So why ask Andy Townsend what Jose Mourinho's doing wrong?

Producers don't care about intelligent analysis they just want recognisable faces to tell the public that the Premier League is the best in the world and that GGG vs Brook is the new Hagler vs Hearns.

Right - so Adam Smith, the Sky Goblin and Johnny Nelson are Boxing's recognisable faces???!!

Adam Smith is the only boxing commentator that I genuinely can't sit through. Maybe I'm biased but I just find him beyond dire. He is as bad as a pundit / host, he just comes across as a complete fan boy or someone trying remarkably hard to portray themselves in a certain way.
He's done ok behind the scenes but he should very much stay there.

That's what I'm saying, it means feck all, look at all the ex-pro footballers who work as pundits, they're absolute plonkers when it comes to talking about the sport, just because you've been there and done it doesn't make you qualified to be an expert on it. If you want an informed analysis of any sport then you need a journalist who specialises in that sport and can come up with something more enlightening than "he should have done better there"

The only plus of him presenting is that Sky employ the level of pundits that make me mute anything other than the actual fights themselves anyway that it makes no odds to me. He'd have made Corrales v Castellio 1 unwatchable

Everyone has been complaining about Smith for years but obviously he has some serious influence there, if he hasn't been got rid of now, he never will be. However if Sky went bust tomorrow, I guarantee no other broadcaster would give him a job.
His defenders say he is a nice man and now loves the game (I don't think he had ever seen a fight before he started).
No one has ever accused him of doing the job competently though.

You're referring to Jimmy Magee in Ireland. He is seen as a legend in sporting circles in Ireland but he is pushing on a bit and some of his commentary for Dunne's fights was cringeworthy. However, RTE's boxing analysis on a whole is very good. Dunne has even stepped into the pundit role and is excellent. That's when they show a bit of boxing of course.

Some interesting point here. There should be more of divide between te broadcaster and the promoter. Sky pull the strings though and they want PPVs that sell. Eddies only PPV freighter is Joshua. He only fights 3 times a year. That leaves about 3-5 more date to fill. Sky know Haye sells ans they know exactly his numbers. So it was a no brainer from them. Eddie just does the donkey work. Thing is, Eddie has to rely on Haye, or other promoters to fill these dates or he has to throw his guys in the deep deep end (golovkin v brook). It's a worrying trend.

Also, Smith and Robinson, who are fans of the sport must cringe that they have to tow the company line when they know 100% this is a mismatch. A terrible,synical fight where Tony Bellew has every excuse possible if he loses and still keeps his world title. Hearn has to realise though even at this late stage of Hayes career he can punch and he will ko Bellew. He could be knocked out bad. Is it worth it?

Sky just can't compete with the American broadcasters. They don't have the finesse or the vision. Watch BT come into the sport. They will show how to present and package a broadcast.

I've always maintained that Adam Smith and Sky have done more long lasting damage to boxing than any other individual or party in the country.
