Nah that was later in his career. Johanesson beat him and had him down a few times but Burns was suffering badly from flu or cold or whatever it was that night. The best Burns would've handily beaten the best Johanesson imo....

He did mate and i never said anything otherwise. Burns was unwell that night though and the best Burns beats the best Johanneon.... I don't think many people will argue that one...

Jorge Linares has beat Crolla twice, Campbell and Kevin Mitchell. I would say he's probably saved his best performance for British fighters.

Harry Ramagoadi ( South African ) who I worked with and know, knocked out Derry Mathews and beat few others British lads, Jamie Arthur etc, lost to Kevin Mitchell though and Nicky cook, ended up living here for few years before he moved back to South Africa so not sure he counts

Was quite heavy handed and could of done a lot more tbh mate, but just didn’t train properly and was mad chasing women and partying when he got to the uk, lost his senses lol, if he had applied himself he could of done a lot more mate, fought John Murray, took josh Wales unbeaten record, fought quite a few here all at late notice aswell mate and all not at his best/natural fighting weight, always 1 or 2 weights above where he should of been

I believe the McAuley KO of Baby Jake may well be the most viewed KO in TV history. It used to be on the titles for Question of Sport.

Used to be the biggest height disparity in a world title fight too. Possibly still is, I don’t believe haye is six 3 nor valuev 7ft.

Funnily enough Matlala was same height as Ady Lewis and McAuley was same height as me, I boxed Ady in the amateurs when we were both seniors with the same height difference (obviously) but the smaller man won on that occasion !

How did you find it? Some say punching down is quite tricky? Ady was a decent fly, I remember him.

Yeah it’s not easy (well wasn’t for me) Ady was used to being the smaller guy and was sharp as hell and heavy handed, I lost on points but he did knock me down which was one of the 2 knockdowns I suffered in the ams (Noel Wilders was the other)

Good form, both quality fighters

Can’t remember if it was ITV, but I remember Ady getting a good television build up, before the much bigger David Guerault basically killed his career.

Must be tiring to have to throw punches so far above your head?

Aye, boxed Wilders twice, couldn’t get to grips with him at all.

Yeah Euro level a step too far but British and Commonwealth champ at 2 weights is pretty good going.
