I think there were:
5 Kovalev rounds
3 Ward rounds
4 close rounds
To get to 117-110 Kovalev you have to give Kovalev every close round.
To get to 114-113 Ward you have to give Ward every close round.
Our opinions differ. I think there were
6 Kovalev rounds
2 Ward rounds
4 close rounds
Details:
1-3,6,8,10 Kovalev
4,5,9,12 close
7,11 Ward
the 7th was ward's round but I don't even think that round was massively clear cut.
incidentally - the jab kovalev lands with 19 seconds left in the round is just insane. i've watched it over and over.

Love to see it done in Russia, that would be incredible if they made that and although not putting up big numbers would buy some mad respect the Russians couldn't deny.
If that isn't bridge building I don't know what is.
what makes you think the rematch is '100 %'?

Money wise any number of fights could surpass it.
Credibility wise it's an easy sell.

Money wise, almost any other top fighter not named Andre Ward would surpass it. Dude is a rough watch.

I loved how he turned the Krusher fight on a dime in round 3. I don't understand how any boxing enthusiast could have a problem with the fight.
It was a work of the art of boxing.

This is the garbage I hate to hear. If a fan doesn't care for the antics of fighters like Ward or Hops, they are not "seasoned". I understand the art. But, I still prefer clean fighting. I don't mean that in the sense that Ward is dirty, even though he has shown to be. I mean that in the terms of clean, effective fundamentals. Ward does what he has to do to win. And it is in most cases, a rough and tumble ride. A lot of holding, smothering, and muddling things up on the inside. I understand that some of the "purists" have a fetish for this type of thing. But, I appreciate a fighter who can achieve a victory without all the "veteran" moves. Fighters who fight in such a way that only the 'seasoned' fighters can appreciate them do so because they are lacking in some way within basic fundamentals compared to their competition. Kudos to them. I understand it. I just don't care for it.
Ward's style is not appealing to most people. If he only appeals to some of the 'seasoned' crowd, then of course, he is not going to bring in any new fans.... much less anything close to big PPV numbers.

Krusher did the large majority of the holding, which is the only thing that kept the fight as close as it ended up being.
I love the way that Ward got up off the canvas and turned that fight in the face of Krusher's vaunted firepower. It was a thing of beauty the way Ward has made the "it isn't fair, Ward wouldn't stand still so Krusher could punch him crowd" whine and squeal.
Ward went up in weight, got in the ring with the 2nd most feared puncher in boxing, and literally disarmed him after getting knocked down, forcing the vaunted Krusher to wrestle for his life. It will be remembered as a classic match.
Ward is the fighter of 2016.

to turn things around like ward did under pressure takes great mental fortitude, he basically outthought and ultimately outfoxed the bigger man to get a close (razor thin) but deserved decision, of course with scoring being subjective not everbody will agree with the decision, but hey whats new ?

Ward is a disgrace of 2016. A boxer with pride and dignity would accept that a decision was questionable and would give an opponent a rematch without demands which will be hard to accept.

Ward is the fighter of 2016.
I had Ward COMPETING in the second half, is all. Kovalev dominated the first half, apart from i think round 3, but was still putting gloves on Ward - something pretty shocking given Ward's speed, athleticism and spoiling - throughout the second half. First time I've ever seen someone repeatedly touch Ward. So it was shocking to me that Ward was awarded the entire second half of the fight.
Had it an 8-4 kind of fight. Kovalev I feel wasn't given credit for his boxing skills. Kovalev kept a lot of composure given his challenger was trying to hug the life out of him. Often Ward would only punch coming out of clinches, which is a strange habit, and this is where usually has the most success, finding room for a snappy body shot or left hook. I can't believe someone dominated six rounds of a fight by holding and then only throwing left hands out of the clinch, not when Kovalev was landing jabs and rights throughout and outlanding him.
It's a very unpopular decision and perhaps the controversy will help sell the rematch.
Rematch could be interesting. Wardmay have grown into light heavy during that fight. But Kovalev went to the body very, very late and may go earlier next time, which could help break Ward down somewhat.

I'm a Ward fan and generally a fan of stylists and even I had Kovalev winning 7-4-1.
