Granted it was an awful fight but I can't see how anyone could give Valuev 6 rounds in that fight.

My point was I'd rather see him chin Bellew than watch Briggs take a sustained beating. Hayes obviously playing it safe until a title (or big payday) opportunity presents itself. He's obviously got no intention of working his way into a position.

I was a fan of him myself but he's pretty difficult to like nowadays!
