I agree in principle though, it's a practice I don't like, i want to see evenly sized fighters compete. But it's a complex problem and same day weigh ins aren't the answer. Promoters already pull dirty tricks in short-noticing journeymen so the A side doesn't lose. Making these guys dehydrate on the same day is too dangerous. 30-day, 14-day amd 7-daybweighins is a better solution.

EO gets very emotional and irrational. Gets wound up easily, like a teenager. But in his defence, he acknowledged that the last time Kovalev weighed around 10 pounds over LH he faded and was KOed by Alvarez. He also acknowledged that this same situation happened with the Ward fights, in terms of fading late. I have to give him credit - these points are valid. Clearly this weight clause is an advantage for team Canelo, no question. However, I was unsure how it would really effect Kovalev. According to EO it may play into this more than I thought although I credit the level of competition as the paramount factor.

Both men had to make 185 this morning—-don’t know if they did.

OK, so there was a rumour about an alleged 10lbs rehydration clause, but this was never officially confirmed and nor did we receive any news about Kovalev being weighed on the morning of the fight.

Kovalev’s cited only one excuse for his stoppage loss, which was due to it being too close to the Yarde fight.

So it seems that a lot of fuss was made about a non-issue, whereby Canelo took criticism about something that may not even be true.

Canelo claims he only weighs between 178lbs to 180lbs between bouts.

A lot of fighters, such as Terence Crawford, Lamont Peterson and Jarret Hurd, claim their out-of-competition weight is about 30lbs heavier than the official limit of their respective weight class.
