That was who sprung to my mind when this nonsense was announced. Or Richie woodhall/robin reid.

I think Richie Woodhall has a bad back. Robin Reid is another decent match I suppose, but still a lot younger. Probably would have have ended up an ugly maul ...probably will whoever Nigel gets matched against.

So is this gig a charity fight or something?

It’s a money making exercise for BIBA and the promotors

Hasn't Benn trained Bika in Australia? Sure I read that somewhere. They are probably mates.

Simply the most ridiculous bollox I have heard in years ..

Benn was shot at the end and looked a bit sad so why would he be suddenly much better now !

Hope the licencing bods step in and block it

Well Jesus h Christ.

I'm very surprised this hasn't been well publicised as it's a big fight for biba. I can't believe Benn would go there, I wonder if Harley will follow

Bloody hell it is biba, Benn fighting at light heavyweight.no other fights on the bill as of yet.

I'm quite shocked to be honest. I thought this was just going to be a charity event.

There's no good match ups for a fighter benns age, especially when he looked shot to bits in his last two fights

You could be right but it also has an impact on BIBA too, it could make them better known and other decent ex pros could follow Benn's path, I just hope Frank Bruno doesnt decide he would like a comeback too.

BIBA could capitolise on this by trying to get a senior outfit going and have tournies over 8 rounds or something. It actually wouldnt surprise me that the WBA go down the same route and have a senior division in boxing over less rounds for a belt such as WBA Senior World Champion.

I think this bill with Benn on it could start the ball moving for ex pros who are either eager to fight (age shouldnt matter if one is fit) or pro who are on hard times and need a bit of cash, especially if you are a name. Just think the likes of Mike Tyson, what his name could generate for BIBA on a show.

It makes me shudder to be honest.

You only have remember people like Greg Page, losing to club fighter Dale Crowe in ten rounds when in his early 40's. The rest of his life was a misery of medical complications and he was dead by 50.

As an aside, does anyone remember it being reported in Boxing News around 5 years ago that Oliver McCall had had a scan and they'd found a fairly gruesome calcified fracture in either his skull or orbital socket? Think it was after he had a couple of fights in Poland. He then stopped fighting for 5 years but has started up again now. Can't see anything about scans on the Internet, so presuming all references might have been erased from history at some point.

i think it is bit selfish on conor , with dad coming back taking his thunder ,as a lot of conor billing is being Nigel son, but why watch the son when you can see the legend

I told you it’s a BIBA show but you’ve dismissed that idea

Believe me these people would put anybody in the ring as long as there’s a licence and sanctioning fee basically they’re are just copying the board model but they are licensing any boxers who have either had their board licence withdrawn or refused for whatever reason just a white collar outfit in reality

he brings exitement to the game, its gonna be in Birmingham, I am sure the media will lap it up, I think people forget how exciting he was to watch, ,
he wore his heart on his sleeve, a true fighter, I was lucky to be there in the early days, great fun, and fantastic atmospheres..
Nobody has forgotten how exciting he was, it just that when we look at the calendar these days, the bit with the year on it says 2019, not 1990.

Benn was washed up in 1996; 23 years of inactivity is not going to change that.

I'd add a year on, as by his own admission he was over the hill after the Gerald battle. In 1996 he looked ropey and average against the mentally fragile, Vincenzo Nardiello.

Yeah boxers who make ill advised comebacks or have their board licence withdrawn for whatever reason are welcomed with open arms by BIBA who will take licence and sanctioning fees off anybody
As I said earlier just a glorified white collar outfit with brilliant marketing etc

I heard tommy Jacobs against a washed up mayorga was on the card but I’m not 100% sure one thing for certain is that BIBA boss gianluca di caro will make a few quid out of it lol but having said that you have to respect his marketing ability getting people to pay for licensing and sanctioning fees for what is basically a white collar outfit tbh
