Re: Lennox was overrated

Tyson was unfortunate. The best names on his record had major drug problems or were old or fighting out of their best divisions. His best win is probably Ruddock.
The likes of Tucker, Thomas and Tubbs showed more in the ring than one-dimensional Ruddock and achieved more. While they faced prime Tyson.
All top fighters but in the case of Thomas and Tubbs drug addled by the time they fought Tyson. Tucker went into the fight with a broken hand.DrDuke wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 10:11The likes of Tucker, Thomas and Tubbs showed more in the ring than one-dimensional Ruddock and achieved more.
Don’t be daft. Tucker, Biggs and Williams were each supposed to be the next big thing. He took out the Lineal champion in about 90 seconds - that’s as good as it gets. Nobody will ever wipe out an entire division by age 21 again.
You said he is underrated. I'm agreeing and telling you why. He would be rated higher if he'd had the opportunity to fight other top fighters who were in their prime when he was. He simply didn't. Then he lost all his big fights after prison.coghaugen11 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2020, 10:38 It just so happened every one of Mike’s opponents were coming off dialysis and out of wheelchairs to make it to the ring that night. Yep.
but at heavy weight there is no shame in getting ko, see this zero talk is dangerous , i think dubious did the right thing he had a busted eye at and at 24 has got at least 10 years left ,the man is a deacated fighter or carry on lose an eye and never fight again and be forgotten by 2021, same with this lewis ko talk , lewis came back from the ko better, mike tyson never came back from the ko , i was never the biggest lewis fan untill after his defeats, he changed it up boxed more defensive used his jab great , i think lewis in this modern day is the only boxer in the last 30 years who could beat tyson furymickey1975 wrote: ↑12 Dec 2020, 09:22 How does he get away with being sparked by two fringe heavyweights, going life and death with Ray Mercer and never gets accused of getting a gift in the Holyfield rematch?
It’s like he can’t do anything wrong.
He won’t be boxing in two years - doesn’t have the stomach for it. Probably already made for life, so we may not even see him again tbh. You either have it in you or you don’t.brilo33 wrote: ↑15 Dec 2020, 17:49but at heavy weight there is no shame in getting ko, see this zero talk is dangerous , i think dubious did the right thing he had a busted eye at and at 24 has got at least 10 years left ,the man is a deacated fighter or carry on lose an eye and never fight again and be forgotten by 2021, same with this lewis ko talk , lewis came back from the ko better, mike tyson never came back from the ko , i was never the biggest lewis fan untill after his defeats, he changed it up boxed more defensive used his jab great , i think lewis in this modern day is the only boxer in the last 30 years who could beat tyson furymickey1975 wrote: ↑12 Dec 2020, 09:22 How does he get away with being sparked by two fringe heavyweights, going life and death with Ray Mercer and never gets accused of getting a gift in the Holyfield rematch?

Calzaghe, Hatton, Haye and Froch had it in them. They got up.
Rubbish. Which one of them got their eyesocket done then? An eye injury is enough to make anyone with half a brain decide it's time to stop. Mugabi had more than the stomach for boxing and he quit with an eye injury!coghaugen11 wrote: ↑15 Dec 2020, 18:10He won’t be boxing in two years - doesn’t have the stomach for it. This is ridiculous. You would struggle to find many names in heavyweight history who could obliterate those men like Tyson did. He was a true force and to claim his title opponents weren't even "decent" is risible.

Phil Jackson was the fight where the fiercely pro Lennox mag Boxing Monthly changed their opinion about the McCall mandatory and said 'if Lewis doesn't take him seriously, he could lose'. They had already gone from McCall is a gimme to McCall is going to be his toughest test prior to Jackson.f read wrote: ↑15 Dec 2020, 18:51 I think Lennox Lewis improved in his time as champion. I seen him in person at Atlantic City NJ May 6 1994 defeating Phil Jackson. He was one dimensional every right hand seemed like a knockout punch. I was unimpressed. His next fight he was upset and stopped in two round to Oliver McCall September 24 1994 in his home country Great Britain. The next few years he lost to Rahman and defeated both Rahman and McCall. He really in my opinion became more fundamentally sound in his wins over Tommy Morrison Holyfield and Tyson. I would not say he was the greatest heavyweight of all time but certainly he is a top 5-10 in history. He came back strong after losses and beat some tough fighters. It is too bad the Bowe fight never happened in 1993-1995 that would have certainly been a super fight. I would say no he is not overrated.
I don’t mean to sound churlish or whatever, but McCall beat himself in the rematch. He had a breakdown. Not Lennox‘s fault but no-one ever mentions that.Controversial wrote: ↑17 Dec 2020, 01:44 LL wasn't over-rated, he avenged both defeats by stoppage and beat every top fighter that was available.
It’s not for me to say but I think this post might be part of what he‘s talking about. Why can’t we question Lewis‘s legacy or whatever. That’s what boxing fans do, nothing shameful about it. Sometimes Lennox seems beyond reproach on here. Why?Richard Fletcher wrote: ↑19 Dec 2020, 08:30 What on earth are you talking about, mickey 1975? Lewis is far and away the best British heavyweight of all time. He beat everyone he faced and the two defeats were aberrations. He won both Holyfield fights clearly and was widely recognised even in the US as the best heavyweight of his generation. Honestly, you really need to do your homework before posting stuff like this. Shameful.
