He was a rough old customer, Calzaghe was cut badly and hurt his fragile hands. Nevertheless it was another example of the Welshman being able to think on his feet, change plan mid fight and essentially he handled the guy well despite Bika keeping on coming, head and fist all night long.

I remember thinking joe seemed to be trying too hard cos Jay Larkin was in the front row for showtime. Underrated fighter was Bika.

A childish comment, but I believe his missus was a beastly thing  soz to be like tyan booth

I was working on a site on the outer Hebrides back in 2006 and got talking to some sub contractors who were from Nottingham. They said he was very well known around the city, firstly for being a boxer, and secondly for being a total berk.

Interesting that both examples he was with family - maybe when he is on his own he shies his true colours?

Calzaghe was left with two choices.

Do you want to bow out against Froch for peanuts at a weight you've just moved up from?

Or do you want to bow out against Roy Jones for good money at Madison Square Garden?

People need to stop the lazy accusation that Calzaghe ducked Froch. It didn't happen. Calzaghe was done with super middle weight and wanted a last big pay day in a high profile fight in the states.

The ships just never passed in the night
Not only was Calzaghe smart but he was a shrewd fighter made good decisions at the correct time - miss him!
My only criticism of Calzaghe is that he should have tested himself against the American guys when he was younger
Not just the Americans but all the other guys floating around the Super Middleweight division during his WBO reign of terror, Beyer, Ottke, Green, Mundine and Lucas, he could have unified that division years before he actually did.
Nah - he was lucky to get the decision against Reid and he wouldn’t give him a rematch.

Every fighter has had at least one debatable decision in their career so it's no big deal there was no rematch,Froch was on his knees praying he got the verdict against Dirrell and a rematch was never mentioned.

Only thicko’s don’t get Froch’s dry style.

He’s got more dough than Calzaghe, Groves & Degale added together. A model Mrs, a beautiful family and Ferrari’s - plus 100+ houses he rents out.

Carry on

He gave Degale a bit of praise wished him well but then finished his comment off by saying he didn't fight the best of the best and that if he'd met him in the ring he'd have smashed him.

Now I don't disagree with him on that prediction but as always he has to have a sly dig.
Who was the best of his era? Dirrel,Bute,Jack? Am i missing anyone? Cant count ward cause he moved up to light heavyweight and from what i remember froch fought ward once and got took to school at his own game.

Froch had a brilliant career entertained us all and beat every man he faced bar 1 so be humble and respectful.

Degale only said what Calzaghe said about Collins, what Froch said about Calzaghe,it is what it is,the next gen has to say this to hype his own career up plus obviously they would of liked to fight them to win the title instead of a vacant title fight.
Kessler.

Clearly just a very very tough & gritty fighter, who despite all that,is mentally insecure & quite obviously doubts himself & his achievements

Mans body & a boys mind and all that....

He wanted JCC Jr in Vegas. Would not fight Degale held his career up for 6 months did him and Hearn. When Hearn got asked about GGG he said he would only take that fight on USA ppv but that would not be the case for chavez as it was basically an easy fight. And again for the record Froch turned down 2 offers to fight Joe.

Some people are so poor all they have is money. You may seem to have it all externally but if you aren’t happy on the inside none of it matters.

I remember the face off with Ward where Ward told Froch “You gonna let me speak?” firmly after which he meekly said “Sorry” and kept his mouth shut.

A very insecure man demonstrated by his need to berate other and change his physical appearance. But cracking fighter. I was a big fan of his on the way up. I liked the arrogance. But there is a fine line between arrogance & being a complete .........

I think it is interesting that Froch never sought rematches for the fights where he was well beaten, Dirrell and Ward. The Ward fight must be a tough one for him to watch, as not only was he outboxed, he was manhandled and roughed up. Fair play to Froch, though, he was smart enough not to go near Ward again as I think he would have known that Ward might have stopped him the second time round.

Unfair to say he was "well beaten" by dirrell, comfortable fighters dominating a fight don't throw themselves to the canvas every 30 seconds, whinge to the ref and run all night.

I also don't think ward stops him. It's safe to say Carl was durable.

I disagree about the Dirrell fight, the bloke didn't even turn up to have a scrap, it was all, hit and hold, whinge whinge whinge, Carl did well in that fight given the circumstances, Dirrell made Matthew Barneys performance against Carl look brave.

Dirrell moaned and bitched his way through his next fight too then faked an injury to get Abraham DQ'd

Shithouse of a boxer.

Yes but to score a fight it is all about punches landed. Dirrell landed far more than Froch.
