There was once a time when GGG was an “anyone-anytime-anywhere” type of boxer, but according to his own employee, Tom Loeffler, Golovkin decided to walk away from fights against Billy Joe Saunders on two separate occasions, after the Brit had already agreed terms and signed contracts.

The reason for GGG withdrawing on both occasions, Canelo, regardless of any “official” excuses conveyed at the time. Gennadiy didn’t want to risk losing a huge payday opportunity.

If Gennadiy Golovkin doesn’t fight Canelo, then he won’t face anyone notable (as per the Vanes Martirosyan and Steve Rolls bouts), despite there being an abundance of talent competing at 160lbs.

I guarantee you that “The Businessman” GGG won’t fight a top guy if he can’t secure a bout against Canelo next.

GGG appreciates that he cannot afford to suffer a loss against the likes of Andrade, Saunders or Jacobs, because it’ll result in him missing out on the Canelo jackpot!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but GGG is prioritising his commercial worth over his legacy.
