I see what is being said about Monzon and he deserves his rating as one of the best MWs ever. I guess for me it is a question of 1 fight or 3? Over 1 fight I'd favour Robinson but Monzon has a decent chance of getting the win. Over a series I'd favour Robinson because he was more used to the idea of fighting a guy several times and having to come up with something different or more of what worked. I suspect a series would be 2-1

Robinson never fought anyone close to Monzon in ability... Robinson struggled with Fullmer who had 1 KO win in 26 fights during a stretch that included his 1st win over Robinson... Monzon had a much better jab than Robinson and was a big hitter with the overhand right, which Robinson was open to since he frequently loaded his punches and traded.. Follow-up hooks decked Robinson on a few occasions, from guys who weren't big hitters.

Monzon didn't get hit, floored, or beaten as much as Robinson in his 15 Middleweight Title Fights (they both fought 15. Monzon won all 15 - SRR won 8 of 15). Monzon fought better fighters: Rodrigo Valdez, Emile Griffith, Nino Benvenuti, Bennie Biscoe, and Jose Napoles, were by far better challengers, boxers, and punchers than Gene Fullmer, Jake LaMotta, Randy Turpin, Rocky Graziano, and Carmen Basilio... For fighting guys who couldn't box very well, Robinson lost a lot.
