I wouldn't be shocked if Fury had to make himself manditory again. (Though didn't have seem deal with the WBO worked out?)

I'm not sure Hearn and AJ really want the fight but Joshua vs. Fury is the biggest HW fight to make today.
It isn't 50/50 but Joshua/Fury draws more eyeballs than Joshua/Wilder.
Ultimately if Joshua wants the biggest payday available he has to work with Fury...

He'll have been out for the best part of 3 years so he's entitled to work his way back in.

I think they'll err on the side of caution first fight back so I'm not expecting anyone ranked or rated in any way.

Depending on how he performs first time out they will step him up accordingly. If he looks good I think they will step him up fast. If not it could be a short lived comeback or a long road back.

Because Haye is a draw. Fury isn’t.

The only thing I will bet money on, is being disappointed in the selection.
Unfortunately we not get to see a Leonard/Bowe comeback. And mores the pity. That comeback made Ray an automatic LEGEND in my mind, still does.
Nope, we will get the most disappointing tomato can imaginable and I probably won't even bother to watch.
Fury is a social media legend created by people with short term memories who have forgotten how dismal he is to watch.

The comparison with Haye coming back at first glance sounds ludicrous as Haye is a draw and Fury never has been, however his popularity does appear to have grown during his absence from the ring and there will be a lot of curiosity. I’m not sure that tickets will be a big seller but perhaps, though assuming it’s not a PPV I think tv viewers will be high

I dont think he would do Haye numbers but on free tv if Haye drew 3million i think it it is reasonable to think Fury could draw between 500k and 1million quite easily...

Absolutely. I've always been interested in Fury's career, but Wlad aside I've never considered him PPV-worthy. The Chisora rematch was borderline, and Cunningham wasn't expected to present a threat.

If he fought Ustinov or Breazeale he'd draw plenty of viewers. Paying viewers, not so much, and if the opponent's someone he met in a kebab shop, definitely not. Joshua, Wilder and Fury, in any combination, are PPVs right now.

I'm not sure his popularity has grown, but there's certainly an angle for the comeback which will generate interest. Namely how does he look, and can we pick up anything to suggest how he'd get on against Joshua.

If he comes back and has four fights this year against nobody better than someone like Takam interest will fade away if he's as boring as he was when he last fought. There seems to have been a lot of forgetting when it comes to just how poorly the Klitschko fight was received, and just how dismally it sold.

It sold better than expected. More than AJ-Whyte.

I have read that the rematch had only sold 14,000 tickets before it was called off with two weeks to go. Does anyone have a source for the Fury/Klitschko Box Office numbers?

I get the impression that Fury has a very loyal, core support but beyond that he is just seen as a bit of a comedy act/knobhead by the general public.

Having said that, Frank knows what he's doing. He wants his share of that juicy Joshua/Fury purse so he'll give Tyson whatever he wants, even if that is a journeyman on PPV.

Breazeale would be an excellent opponent, although maybe a little bit too tough for a first fight in nearly 3 years.

Agreed. Anyone in that fringe-world-level group (Breazeale, Takam etc) would be a very, very impressive opponent and I certainly wouldn't blame him and his team for taking a soft touch for his first fight back. Just don't stick it on PPV and don't expect people to pay large sums to see it live.

I guess the choice of opponent comes down to how much Wrank Farren is prepared to pay for a show that may well sell poorly, despite the interest in Fury’s comeback.

I don’t reckon Brezeale for the first fight back, perhaps Eric Molina or Mariusz Wach. Maybe Amir Mansour...
