Agree with all this. I mean how can you be mandatory having lost your last fight.? Let alone against the p4p.

This was the worst weekend of boxing for ages - loads of shows. All awful. I even tried to watch UFC which was equally dire. The so called exciting heavyweight fight between Gane and Rosensucks reminded me of a 1980s heavyweight bore. The other fights I watched were gash too. Damn.

I think I'm going to join Adam Smith and start watching lady's netball. It cant be any worse can it?

It was perfect for Canelo,dealt with his mandatory easily,didn't get any cuts or injuries and kept him active ready to chase Saunders around.

Aye it was pretty feeble

I knew that Yildrim would be outclassed but he really let himself down by offering absolutely ziltch. I did think he’d go all out in the first couple of rounds, shoot his bolt and then get stopped after about four or five rounds, but he did nothing for as long as he was in there.
As HoS said, Canelo is like a surgeon, he’s great to watch but I don’t want to see anything like that again. The number 1 in the sport deserves more than that.

The sport can be very unfair.

You can get two flyweight knocking ten bells out of each other for 12 rounds and their combined purse could be not even a 10th of what Yildirim and his team got for essentially turning up and doing F all.

What a terrible advert for boxing. Even Eddie.Hearn in his dubois while outfit couldnt polish this.turd

He was and didn't even have to get into second gear.

I can only echo the sentiments of everyone else. Yildrim was really poor and offered very little.

At least Alverez oozed class and quality.

Scardina/Nunez was probably best fight of the weekend

Joel Diaz: Yildirim Never Recovered After Canelo Dropped Him

Joel Diaz, the trainer of Yildirim, felt the time was right to stop fight - when his boxer returned to the corner.

"The first round I watched him start to pick up a little rhythm, he was more cautious in his defense, the second round I thought he was going to loosen his hands a little more," Diaz said to ESPN Deportes.

"After the knockdown in the third round he never recovered. He got up, he was in good condition, but the goal of the trainer is to take care of him. Canelo is a great fighter, the truth is, he has many tools, he's fast, he's very confident and hits hard. "

According to Diaz, Yildirim returned to the corner after surviving the round but he was unresponsive and the veteran coach preferred not to risk further punishment by sending him out there.

"When Yildirim went down, he got up and when he got to the corner with me I asked him some questions and he didn't answer me," Diaz said.

"He was hurt and before the bell rang to start the next round I asked him the questions again and when he didn't answer me, he was totally gone and I said 'there is no point'. The truth is, in the next round Canelo was going to hurt him."

"The trainers have a very great responsibility. I know Canelo was going to improve, he was getting stronger round by round and Yildirim felt the punches. After Canelo hurt him, he was not going to recover."

WBC Prez: I'm Sorry For Yildirim, The Paper Sometimes Doesn’t Reflect The Actions

This past Saturday night was a complete mismatch, with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez retaining the WBC, WBA super middleweight titles with a three round destruction of Avni Yildirim at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Yildirim was taking punishment, round after round, with his head trainer Joel Diaz deciding to stop the fight before the start of the fourth.

There was a lot of heat on the contest taking place, with most expecting a mismatch, but Canelo was forced to take the fight because Yildirim was the mandatory challenger.

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman was at ringside, watching the one-sided fight play out.

“I’m sorry for Avni. The paper sometimes doesn’t reflect the actions, and it was very unfortunate. We had great expectations, and it’s a matter where we [at the WBC] need to look into the process that is not working in some roads," Sulaiman told Boxing Social.

“Definitely, there are things that we have to go back and look at what is happening and how things evolve. As I say, [Canelo] was tremendously successful, he was in great shape, and that stage should have been for a much greater fight."

Canelo is now scheduled to return to the ring on May 8th, when he faces undefeated WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders in a three belt unification.

“Tremendous, he’s got a sight in unifying the whole division. That’s a process in how it begins, and we can see a very active year, and hopefully it’ll continue to be like that for Canelo and boxing. A tremendous match, it’s going to be a sensational fight," Sulaiman said.

Should Canelo overcome Saunders, the next target would be a full division unification with unbeaten IBF champion Caleb Plant. That fight would be positioned to take place during Mexican Independence Day weekend in September.

Asking for purses to be withheld is extreme because this is a dangerous and potentially fatal sport,, but let's call a spade a spade here, Yildirim effectively pulled himself out by not responding when his trainer said he was giving him one more round, he took one great shot that put him down and about 2 dozen decent shots clipping his head and body for 9 minutes, he threw precisely ONE right hand himself.

We really didn't need to give Yilidirim 2 and a half million dollars to find out he didn't belong in the ring with Canelo, and he didn't even have to take that many punches himself to earn it, again I hesitate to say things like this in such a dangerous sport but he wasn;t hit THAT hard, he wasn;t "out of it", he didn;t want any more, I took a punch now I'll take that check thank you very much

So yeah, not bad for a nights "work"
