Not a sad performance in the way of being 'a shot fighter', but Colin Jones' final defeat to Don Currie
was a sickener magnified by a distraught Jones intervew minutes later.
Yes I know many a Welsh boxing fan who remain convinced that Jones could have posed a real threat but for the damage....Jones was often a slow starter

Havent checked but he probably doesn't. Liverpool stadium hosted a lot of boxing. He doesn't mean Anfield.

He was getting tanked and probably would have been KOd fairly soon afterwards if it hadn't been stopped on cuts.

Yep, genuinely iconic. Conceived and built as a Boxing venue by a cartel of boxing enthusiasts.
Different times eh?
Never got to see a fight there but went to a few memorable gigs. Real muck'n'nettles gaff, which
bit the dust as a music venue allegedly following a sex attack. Thankfully the boxing shows continued.

Eamonn Magee v takaloo was miserable from Magee. Just stood on the ropes all evening whilst takaloo was plodding in.

Castillo versus Alfonso Gomez was a tough watch. A guy who was previously a beast fighting a stone north of his best weight being bashed by a limited plodder.

I was at the final Hatton fight. He was clearly shot and his timing got worse as he got more tired, but the reaction - after the initial shock of the ending - wasn't as sad as you might have expected.

True, although DeGale looked abysmal against Medina in the fight before Jack, and then abysmal against Truax in the fight after Jack. He’d been an accident waiting to happen for years.

Yes I may have scrubbed the Medina fight from my memory as an off night, then a stand out against Jack.
The writing was on the wall after losing to Truax, and barely winning the rematch.

Ali was deluded in the build-up and his trainer, Angelo Dundee, must have known that Ali stood no chance. It was a shameful night for the sport, particularly as Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson's a few years later at the age of 42.
