I think Holyfield was older than Tyson and despite him having his bubble burst already, he'd looked "unbeatable" again against a bunch of handpicked stiffs and DK stooges. Most pundits picked Tyson by early KO and some even feared for his life etc.

I think most picked Campas to lose to Marquez although they were roughly the same age, Campas looked much older and had more miles on the lock.

Tony Booth upsetting Omar Sheika (saw that live), same undercard saw Kelly Oliver get flattened by Buster Keeton.

Jim was the pre-fight favourite because most of O'Grady's 75 wins came in his native Oklahoma and were handpicked by Pat O'Grady, his father, manager and promoter. Don't get me wrong, O'Grady could fight but you had to be somebody special to beat southpaw Watt in his own Glasgow and the Scot boxed O'Grady's ears off for much of the fight, which people tend to forget. The champion was ahead on all three cards at the finish.

O'Grady was a serious puncher with killer instinct (Tim Mo of Boxing News said Sean had the coldest eyes he ever saw) but he was mismanaged by his father Pat, although he did make it to the WBA lightweight title with a thrilling win over Kronk's Hilmer Kenty in 1981. How about Pat Cowdell & Najib Daho ?
The older British champion Cowdell devastated in a round by Daho in the first fight, only to reclaim the championship from Daho a year later. Will never forget that first fight - it was shown live on tv at the time, and was a huge shock to see Cowdell blasted out like that.

It was after Cowdell had lost to Nelson in a round,it was shown on a Saturday afternoon live and Daho jumped on Cowdell,revenge was sweet though when normal service was resumed.

Joe was the underdog. 6/4 or 7/4 was generally available for Calzaghe. I know - because I backed him

My recollection is that this was considered a seriously dangerous fight for Joe to take - Lacy was unbeaten, and was a knockout / stoppage artist, and a real beast at the weight.. Seem to remember him being touted as a mini mike Tyson at the time. It was definitely seen as at least a 50-50 fight, and a lot of people expected the American to destroy Joe.

Kilsby - thanks, defer to you on that. Lacey must have slightly tighter than 4/6, to give the bookmakers their margin, so around a 60/40 split.

Same. People also seem to forget that Joe was in absolutely poo form and hadn’t looked good for a while.

Herol Graham vs Chris Johnson

Herol had come back after 4 years out, hadn't looked that impressive in his 2 comeback fights winning then on points, Johnson was 18-0 at the time and a touted prospect, Herol turned back the clock and completely outboxed and stopped Johnson.

That was a very good performance by Graham,my all time favourite uk fighter.
