Caractacus wrote:If you were to ask me,Vitali Klitschko loses were due to self-inflicted injuries.
so he pretty much just TKO'd himself.
The loss to Byrd was due to the fact he threw a punch to end all punches but miscalculated and missed
and tore his rotator cup in his shoulder causing not only torn muscle fibers but excruciating pain for every nano-second
afterwards.
In the fight with Lennox Lewis (which Vitali Klitschko was dominating)
that was a frak occurance,he leaned back just when Lewis threw a right hand,
and that fraction of a millemeter between his brow and the slight snap end of Lewis punch
caused just the right distance to inflict a cut like it was done by a razor blade
(unless the cut had been caused by an elbow, which is possible, and was thought to have been the source
just after it happened to some)
also his earlier loss in the kicking boxing bout ,I think he injured himself in that one too)
Vitali didn't throw "a punch to end all punches" at Byrd ... Since he was a much better boxer, and easily out-pointed Byrd all the way like his brother did twice, there was no reason to throw such a punch. That's not the way he operated. His MO was to control his fights, steadily beat the crap out of you and stay ahead on points... until you quit... were knocked out... the referee rescued you... or he won the decision... A torn rotator cuff is a very common injury that happened with more or less severity to Pacquiao.. Mayweather.. Hopkins.. Cerdan.. and many other boxers... It's not something you inflict on yourself -- it's something that happens because we're human beings and all kinds of sh!t happens to humans.
The deep slashes on Vitali's left eyelid and cheek weren't a "freak" accident... The thumb strike to the eyelid, the first blow Lewis threw in the 3rd, was meant to cut Klitschko's eye. Lewis thew with an open glove (illegal) and rotated his wrist in a classic thumb strike. Lewis did not try to land the punch flush, but to skirt Klitschko's eyelid. He knew he executed a great thumb strike so he immediately pulled Vitali into a clinch with his right arm firmly grabbing Vitali around the neck. Lewis then executed a holding and hitting cuff to the cut eye which accomplished 3 things with one foul blow. It ripped open the cut on the eyelid... It ripped open a second cut on the eyelid... It slashed a cut on Vitali's cheek with the follow through. When the punch reached Vitali's cheek his palm was actually turned toward Vitali's face, so in reality it was a palm slash. But any area other than the end of the fist makes the punch illegal, even if it weren't holding-n-hitting, which it was... Numerous fouls in a few seconds.
The fight goes to the scorecards even if the fouls were unintentional, which they weren't... Ward cut Kessler with "unintentional" head butts, but the fight still went to the scorecards... Ward won a unanimous TD 11/12 ... More than 4 rounds had been completed... VK-LL should have been Klitschko W UTD 6/12... It should be obvious to everyone that a thumb strike and holding and hitting aren't legal blows -- intentional or whatever.

Wwll, I was just going by memory when I watched it live on TV.
BTW I had read somewhere that Vitali Klitachko had published his autobiography in Germany back in 2004.
was it ever published in the English language or plans to ?

It's either the Sanders win or the Lewis loss. It's slim pickings, really.

Which was his best and/or defining win?
Corrie Sanders, as it brought him a recognized by that moment championship. Sanders was a real threat, if not Vitali's freakish chin, Sanders could have KOed both brothers.
Chisora is probably his second best win, but for the moment of winning Chisora this win wasn't that big.
What was his best KO win?
Sanders again.
Regardless of win/loss.. Who was his best opponent?
Lewis, of course. And then Byrd. His only losses eventually.

Given that his big win was over Corrie Sanders that is understandable.

As well he should. He doesn't have a best win.

Vitali in the Hall of Fame. That just about finishes boxing.

Yeah, nothing against the man but he's one of about 15-20 that really ought not to be near the hall of fame.

He‘s an ATG. Get over it people. It’s not just who he beat, it’s how he beat them. Vitali was a fearsome prospect for any heavyweight.

i mean, if deontay wilder were to beat ortiz in the rematch and then beat lets say kownacki in his next fight (i think theres a decent chance this is how it plays out), would he deserve the hall?
cuz basically wilder would have a load of wbc title defenses and a super high ko ratio too (a much more legit one in terms of actual power), maybe even a better record then vit
i mean, this is a good level of fighter for sure, but i just dont think its hall worthy

He was big. HE was scary. He wasn't hall worthy. No career defining win. Only a career defining loss to Lewis. Nope.

Wilder probably already has a better resume than vitali, damn close. Then again, he's an atg because people say so.

His best win is probably Samuel Peter just given that he was coming out of a 4 year hiatus, and went straight back to a title fight which he dominated.
Corrie Sanders was probably the most dangerous opponent he fought and beat.

Vitali vs Wilder - who would win? For me, Vitali

As of now I'd still pick Vitali, but not with a lot of confidence. If Wilder ever records a KO over AJ or Fury in his career, I see no reason why he couldn't beat Vitali.

I'd take vitali, I'd also take him to beat many more accomplished fighters. We're both wrong every weak, that's no way to evaluate a resume.

Why not? Did you not bring Wilder into it in the first place? Someone did anyway, it merits a response.

I would pick Wilder over Vitali. He wouldn't have his precious size advantage over Deontay, and he would certainly get hit and hurt. And Deontay has a desire Vitali only encountered twice, versus Byrd and Lewis. The sight of a buzzed Vitali fleeing backwards, as he did when hurt versus Sanders, as Wilder almost falls over himself looping follow ups, would be an aesthetic atrocity, but also a physical comedy masterpiece.
