Nicely put, but I tend to disagree. I think Allen will be much improved when he fights Price. Hughie just doesn't seem to want to be in there, to me. Really funny post!

Yeah Hughie would run rings around Allen, it’d be a terrible matchup for him.

Easy win though and good for his profile,..Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑30 Apr 2019, 19:31 Yeah Hughie would run rings around Allen, it’d be a terrible matchup for him.
Re: David Allen v David Price - July 20th
You guys give Hughie too much credit.
Re: David Allen v David Price - July 20th
nah,i dont really rate hughie, im just compare him to dave allen, a guy outboxed by lenroy thomas and losing every completed round to nick webb and lucas browne. parker and pulev had a hard enough time landing clean and they didnt hurt hughie
now your giving allen too much credit
Re: David Allen v David Price - July 20th
Maybe, but looking forward not back. We'll see what happens after he KO's Price.jamamb wrote: ↑30 Apr 2019, 20:10 nah,i dont really rate hughie, im just compare him to dave allen, a guy outboxed by lenroy thomas and losing every completed round to nick webb and lucas browne. parker and pulev had a hard enough time landing clean and they didnt hurt hughie

Re: David Allen v David Price - July 20th
he can ko price (allens the fave btw) and id still pick hughie to beat him easy
i mean ppl say price is shot and shouldnt be boxing, but then act like allen beating him is some big deal?
allen is being matched 'fun' and very strategically vs vulnerable guys who are much older and near the end. browne shoudve lost to soko. pretty much anyone who is even a fringe contender still with it beats aellen not too difficulty i think

I'm sure. I'm saying let's see if he shows improvement having had a second consecutive proper training camp.jamamb wrote: ↑30 Apr 2019, 20:18 he can ko price (allens the fave btw) and id still pick hughie to beat him easy

Can I see him beating the likes of Gorman, Dubois, Hughie Fury and Joyce - no I cannot. He could give them a fight, and they would need to work for the win - but they are a level above IMO.
Perhaps in a different era he could have been very competitive and possibly win the British title - but I would say he's a level below the current crop - even though now he is possibly ranked above some of them with his Browne win.
I always put area level as the guys making up the numbers in the division. The Nick Webb types. A step above the riff-raff but below the likes of Sexton.
For me, Allen is this generations Big John McDermot . A solid British level fighter who will always pose a challenge and might even upset the odds, like Big John did by arguably beating Fury.

I think it’s a little unfair on Allen to rigidly go off his past fights when judging him and not to consider how he seems to have got himself together now, with his mindset and dedication right he is a more capable fighter than he has appeared. I would suggest when focused he is solid national level.

I would agree with the John McDermot analogy - to me though John wasn't British title level - he was game and he fought one of the poorer British champions in recent times (the shot Danny Williams) and ran him close, but didn't win..... for me, just a thing on semantics, British level is someone who SHOULD win the British title.tigermoth87 wrote: ↑01 May 2019, 03:12 I always put area level as the guys making up the numbers in the division. For me John McDermott and Dave Allen is somewhere between Area and British level - a solid challenger for the British title (like a Keith Long before them also), but more like someone who COULD win the British title as opposed to SHOULD win the British title. Sam Sexton would be the same but due to some amazing good fortune his "could" became a did. He was usually exposed at the British title fight, but then he was lucky in his vacant title fight, fighting someone who was IMO sub British title standard.
Even though there is a potential case for Allen to be ranked 5 or 6 in the UK (and consider the top 3 are in the worlds top 4 that aint bad) - I would say there are 9 Heavyweights from the UK who beats him. He'll be competitive, he'll give them rounds - but I cannot see him beating 9 British heavyweights..... I don't feel that makes him British title level - but that's my semantics.

It's a sad day for Price that Allen is the favourite. It really emphasises how far he has fallen! The Price that was mowing down Harrison, Dallas, Skelton, McDermott etc would've made easy work of Allen but he's lost his confidence and there's a mental barrier there that he'll never be able to climb.jamamb wrote: ↑30 Apr 2019, 20:18 he can ko price (allens the fave btw) and id still pick hughie to beat him easy

I’ve said a million times on here, Dave has an incredible chin. Price best be on point.

Hughie would piss all over Allen. Literally the perfect opponent for Hughie. Plodding and lacking technique, work rate and power. Hughie wouldn’t lose a roundjamamb wrote: ↑30 Apr 2019, 20:18 he can ko price (allens the fave btw) and id still pick hughie to beat him easy

Re: David Allen v David Price - July 20th
Agreed. Hughie has his flaws and to be honest I don’t think he’ll get any better than he is - a slick guy with a decent output and fast-ish hands but couldn’t crack an egg at the top level. He’d school Allen easily though.lillywhite14 wrote: ↑04 May 2019, 10:07 Hughie would piss all over Allen. Literally the perfect opponent for Hughie. Hearn and Allen know it too. They’ll keep him well away from someone like Hughie.
It’s amusing they were talking about crashing the top 10-15 if he beats Price. Boxing so much smoke and mirrors. There’s 6/7 British heavies alone that would beat Allen!

He can't seem to stand his ground and work them over anymore, so if they're still there after 5 rounds you see the demons start to overcome him. He had Kash Ali spent and desperate, and still was on the verge of losing!Stuarty wrote: ↑04 May 2019, 08:57 It's a sad day for Price that Allen is the favourite. Re: David Allen v David Price - July 20th
Agreed, especially with Allen having proper training camps. He's only 27 and is coachable. I think Allen will surprise some folks on this forum. He's limited, but he can take Hughie.
Re: David Allen v David Price - July 20th
lol now allen getting overrated by his new bandwagon more then anyone has underrated him
he beat two guys who were worse then soko,, and even then lost every round that was completed. hughie didnt get folded by parker or pulev (allen wouldnt win a round vs these guys) and certanly wouldnt by allen, hughie is not nick webb or old shot eating punches browne.

I just don't rate Hughie very high. As I've said before, Allen won't ever be a world beater, but I think he can improve.jamamb wrote: ↑04 May 2019, 14:44 lol now allen getting overrated by his new bandwagon more then anyone has underrated him

Re: David Allen v David Price - July 20th
neither do i , hes still way better then allen
soko ktfo webb too and i thought he beat browne. thats the level of guys allens beat (in other words worse then sokolowski) to somehow now get framed as a vastly improved guy who is approaching the top 15 etc and beating contenders. for those ppl to thten call him underrated is funny
he would hardly touch hughie
