That's helpful.

I feel like some people in this thread don't understand how much better boxers are at boxing than Joe Schmoes are. If not for the fact that Malignaggi is probably going to break his hands in the opening seconds, I'd probably place the betting odds around 1:50.

This match-up is like Antonio Tarver vs Kimbo Slice in essentially a boxing match. In the sport of boxing, the gap between top boxers and MMA fighters is huge. Which, btw, Artem Lobov is 13–15–1 in MMA, which is his primary sport. It's not as though Lobov even reached the top 10 in MMA (and even then a #1 MMA fighter generally can't compete with a #40 boxer in a boxing match).

It's not straight up boxing though, that's the point. The rules favour more dirty boxing and boxing on the inside.

If it was a straight up boxing match, with Paulie able to just box at range with very little inside work/rough stuff, then yeah I'd agree, Paulie just straight up lights him up.

The rules that make this somewhat different to a regular boxing match though, make it more intriguing.

Dunno.
Sort of interesting though isn't it.

Most MMA fighters have a basic understanding of the clinch, because its an important part of the sport.

true although for a purely stand up bare knuckle boxing match the clinch becomes a lot more 1 dimensional. knees, elbows, takedowns, subs, etc .....those and the moves for them are irrelevant, so its just all about punches still.

in bare knuckle rules is it that clinch simply isnt broke, or like, can you grab a guys arm, immobilize it, and hit him ?

I'm not sure if you can pin a guy's arm, but considering you're allowed to just grab a hold of their head, and pound away with your free hand I'd think yes.

I don't think there is a standardised set of rules yet, I believe each promotion has their own similar to the early days of MMA

From what I've seen and read. Yeah the ref won't break it up when you enter the clinch like they will in boxing.

I'm watching this now- first fight on the card already over. Guy got knocked out lol.

The thing I really like about the production so far, is that there's no fluff between fights.

The first fight ended and the two guys for the next fight are already in the ring, literally within 5 minutes.

i like that its not a promotion using giant ass hand wraps while claiming to be bare knuckle, ive seen that for other shows and it just ends up being like a boxing match because theres still a good amount of volume to use for normal blocking etc

It's entertaining in its way. Ref does break clinched.

Yeah the refs are breaking it up more than ive seen in the past. That has to favour Paulie

I thought they only break it up if both arms are tied up for 3 seconds or more. :maybe:

Lol. Shut your mesh. He could have at least thrown more than 3 punches a round, he’s a boxer ffs and people paid for this...not me though :)
