I've watched the Sęk fight too and yeah Yarde is too open, raw and lacks in his skillset and experience are evident, visible. I don't say he's bad, Just imo evidently not the top 5 or even top 10 skill wise, he has some pop in his punches but for now i cant see him being a threat for Kovalyov as he is clearly limited. He has top potential maybe but for now i am in the "its too early for such a step up" camp. Kovalyov is an offensive monster, much better technically, much better jab, his power is at worst comparable to Yarde's, the Russian is not great in defensive aspects but imo Yarde is even easier to hit.
Where has he been too open? Do you guys have any actual examples, or are you just saying random words ?
He has been too open v low end comp. I have already posted that it is very possible that he will tighten up against the greater threat, but we have no way of knowing until the fight happens.Riddick Blowe wrote: ↑17 Aug 2019, 19:21Where has he been too open? Yarde hasn’t been hit with anything big yet. That’s the whole reason we don’t have much idea how he will react when he gets hit by kovalev, because there’s so little he’s had to take. And that’s in part because, no, he isn’t ‘entirely too open’.
A basic look at his fights shows he knows what he’s doing in there defensively, rolls well, blocks well, decent guard, very good reflexes, seems able to hold his own against inside action.
Sęk Just wasn't good enough to take advantage of that, Kovalyov will do that thoughRiddick Blowe wrote: ↑17 Aug 2019, 19:14 I also love how the Sek fight is now some flagship example of how open Yarde is, when there is literally 3 seconds in round 6 where Sek lands a couple of glancing shots, and gets beats up for every second of the rest of the fight![]()

If you cannot see how open Yarde was to the overhand right and left hook v Reeves I don’t know what to say about your eye sight. Reeves was obviously out gunned and Yarde has no respect for his power, but that does not change the fact that he was wide open.
Sjek even landed too many unnecessary right hands, and a couple of lhooks.

Comparing Yarde to Spence should not be considered a major criticism. But, if he is as open v Kovalev he is going to get seriously hurt.
I know English isn’t your first language but if you’re going to describe a young fighter as ‘lacking in skill set’ and ‘clearly limited’, that fits someone like Nathan Gorman, not Anthony Yarde. There’s no way the punch variety Yarde shows, the accuracy, poise, distance, and speed, befit someone who is ‘clearly limited’. It’s just plain wrong to describe him as that.dagilechia wrote: ↑18 Aug 2019, 01:15You mean he doesn't have any lacks? What he actually does better than Kovalyov does?
It has nothing to do with my language skilks, i really think he is limited and lacks skillset. BUT I mean compared to top fighter like Kovalyov, because compared to other prospects and for a guy with such a small experience yes he is very decent. He has a poor jab and he is too open, his movement is decent but not great too, he wouldn't keep Kovalyov out of him for too long, the Russian will expose him. That said, Yarde has a future potential but for now, the eye test clearly suggest he's not enough for the top fighters.Riddick Blowe wrote: ↑18 Aug 2019, 03:53I know English isn’t your first language but if you’re going to describe a young fighter as ‘lacking in skill set’ and ‘clearly limited’, that fits someone like Nathan Gorman, not Anthony Yarde. In terms of improvement he needs to use his jab more. He also moves well but could be on his toes more.
Well describing him as limited in relation to kovalev is different. By that criteria, the vast majority of fighters will be limited. I talk about his skills on an absolute level, which is how most people go about it.dagilechia wrote: ↑18 Aug 2019, 04:14It has nothing to do with my language skilks, i really think he is limited and lacks skillset. I May be wrong of course. Its Just my opinion.
My eyesight is really bad related to the Sek fight since I have not seen it.Riddick Blowe wrote: ↑18 Aug 2019, 03:47Open but... still didn’t really get hitironbeard wrote: ↑17 Aug 2019, 21:52

Was prime Roy Jones open, just because he had his hands down?
I think you’re right about Yarde neglecting defence because he knew he could walk through the guy, but guess what, when you look at that compared to the Sek fight, Yarde has tightened up and is more patient and controlled.
And if you think Sek caught Yarde with anything meaningful for more than 4 seconds of the entire fight, I don’t know what to say about YOUR eyesight.
I was one of those people!margaret thatcher wrote: ↑18 Aug 2019, 14:22 I give Yarde big credit if he wins. People talk of Kov's downfall, but in his last two fights with the good Eledier Alvarez he arguably lost no more than 2 rounds and he has never lost to or been close to losing to anything but good opposition. He had legal issues before the Alvarez rematch too, but then still dominated
Remember, Yarde is a guy so many people were crying about not fighting Callum Johnson or Burton. Beating even a faded Kov has to rate far above that
