Yeah, AJ got the gold, but 105 amateur fight seasons a man. I disagree that AJ was far better. But not so much that I want a debate on it.

AJ will have a game plan for the rematch and I'd bet he wins this time. Nothing fancy, just hard jabs to the head and keeping proper distance. Be patient and wait for the openings to smack Ruiz. Tighten up the defense by merely keeping his freakin hands up (no body jabs) and high guard. And lastly avoid exchanges as much as possible. First fight was a good lesson for the lad, if he can take advantage of it. He'll also be way more relaxed in there.
All this advice about AJ suddenly becoming Larry Holmes just isn't washing for me. He's not gojng to reinvent his style or get technically better in the space of 1 training camp. I've never believed in AJ, remove his power he's not even a top 10 British talent, I'd have Quigg ahead of him.

Not like Holmes  . Just like he has fought previously but some added fundamentals. AJ has worked behind his jab before. He was patient before. Re-watch vs Whyte. Or some other fights. I'm no AJ fan, but I have to be honest. He fought his worst fight ever against Ruiz. Bad coaching is partially to blame.

Josh is'nt has bad has people are making out , he fought a shocker we know that , but that does'nt mean he's all of a sudden wono good , .
Keep saying every thing was off , starting with the buisness side , with the sponsors the muti million dollar image , he become a product and lived like a coperate high flyer , not a hungry boxer , thats a big part , the mindset was'nt there , he's been regressing for a while , but he can get it back if he trains correctly and lives the life of a hungry boxer , In fact after watching it again , he was that bad , i don't think its gonna take too much of an improvement to beat Ruiz , . Although Ruiz done a brilliant job , he looked a lot better because AJ was so bad

Can't argue with a lot of that. Although I'll give Ruiz a bit more credit.

So after a quiet few rounds AJ drops Ruiz then goes in to finish, Ruiz keeps calm under fire and rocks his world with a left hook. How does a panic attack or getting dropped in sparring cause this? People are talking absolute nonsense. AJ then struggles to recover and Ruiz is reading his attacks like a book and making him pay via combinations. AJ was absolutely fine before that counter hook in round 3, actually that assault that AJ landed on Ruiz in round 3 was sharp as hell. No panic attacks, no conspiracies and no excuses. AJ has flaws and Ruiz exploited them on Saturday.

Will likely be November in the UK though
Got to allow time for Joshua's extensive overseas "strength & conditioning" programmes.

In what TV picked up, McCracken's advice was spot on. Perhaps it's fairer to question Joshua's ring IQ.

TheLeprechaun wrote: 04 Jun 2019, 18:33 I'm just not sure Joshua can do that. People have a lot of faith in Joshua outboxing ruiz but I don't see where it comes from. I didn't really see anything in the fight that would lead me to believe Joshua can do a kovalev here. I don't think he has the skills that people think he does. Hell get hit and hurt again and taken out if he gives ground to ruiz. For me he has to be willing to exchange with ruiz and get there first. He's got fast hands himself.
Aye its def no foregone conclusion that all Joshua has to do is make a few adjustments and he beats Ruiz, Ruiz lets not forget came in at late notice although the Dimitrenko fight was only a couple weeks before the AJ gig, I want Joshua to improve and be at his best but I also want Ruiz to get in decent shape as well, if he hadn't knocked Joshua would he have gassed?

Ruiz has got to prove it was no fluke and he just clipped Joshua with a shot when AJ was going for the finish, his hand speed was troubling Joshua from the 1st round, its an interesting fight

Too soon, This seems like a reaction. Joshua needed to reflect some more and take a few weeks or a month to then announce triggering the rematch. Inadvertently he's just put more pressure on himself with 6 months to go. He could have done with some time out to recharge and refresh and then announce the rematch.

Exactly, usually rematches take a while before they even start talking, this all seems a bit rushed, they should all go away and have a long talk, see what went wrong and try to make the changes, rushing things will not help Joshua.I would imagine his confidence will be shot to bits right now and getting back in the gym isn't a great idea.

Quick rematch before any mandatories can be triggered.

Now AJ has a defeat, if the alphabets get into the hands of Fury and Wilder then Joshua's marketing potential drops dramatically.

Best to go all or nothing into getting them back ASAP, then try to get Whyte and Parker/Usyk one of the shots if the rematch goes tits up, while keeping AJ filling stadiums in the UK as he rebuilds.

I still don't think it is the right move from AJ's point of view. It probably is the right move for Matchroom though. Rematch will do huge numbers and if the wheels fall off again and the public give up on AJ, there's always another fighter comes along to sell.

NO doubt that Matchroom will be pushing him to take the immediate rematch. Will be interesting to see how he copes as the date gets closer.
The AJ lifestyle will be pressure enough to make him jump straight back into the rematch

he will want to keep the jet / chopper / fleet of cars / free clothes etc for as long as he can mot to mention the 20+ entourage

all sponsorship though isn't it? its not like he is doing a Mike Tyson...

for example doesn't he still live with his mum? hardly excessive!

it would become excessive if he was paying for it !

supposedly all of his day to day living costs are pretty much covered by the sponsors who will have a clause in the contract so they can drop him when he becomes of little use to them.

If this were to happen then he would have to live within his own means which would rule out private jets & choppers .

He holds the cards though. Without him fighting, AJ will be struggling to regain the respect and adulation he held and obviously he sure as sh1t won't be getting all those belts back. Ruiz could swerve a rematch, he may get stripped, he may get sued but ya know, he will do fine financially. I doubt they sue him for anything like the amount he will earn in fights.

Make no mistake, to Joe Blow, AJ needs to right this wrong and beating someone for another vacant belt will not cut it.
