I didn’t know John Murray was ever World Champion ?
Apart from that, great piece.![]()
I couldn't believe my ears when I heard Haye saying that. Here is a guy who as you say put in one of the most cowardly performances from a British fighter I've ever seen. To top it off he got up on a table and presented his little toe to the media afterward as an excuse for why he did nothing in the fight. Lets remember, the heavyweight championship of the world was on the line too.Ricky wrote: ↑30 Nov 2020, 19:59 The quitter stuff is just bullshït bravado.
David Haye said after the fight he'd "rather be knocked spark out than lose that way". What a liar.
Haye got his shot vs Klitchko (that he got by acting like a total knob) and what did he do? He threw himself to the canvas after every shot because he was fvcking terrified of getting hit by a counter.
His showing that night was far more cowardly than anything you'll see from Dubois.
They don't come tougher than Bisping. Against GSP he was in a choke and had no way of getting out. Instead of tapping he allowed himself to get choked out and his body twitched a bit while he was on the canvas.nfc90210 wrote: ↑30 Nov 2020, 19:56 This video perfectly illustrates why eye injuries in combat sports are no joke.
I like Michael Bisping but he's a lunatic. Going blind in one eye due to injuries sustained in fights and then, rather than retiring, deciding to cheat on eye tests so that you could continue fighting is insane. It demonstrates the "warrior mentality", but is that really what we want from fighters? Doing what Dubois is the humane and sensible thing.
Though in the defense of the commissions, while Bisping went blind in the eye during his career I don't think he actually had it removed till after he retired.
Good call with going to the US but it's a big move and a big life change. He's young enough to do it. Not sure if he has any kids?Grilling Machine wrote: ↑30 Nov 2020, 19:30 Bellew was one of the first to put his boot in, but he'll never admit to turning away from Stevenson. He won my respect for getting into that ring, and lost none for what happened. He lost it for letting his ego get in the way of honesty afterwards.
Mason said he felt like quitting when he took some painful shots he wasn't used to in his first step up, but went on to give one of the bravest performances in an all-British fight. These guys are pushing themselves to face down fears we don't, rather than just not being right in the head (usually!), and we relate to that. It's why I love boxing, and Dubois-Joyce was a credit.
It's a shame Dan didn't continue, give it one last go, and then call for the doctor to stop it in the corner. Or he could've asked for the doc earlier, because it should've been stopped. And that's the crux, innit? When you're surrounded by people who care more about money and the reflected glory they're about to lose than your health, eff 'em.
If he's open to relocating to the US for a couple of years, I wonder if Breland might be a good fit? He needs a team that looks out for him. One of the things that impresses me about Dubois is that he had time for Bruno's advice, instead of dismissing it because of Frank's world-level losses. I think if he goes to the US and fights a handful of their quality B-level heavies, working with someone who gets his head and feet moving half-decently, he can still potentially win a title in the next 5 years.
Bloody hell.nfc90210 wrote: ↑30 Nov 2020, 19:56 This video perfectly illustrates why eye injuries in combat sports are no joke.

He did though.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑30 Nov 2020, 19:33coghaugen11 wrote: ↑30 Nov 2020, 18:54He did quit. Yes. Is what it is.
DDD was happy to live the rest of his life being called a quitter.
The first time I watched the pre fight Benn buildup (i was too young to watch it at the time), I remember being frightened of McClellan in interviews despite knowing what happened in the fight. I think he was one of the most intimidating guys in boxing history.
I really don't think there was any quit in McClellan. He just wasn't built that way. None of us have had blood clots on our brains and had our brains bleeding while we try to use the utmost concentration and focus in a fight.
He was literally dying and collapsed moments later. We don't know what he was going through in there and it probably started many rounds before, when he was getting hit with rabbit punches. He'd been blinking for quite some time which suggests the brain bleeding was probably already occurring. He was probably in agony and suffering from some neurological impairment where he couldn't think straight or move right. If he'd quit earlier he might have been able to have a normal life and not have to spend the rest of his life blind, deaf, probably unable to wipe his ass.
He's been living like that day in day out for the best part of 25 years yet he still gets called a quitter.
Saying he quit just doesn't feel accurate when you weigh up everything.
He'll be called a quitter for the rest of his life. It's there on film. His own free will.Wee Tommy wrote: ↑30 Nov 2020, 19:09This attitude is less than pathetic. Who do you think you are? Nail on the head. After R9 Dubois was trying to tell his trainer something and his trainer moved closer and whispered so the camera didn't pick it up. If the corner had done their job and pulled him out then Dubois wouldn't be getting this abuse.Boxing Prospect wrote: ↑30 Nov 2020, 13:17 Very confused as to why a doctor wasn't called to look at the eye before that last round, and why the corner didn't think "save him for another day"
Likewise, imagine if you will, that fight was in Sky and Dubois was Johnny Foreigner against Joyce, they'd have been calling for the corner to jump in from round 7...
Your obviously very insecure to be calling professional fighters quitters. I pity you and so does any other man whose been in a ring. McClellan could've carried on but probably would've died, so 'quit' instead. Maybe it's a not nice word but that's what's happened, the footage shows this.

Dubois quit but I wouldn’t say McClellan quit. He suffered a significant brain injury so probably had no idea what he was doing and would almost certainly been incapable of making a rationale decision.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 06:39I agree.coghaugen11 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 04:55He'll be called a quitter for the rest of his life. Quitting is a fact. You can argue the ways and wherefores, but Dubois decided to quit.
normally rate your posts tommy, but calling someone insecure cos you dont agree with them is the weakest option in regards to an internet debate.Wee Tommy wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 05:53Your obviously very insecure to be calling professional fighters quitters. Bispings hips need to be replaced too. If you listen to his podcasts and see him on UFC commentary he is the happiest guy you'll see. He takes it all as a badge of honour.Cyclops wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 04:14Bloody hell.nfc90210 wrote: ↑30 Nov 2020, 19:56 This video perfectly illustrates why eye injuries in combat sports are no joke.

you understand I wasn't the OP he was quoting right?
Fair enough mate. It’s not isolated to this subject. I just find it incredibly pathetic to be calling Dubois a quitter just doesn’t sit well. This is a guy who spends his time living in Chris Eubanks arsehole.Steveh583 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 08:06normally rate your posts tommy, but calling someone insecure cos you dont agree with them is the weakest option in regards to an internet debate.Wee Tommy wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 05:53Your obviously very insecure to be calling professional fighters quitters.
