Patriotic rooting is much more a foreign thing, not an American thing. America has athletes that are great at basically every sport. Foreign athletes do not. Russians and Germans and Brits and Mexicans and Asians arent good at sports like basketball. Boxing is more of a primary sport to the best athletes in the those countries so the fans are obviously gonna get behind them more in the sports they're actually good at. Boxing is a last resort sport for the best athletes in America.

I see why you're not patriotic with boxing

Football?
OK, I had been betting for years (successfully) and I has been fed up of football. So, I am no more football fan, of course I will root for the national team, but, now, I am a very mild supporter.
I have been following boxing from my childhood and never been fed up (I have never betting on boxing)...........

I have a lot of time for Delboy too. He's not gifted with great ability but he is a true warrior who will fight anyone, anywhere, and even if they beat him they will know they've been in a fight.

I don't tend to dislike boxers. I even like Deontay despite the fact I'm always laying into him on here. Those that I most admire though aren't necessarily the best fighters, the most pleasant personalities, or the the most interesting speakers. I like guys who aren't scared to fight anyone people like Dylian Whyte or Dominic Breazeale are right up there in my estimation.
I don't like Bellew's trash talking. Delboy's spitting was border line for me (what a piece of shait)....I like Deontay, too....I don't know a lot about Whyte (I have watched him twice, against Joshua and Chisora) or Breazeale (only vs Joshua)....
Yes not Chisora's finest moment admittedly. Bellew can trash-talk with the best of them. I much prefer to see how Wlad and AJ conduct themselves but some people, probably most boxing fans, seem to love it. I must admit l do too when it's done with a bit of wit like Tyson Fury when he's on form. I would have said Muhammad Ali but that's setting the bar so high it wouldn't be fair.

I like to see boxers behaving like gentlemen, Tyson Fury is a very strange guy, but from time to time, I consider him pretty witty. So, I wait for his comeback.

Everyone around me do it. It is a little bit different - the team and the person (footbal and boxing).
Nobody (almost nobody) around me knows anything about recent boxers, except HWs.

Impossible? You support the football team, so when there's a boxer from your nation just get behind them as well! Not too hard mate

We can speak theoretically, but, there is not any high level boxer in my country (in the countries around, too) and I don't think it will be changed soon....

That's a very nationalistic thing to say. Basketball is an American sport. We aren't good at it compared to Americans there again we tend to be better at cricket ...

Boxing had it's origins (as an organized activity} in Britain but during the whole of the last century it was completely dominated (pro-boxing anyway) by the US. Most British kids and I'd guestimate 75% of those around the world, want to play football (soccer to you) , so I wouldn't agree that boxing is more of a primary sport in Britain, or if it is, ir's a very recent development.

Just For the record, and at the risk of coming over as patriotic (heaven forbid), for a country of roughly 20% of your population, we do ok at quite a lot of different sports as the medals table of each of the last few Olympics would attest.

May I ask: in the old pre-split Yugoslavia, was there animosity between its parts? Would you root for let's say Zlaticanin at that time or for a Serbian boxer?

Basketball is a GLOBAL sport. It's just that other nationalities arent very good at it. The sport is huge nationally and internationally, be serious.

And the only reason foreignors are better at cricket is because Americans dont even play it.

The British compete at the top level for football, cricket, rugby union, rugby league, boxing, golf, tennis, athletics, formula one, a load of the Olympic sports etc

Try look elsewhere past basketball, baseball and American football for sports that the rest of the world participate at!

Come play it! Step out of your national equivalent sport, baseball, and try the internationally competed version

It is a very difficult question, and I cannot answer properly. Too complicated..... Zlatićanin is totally unknown....
When I was a child, there were two Olympic gold medalist (both LHW, both became pro-world champions, Parlov - 1972 from Croatia, and Kačar -1980 from Serbia). Everone, literally everyone around me supported both....I really feel that only people from Lebanon can understand us....
And once again - fu.k the nationalism/racism/chauvinism !

I don't mind patriotric rooting as much as the regional-rooting - can't people just pick the boxers they think box the best and support them?

I have more of a issue with frontrunners than I do patriotic supporters. But seriously do people get offended over everything these days? Why would anyone worry about who someone supports and cheers for and for what reason?
