I was basically generalising. People on Facebook, YouTube, etc--- theres always this mindset MMA guys can't throw down with boxers. But if you change the perameters just a bit, you see that any guy can beat the favorite.

2019 is surely the year of upsets.

This would suggest that this style of fighting lends itself more to MMA guys I'd think. Or perhaps it's just a coincidence. These aren't exactly the cream of the crop boxers or MMA fighters of the world in any case.
Back in the olden times alot of the American and British champion boxers were wrestlers who could box a little bit. So in a way I'm not exactly surprised considering the rules, bareknuckles, judging of the contests being slightly different, etc.

It should also be noted that all of the boxers on this card were of the substandard or straight up opponent variety.

0-3
6-2
7-12-3

and Shot Malignaggi are their records respectively. Malignaggi of course has a significantly better record on paper, but we all know where he's at this point.

Now I'm sure the MMA guys weren't top notch either, and I know for a fact that Joe Riggs and Chris Leben are both shot to pieces as well, and frankly never were above mediocre in the first place.

Doubtful that you're gonna be seeing the real marquee fighters of either sport volunteering to do this at any point. This is a chance for the never wills of those sports to get some attention in a circus like environment basically.

If the best fighters in the world actually agreed to do this, it might actually take off in a significant way, but I can't see that ever happening.

That being said. Can't you just imagine the Media hoopla, if Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury with his Traveler heritage agreed to rematch in a Bareknuckle bout?

I mean it'll never happen of course, but that would actually be the perfect kinda marquee superfight to throw into this environment.

TOE THE LINE GENTLEMEN!!!!

I could see Ireland's Davey Joyce doing it as well as Paddy Jaws Ward, maybe even Tyson's brother Young Fury who now fights on the unlicensed circuit.

As for the talent in BKB regardless of organization anywhere in the world.... I'm reminded of the first dozen or so UFC cards.... They were mostly low-level guys, after all Tank Abbott was considered a wrecking machine and he was just a streetfighter.... It'll take time, and it may not be too awful far into the future, considering people like "Rowdy" Bec Rawlings is on the roster, etc.

Artem evokes the name of John L. Sullivan saying he wants the BKFC title. Nowhere near the superficial damage he had in his last fight. Clearly because Malignaggi did virtually nothing in there.

I think the chances are higher than it'll get banned altogether than it is it'll ever take off like the UFC has, but we shall see.

I hope not. Some guys ain't cut for mma or boxing. There needs to be a middle of the road avenue for people. Everybody needs to have a place to go, and its all under one umbrella (like the UFC) so it's certainly not as corrupt as boxing can be.

Btw, Malignaggi has his hands both wrapped up like crazy at the press conference. He's certainly the one worse for wear.

Meh.... In my view the reason why Britain or Europe has an advantage over America is they have semi-pro fights.... Amateurs and pros have that middle ground to go to and stay busy, etc.

But regardless some people are just great at infighting, brawling, etc--- and they can't get beyond the running man tactics of many people in pro boxing, or the ground game in MMA--- so for me this is a great alternative for plenty of people.

Hell, I wish this came out wayyyyyy sooner than it has cus I'd of loved to have tried it.

The 'owners' interview reeked of someone that's not going to pay. One thing I will say about boxing skills transferred to fist fighting is there is a difference. Paulie's nervous energy with the hand and leg quivering for no reason hurt him again.

I can't believe Malignaggi is still making excuses or dismissing everything. He's just digging himself into a deeper hole.

"I'm 38 years old"

"I only got hit clean once"

"I broke my hand in the second round"

"The judges robbed me"

"I hit Artem with everything but the kitchen sink"

If we all thought the breakdown after McGregor was bad Malignaggi will be worse after this, losing to a 14-15 MMA fighter in basically boxing without gloves.

Thought Paulie did great making him miss. Footwork was great even at 38.

Paulie tried to box as much as his shabby and rusty body could allow him to do it, but still he should have jabbed more at least.

Not really sure what the “semi pro” fights are that you’re talking about, there’s no such thing, unlicensed has been referred to as semi pro before but it’s not something a pro or an amateur would just dip into.

Just reading this back is weird to see Henry mouthing off about Paulie after having scored the fight for him? :maybe:

The first time was from a boxing scorecard point of view. Had this been the MQ rules, you could argue 1 or 2 rounds was even, with Paulie winning 2 and Artem winning 1 flat out.

However, considering BKFC scores aggression and attempts at aggression, more so than defense--- Artem was the only guy throwing the power punches, Artem was the only one pressing the issue even if he missed shots. So it's easy to see in that lens why Paulie lost.

That being said, rewatching the fight, especially from that vantage point of nearly up above the two men--- all Paulie did was jab, spin around, dodge and throw one or two hooks per round. So in retrospect, he lost even if this was a gloved boxing match because he did nothing to stand out ahead of Artem.

That's what I'm referring to.

Historically many pros and amateurs fought in white collar. Roy Shaw, Cliff Fields, Kevin Paddock, as well as men like Julius Francis & Scott Gammon fought in it and they were pros.

In recent years, one of the more successful BKB fighters has been James McCrory and he was an amateur who had like 80+ white collar matches. He was a champion of one of those BKB organizations, BBAD I think it was. Unfortunately he got kayoed by Davey Joyce in a Toughman contest in Ireland (both wore MMA gloves in boxing rules) and he's never quite had the same reputation.

It's always been a mix, white collar that is. It's not just hard types, but ex pros or amateurs trying to make a few bucks.
