Well it has been prove over and over and over in the real world (not Mythical fights) that at a certain point, the size advantage doesn't mean anything.
Besides, Liston weighed more in many of his fights than Wilder did in his first fight against Fury.

In Liston's day no heavyweight the size of Tyson Fury came close to cracking the top 10.

It seems pretty clear that he represents a massive improvement over the big men of Liston's age. To argue otherwise you would need to believe that the very best heavyweights of today don't even measure up to the journeymen of the late 1950s/early 1960s. Sonny Liston doesn't possess Wilder's height and reach. That could make it a lot more difficult to land head shots against Fury and could make it easier for Fury to maintain distance.

Ah yes, alp's favourite modern little man Wilder at 6'7 , averaging around 225, and still totally ripped even at 230+. Not saying he or Fury are too big to beat, but I do find it funny how alp has continually brought him up like he's just some little shrimp

Liston's reach was longer than Wilder. He threw a lot punches than Wilder and was more accurate. He would have little trouble catching Fury. Liston would probably stop him fairly easily.

How can we be sure how accurate Liston will be against someone of Fury's size and skill when he never fought anyone like Fury?

I'm also doubtful even if he does land that his punches will have the effect some people are thinking. The best guys he was fighting would be light heavyweights or small cruiserweights by todays standards. What makes you think his power would translate effectively today?

Artur Beterbiev appears to be a devastating puncher at light heavy. That doesn't mean we assume he would have the same results at heavyweight.

It's not really even a question of Fury being great. Liston's competition just doesn't really give us a good idea of his abilities. I think Tony Tucker or David Tua could probably beat anyone Liston beat.

We can never be sure about any mythical fight. We can use our knowledge.
fury would have been easier for Liston to hit. He is as fast, and is a bigger target.

As for power, well can only go by what we have seen. You can say that for any mythical fight. Liston had great power. That should not be arguable.

Liston is more tested than fury. Fury looked like crap against a washed up Klitschko. He only got a draw against Wilder in the first fight. He stopped Wilder in the rematch. Those are the only fights that can go by. None of those performances were good enough to beat Liston.

Liston threw a lot more punches than Klitscho and Wilder. We know this. We don't have debate this. Fury would be getting hit more often than he ever did.

You think Tucker and Tua would have beaten anyone Liston beat? Good for you. It's doubtful and irrelevant.

Just age really. His previous fight was vs Bryant Jennings. A borefest during which Klit got a point deducted for holding. His last really good fight (not great but really good) was a couple years earlier vs Pov.

C'mon Doc. Klit was dominant vs Pov. Not quite as good vs Jennings. He was clearly well on the downside of his career vs Fury.

I never said he was washed up. Ali was washed up vs Holmes. Klit was well on the downside when he lost to Fury. End of.

Oh...sorry. I don't read much of Alp's posts. Given Klit's performance vs AJ he couldn't have been completely 'washed up' vs Fury.

I would like to amend it from "washed up" to way past his prime.

Either way, the best wlad for mythical match ups is not the one his fans call 'prime'. 15 punches a round and hugging beating Liston? Hell no

In my opinion, if Tyson Fury could get Liston into the late rounds, he could beat him, no doubt. (I'm going by memory here, but I don't recall Liston ever seeing round 10 in a fight.) The question in my mind is: Could Fury get to round 10 with Liston? Their reaches are similar, despite the height difference, and Liston's normal output is greater. Liston hit HARD! George Foreman type HARD! Your hurting my unborn Grand kids type HARD! IF Fury sees round 10, then he knocks out Liston. That's a BIG IF! My opinion is: I'm picking Liston to win, by KO, inside of 10 rounds.
