Conor Benn v Cedrick Peynaud
Re: Conor Benn v Cedrick Peynaud
So watched this today. Personally thought it was a disgusting decision.
It as an excellent fight in fairness. But Conor going life and death with him is a bad sign. They'll be even more careful with his matchmaking going forward.
Peynaud was still brought in to knockover. How much notice did he have ? A week ?
Conor does seem a nice lad but the hype from sky is too much for his ability. .

Yeah I gave third to French dude Toby. Can't remember what went down now tbh but I basically gave the first four to the Frenchman. There was a round where Benn was winning without doing anything spectacular then the Frenchman just landed some really quality shots in the last 40 seconds or so.... Can't mind if that was the third or fourth tbh mate.... Cracking fight and I'll deffo watch it again but I thought the Frenchman was hard done by to be honest....tobyh5 wrote: ↑14 Dec 2017, 09:40Not sure why now, but I gave Benn the 4th last night when I sat back at the end, maybe Bellew said something which clouded my mind. I just re-watched as I wanted to argue against your scorecard as I had it a draw or point to Benn but I was wrong as 4th is easily a Peynaud round - dominated the first minute, hit Benn flush and hurt him, middle minute Benn landed a couple shots, all a bit 50-50 and last minute Peynaud edged it just but even if not, Benn did nothing to reclaim ground lost in that first minute.Stuarty30 wrote: ↑14 Dec 2017, 09:17 Great little fight but it's exposed Benn in a big way. I think most of us already knew about his limitations etc... I had the French guy winning 56-54. Thought the scoring was pure AIDS! All it does it detract from what a good fight it was. Benn will be doing well to challenge for a British title. Can't see him winning the Lonsdale belt tbh.
How did you have the 3rd round? Both had good moments and caught the other flush and hurt the other. I think we have some definite scored rounds or 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 with the 3rd being one I am unsure of
1. 10-7
2. 10-9
3. .....
4. 10-9
5. 8-10
6. 8-10
So that is 45-46 to Peynaud with the third either making it a draw or Peynaud by 2 points, as I assume you had it.
But give Benn a 10-7 in the last round and the third and it is potentially now 55-54 to Benn.
For me, totally then down to the third and whether the final round was 10-8 or 10-7.
Three point win for Benn is impossible, that is seriously effed up.

That's why I love this site. We know more than the blokes doing the commentary thanks to you.
Nice one.
Re: Conor Benn v Cedrick Peynaud
A terrible & great performance from Benn. He needs to learn to use his jab more but what f*cking heart he has. Someone called him a pampered rich kid but he has something you cannot teach.
But he's still a novice. When there have been threads calling for him to step up I've said that he needs more time. And this fight showed that.
His dad was something else excitement-wise but he could also box a bit when needed. Conor needs to work on that side of his game as he doesn't have his Old Mans explosive power.
Best of luck to him

Re: Conor Benn v Cedrick Peynaud
I thought it was a draw. 3 rounds was a bit ridiculous.
Said for years the way 4,6 and 8 rounders get scored in this country in a prospects favour is nothing short of incompetence and corruption.
Happens on every small Hall show. This just happened to be a big stage.
Every time a journeyman wins a round it’s usually scored a 10-10. Yet the same ref would do a title fight and never score a round 10-10. If you ever get bored look through a journeyman’s record and calculate the 10-10 rounds. It’s mind boggling.
Back to Benn. His promotional team have stitched him up here. The exposure they’ve got him is first class. But his apprenticeship should of been away from the cameras and only brought him out sparingly against a tomato can to feed the hype.
Feel sorry for the kid. Everyone of his fights has been hyped with Sky billing him as the next big thing.
I thought his interview showed what a fantastic mentality he has. Great attitude. Most would of crumbled under the same scenario.
Playing mythical promoter. There’s a potentially huge fight down the road in 18 months that no-one has seen. Harley and Conor clearly don’t get on and Harley is getting closer to WW.
Never seen two brothers box professionally. Puts Nigel in a difficult posistion. But that difficult posistion and their limitations makes it the best money spinning fight for both.
Harley needs to improve to make the fight competetive, but not improve by much.

Re: Conor Benn v Cedrick Peynaud
Cedrick Peynaud won clearly for me , but benn is the home fighter , i said it before i don't think benn will win a british title
Re: Conor Benn v Cedrick Peynaud
now that you menton it i do seem to see a lot more even rounds scored in 4-8 rounders. and small hall shows in general too. way more 10-10s actually.PredatorHayds wrote: ↑16 Dec 2017, 11:17 I thought it was a draw. 3 rounds was a bit ridiculous.

Re: Conor Benn v Cedrick Peynaud
Conor Benn scored a controversial unanimous decision over Cedrick Peynaud in York Hall.
Benn, who has been the recipient of a lot of hype recently was given a tougher fight than expected by the game Peynaud.
Peynaud was expected to get starched within a couple of rounds but flipped the script within the first 90 seconds as he landed a sharp right hand to the chin of Benn. Benn, who for the first time realized what professional boxing was all about, picked himself up off the canvas and took the 8 count.
Peynaud charged forward looking for exchanges and young Benn was only too happy to deliver as he showed the vaunted Benn heart. He was subsequently put down again as a result. Benn made it out of the round but this was a 10-7 round and Benn had a mountain to climb.
The fans in York Hall tried to catch their breath between rounds as Benn tried to regroup in the corner with a slight look of shock on his face. One can imagine that readings from a blood pressure monitor attached to Eddie Hearn at this point would have been on the high side.
Peynaud came out and showed he was as game as a pebble in the second round, winning the round clearly. He also took the third. Benn salvaged the fourth and fifth and to his credit got Peynaud going in the last round to secure a 10-8. Unfortunately on any sane persons scorecard that meant this fight was a draw. However in what is now becoming typical British Boxing fashion and all to common in a British ring, the official scoring of the fight was a shambolic 57-54 to Benn. This was a laughable score and really makes you think about what exactly was going on.
Benn was very marked up after the fight and while nobody can question his heart, there remain major questions about whether he can get anything substantial done in the professional game.

Re: Conor Benn v Cedrick Peynaud
You put that the Frenchman won the first 10-7 and took the 2nd and 3rd, then you say Benn won the next three, with the knockdowns in each of the last two, you surely make it a draw?

Re: Conor Benn v Cedrick Peynaud
I had Peynaud winning by 2 (gave him the 4th round as well which I seem to be in the minority). Don't know how Benn could be given the decision to be honest let alone winning by 3. It was a draw at best for him.
