Billy's been religiously banging Bakole's drum on twitter for a while now, I mean nearly every tweet in the last couple of years is him calling out HWs for Bakole, not saying that was why he let him take unnecessary punishment but I do think this would've been unthinkable for him

You can't believe what trainers and managers say about their own fighters. Scott Welch was saying Nick Webb was the next great heavyweight and he got starched by Dave Allen of all people.

Yup. McGregor was in a decent little scrap and some cruiserweight Billan-Smith was in a decent one too. Just into Chantelle Cameron last couple of rounds and wondering if I'm the only one thinks she's better than Katie Taylor
Yeah I enjoyed the undercard. Cameron looked very good. I'm not sure I'd pick her to beat Taylor but I'd say she would be her best opponent to date.

I must admit. I'm old-school. I find or found the whole idea of women boxing distasteful but I have to admit I'm being won over by the quality I'm seeing. I watch the women playing football and the difference between that and the men's game is a bit cringe inducing, but you watch someone like Taylor and you are struck by the professionalism or at least I am.

I must confess to feeling a little bit conned by Bakole. I mean it wasn't that I underrated Hunter, I knew what he would bring to the party, but after all the fanfare about MBI, how you'd pay to watch the world-class sparring between he and Joshua, by his destruction of Akinlade, Billy Nelson raving about his quality, I was distinctly underwhelmed from the start.

Whether that injury was as bad as he claimed or not, he didn't appear to know how to cope and he didn't show much heart either if you ask me. Maybe I'm being harsh, it's always easy to be critical from the safe side of the ropes but I no longer have any expectations of him doing anything at world level.

Without wanting to seem like I'm indulging in hindsight I'd say there were elements of the fight that were pretty predictable- Hunter has world class skills at cruiserweight so was always likely to be able to use his extra speed and skill to give the bigger slower man problems, it was just a matter of whether Bakolie would be able to have enough success to make his size tell- he lacked the skill to do it.

Absolutely it was always expected Hunter would be ahead courtesy of his speed and mobility until the bigger man could bring his advantages in size and firepower to bear and lower the boom, but after about three rounds it was looking increasingly apparent that MBI was lacking the wherewithal despite all the hype.

Might I suggest Gary Cornish as a next opponent to determine who's the best Heavyweight in Scotland ?

The fight was decent. Hunter wasn't frustrated by the opponent's size and outworked him to the battering in the final round.

I think Tyson Fury would affectionately call Bakole a "wooden top" after last nights performance.
Might be a bit unfair on the lad if he was injured early doors , but not far off the mark .

The injury was in the 8th, you can see him throw his arm out and start looking in distress to his corner. After that round he immediately asked his trainer to stop the fight.

He could have stopped it himself if he wanted to. I guess he wanted his corners advise.

I thought it was later on in the fight , but it makes you wonder with these shoulder injuries if something isn't quite right coming into the ring .

It was definitely the 8th (of 10). The conversation between Billy Nelson & Bakole happened after that round when the fighter indicated he wanted to stop. BN told him he wasn't having that and sent him out for the 9th. MB stood up and then turned as if he was going to quit and then seemed to change his mind, turned to face his opponent and carried on.

It was really unpleasant to watch. Seeing Bakole walk back to his corner at the start of the 9th only to be sent back by the coach was horrible. It was like watching a bullying father forcing his son to do something against his wishes just to save face.
