I admit I'm only speculating. It's pretty bad form though for a top rated fighter to be so far out of shape that 6 weeks isn't enough time to get fit, with no weight limit to hit. There's somewhere in the ballpark of $5mil on offer. Ortiz hasn't earned that much over the past 10 years, all fights combined, and won't be in line for anything close to that much for the rest of his career, unless he can get himself a mandatory position for Joshua.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑19 Apr 2019, 11:51 Ortiz was at peak fitness when he knew about the Wilder bout 12 weeks prior to their fight-date, since he had only just competed and finished a training camp.
I admit you might be right. So, it will be Hunter, likely (and unfortunately).............Deleted_Scenes wrote: ↑19 Apr 2019, 13:45 I admit I'm only speculating. Makes me wonder if there isn't some other reason. Again, it's speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if Haymon is blocking it, so as not to strengthen Joshua's position in future Wilder negotiations, should he win impressively (not suggesting he would).
It's all disappointing, whatever the reason. At least Joshua vs Hunter is still a better fight than Fury vs Schwarz.![]()
