Re: haye's finished
Del Boy got slapped outside the ring and then blasted out inside the ring against Haye. That must hurt his pride.
It’s a shame he is licking Bellew’s nutsack for some reason, Del Boy would beat him. Would be worth calling him out and starting a Matchroom storyline

Thing is, once these boxers that tasting some ppv money, they wanna keep getting that same amount every time they fight (unless they lose)..
Brook vs. Spence shouldn't have been ppv, but the good thing with Hearn is he'll have a decent/good undercard to support the main event.

He was a shadow of his former self. Taking nothing away from Bellew, but i think most knowledgeable fans know a prime Haye would have smoked his boots.
He should def retire. If he fights on he will loose to very mediocre fighters and further tarnish his legacy. It was sad to see him loose like that to Bellew, it will only get sadder if he fights on.

Re: haye's finished
And yet I've still doubts that Haye's even more broken now than he was then. Against De Mori he was wearing Nora Batty's support socks and moving like a Victorian gentleman boxer, but the power was obviously still there to some degree.
Bellew's leagues ahead of De Mori for not giving Haye the right distance and angles to set up, but there've been moments in both fights when Haye's hit gloves and arms with his best shots and the pop's not been there. It's like he now relies almost entirely on upper-body rotation to get the job done, and it doesn't.
We can debate how much worse he is two years on, but do you agree that he seems to have slid even more, if only slightly in a way that wasn't a factor in this outcome?
Re: haye's finished
Honestly, I think Haye deteriorated a great deal between the two Bellew fights. In the first fight he was able to fight at a mad pace for three rounds (missing with one wild haymaker after another) and still had the stamina to box his way into it and land more and more. He was 4-1 up and cruising when the injury happened and still kept throwing till the end.
Saturday night he looked knackered after two rounds of jabbing and the left hook he walked into in round 3 (causing him to back up and leading to Bellew hunting him down for the first KD) was the end of the fight as a contest. The handful of times he caught and hurt Bellew he didn't even have the stamina to follow up. Big difference.
How could he not know his condition was that bad going in? It's hard to understand why he hasn't announced retirement - his balance, stamina, reflexes, chin are all gone. Unless he needs more money to pay off debts etc (in which I would recommend he finds an offshore lawyer rather than trying to get any more fights).

I think the two of them are friends. IIRC they sparred before the first fight and both were flattering each other.lillywhite14 wrote: ↑06 May 2018, 13:54 Del Boy got slapped outside the ring and then blasted out inside the ring against Haye. That must hurt his pride.

I think Haye was still carrying the Achilles injury. Watching the ‘behind the scenes’ on SKY I noticed Haye wasn’t doing any running. Just walking on a running machine.dookus wrote: ↑07 May 2018, 11:11 Honestly, I think Haye deteriorated a great deal between the two Bellew fights. Stinks of a pay day for Haye.

No I don’t think so. The casuals lap it up and don’t know any different. I got sucked in myself, after feeling that it would be a decent fight, I fell head over heels. NOW? F'k 'em. So more than Casuals fell for it this time around. Haye is one of my favourite fighters but he fooled the public and was injured again. Retire now please
Re: haye's finished
I got sucked in as well. That’s what made it entertaining as in so many fights you pretty much know what the result is going to be.oogiebe wrote: ↑07 May 2018, 12:35I got sucked in myself, after feeling that it would be a decent fight, I fell head over heels. He fooled nobody but himself. Listen to him post fight, he genuinely believes he can train himself into 1 last big win. He real felt what he was saying. I don't think he will ever accept its not there anymore.
He no longer has Adam booth, I'm not convinced he would ever listen to anybody else who is guiding him in his training or career. It's why I'm glad George Groves has found a solid base with Shane, he seems to have found that trust again to give him his mental edge back.
It was sad to see him like that, but the injuries he has sustained made it likely to happen whether we believed it or not. He was never a purist, always an athlete.
In a strange way I'm glad it was Tony that did him, I don't like him one bit and that's the way it should be.

I’m still not sure what Ismael Salas bought to the party either, Haye looked worse than he did in their first fight.

it’s plain for all to see that Haye isn’t the same fighter anymore, it isn’t a controversial thing for Booth to say, regardless if they are still friends or not.

I think Groves would have lost to Froch with Shane. He'd probably still be undefeated if he'd stayed with Booth though. Booth would have made him fight the Degale fight and he'd have outpointed Froch. He'd have beaten Jack too.Yes We Can wrote: ↑07 May 2018, 14:26He fooled nobody but himself. There must be some reason why they leave Booth. I suspect it's all about money.
Re: haye's finished
He was finished before the last fight. He's just simply not got it anymore! Credit to Bellew though. Fantastic win and performance. Hope he boxes on so we can see where he's actually at because Haye has flattered him.

Re: haye's finished
Aye, good post. In hindsight, the first warning sign was his weight: I think he should've been closer to 210 than 220. But even with that timber, I think most of us expected a rerun of the first fight, only without the seriousness of the tear and therefore a Haye win. The big question mark was another breakdown that never came.dookus wrote: ↑07 May 2018, 11:11Honestly, I think Haye deteriorated a great deal between the two Bellew fights. He's had a slight gut for half a dozen years now, but never as Phil Heath as this:

He seemed to have a reasonable base of fitness last time, so maybe his heel went towards the end of that camp? Whereas this time it looks like he wasn't able to train hard at all, just lift. Half an hour of water-running every day with longish intervals might've helped. But then I guess having good cardio's a bit surplus if you can't move very well in the first place. Brings to mind Rocky Balboa's final camp.
I like the guy, but even if you don't, this is a really sad end. I'm struggling to think of a bigger slide in-between two fights. I don't mind Bellew winning (he boxed well), but we've all been short-changed for our hopes of this rematch.
Re: haye's finished
This is the view I subscribe to as well. I think he managed to delude himself more than anything (though hardly the first fighter to do so). I suspect he's going to struggle mentally coming to terms with the fact it's all over for him.Yes We Can wrote: ↑07 May 2018, 14:26He fooled nobody but himself. Re: haye's finished
I’m surpirsed he’s still not announced his retirement. He’s in a far better position than most fighters, he’s a multi millionaire, has good sponsorship deals and his own promotion team. You would think he would just be happy with his achievements and accept his lot.
Re: haye's finished
I'm not so sure his finances are quite as rosy as that. There are a lot of rumours regarding the fact he's blown through a lot of his money. Sponsorship deals will be hard to come by now and it's very hard to make good money as a promoter.Controversial wrote: ↑08 May 2018, 05:05 I’m surpirsed he’s still not announced his retirement. Re: haye's finished
Money worries can be his only possible reason for fighting on now surely. He'll never get back into title contention now and would risk getting badly hurt if he fought one of the big punching heavyweights. Bellew isn't a particularly big puncher at cruiserweight let alone heavyweight and he had Haye all over the place several times. It's time Haye packed it now. He's been a legend of British boxing but must surely realise that his time is up.
