Though IJL for me is the worst judge in british boxing and worst all round official
We look forward to his pre fight speech - "i'm the referee ...."
I like him for his sheer enthusiasm if nothing else, you can tell he's overjoyed to be involved. When Badou Jack landed one on him he absolutely loved it - happy to be a boxer again for a split second

Robert Smith essentially defending him, boxing is too far gone, it’s almost as if it was back when the mafia controlled it, Ritson corner should be drug tested thinking that he won that and easily. Madness

I came to this conclusion when Jeff Hinds kept getting passed up to be an A star referee.
At the very least he is as competent as any of the other referees I’ve seen work in a British ring.

I remember when Smith took over the board, he was going to root out corruption and nepotism, an ex fighter who cared about the lads.
Absolute bollox!

I don’t think ‘the board’ should even exist. It’s a scam. A racket.

They only became safe because of Watson. What were they about before that?
I agree that it’s down to the medical staff provided on the night to ensure safety. The board mostly ensure boxers get shafted.

To get caught looking at his mobile phone during the fight instead of watching it has to be the last straw.
However, as said it is just going to end up being a slap on the wrist.

Where profit is the first rule, which for any Limited Company it is. I would just like them to be vocal about it.

It’s limited by guarantee with no share capital, so not the usual private limited company structure

Some bad decisions there!!
With Stan (John McD Father) knocking out Terry 32 previous to the Fury vs McDermott, im sure Terry was getting his own back.

He shouldn't have been judging that fight then.
I hope Stan McDermott gave him a proper hiding back in the day.

He should never officiate again, looking at your phone instead of the fight is shit form. Bare minimum they have to look at his phone. he litraly could be on the bookies. or sending through the winner on his card to a mate to bet live. Or getting instructions on how to judge the card.
Then when his card is swung to the reveres of most peoples view. Why would you fight in England if your not the A side...

The way Hearn has thrown him under the bus - i hope other judges see this. Hearn has singled him out, talked about how something must be done etc. I'm speculating here but based on some of the shockers I've seen from O'Connor that have benefited Hearn fighters, O'Connor may feel aggrieved about Hearns conduct.

So profit is not a feature of the business and making money is immaterial.
Smith gave a different version of this in a recent interview with Boxing News.

Without a doubt. A house ref / judge if ever there was one. Helped out 1000s of fighters for all the main UK promoters - everyone knows it, but turns a blind eye ...until it’s time to take him out and put one in the back of the head.

That picture of TOC on his phone is hilarious, but my favourite TOC moment remains that time he carried a sparked Nathan Cleverly back to his stool.
