I’ve watched it again and that eye looks in a right state at the end. Caved in at the bottom.
He landed some shots and showed again how a good mover can cause Canelo problems.
Thing is mate, what this fight and a few others recently have reminded me, there’s British fighters with these star am records boxed in the elite teams for years, and when it comes to the top level fights, against intelligent aggression, they can’t sustain it, and the fights play out the same every time: Degale, BjS, Campbell, at a lower level Josh Kelly, both Selby brothers, Gavin didn’t move his feet quite so much but same thing all of them have two common denominators:
‘Good (even lovely) movers’.......
Can’t defend themselves by any other means than using their feet.
So when they finally get to fight the two or three decent or even (if they’re being a bit brave) very good fighters of their entire career, they end up folding, gradually looking more and more ragged and desperate as their legs give out, cos when they’re against someone who knows how to make the ring small with small movements, be patient and cautious whilst taking opportunities to the body, using their feet and feints to put pressure on but staying defensive to make sure all the return fire is wasted energy, and waiting for the times they have their man trapped or even stationary just for 2 seconds, those dudes make them pay and break him down. It’s a constant theme. Khan only changed that pattern cos he was too stupid to sustain that style and got excited if he half landed a combo, but he had the same basic problem. Defended with his feet and nothing else.
Most of them didnt hit hard enough to get the respect of the aggressor aswell. That seems to be a common theme amongst a lot of the guys you're talking about.
yup true, same reason tho, the feet don't/can't stop moving, like they're fighting on hot bricks

Mark my words, when the non point scoring generation comes through, no headguards, there'll be a big change.
yes, I would imagine so.
certainly i hope so as currently years of top level ama experience seems to me to make them less, and not more, able to compete as top-level pros.

We have a culture that rates runners though. Our judges commentators & fans cream themselves over utter pish like Sunny Edwards. BJS legging it from Lemiuex was hailed "a masterclass".
Saunders was on his bike vs Canelo, it was an actual "masterclass" in slowing a runner by cutting the ring and banging the body, when the KO came Saunders had slowed considerably imo. Canelo forces runners to fight the way he feints in close. The fact so many idiots were scoring rounds to Saunders makes me wish the entire scoring system is just trashed completely.

The Sunny Edwards fight was dire. The African looked like he had two left feet and Sunny ran like Mo Farah for the entirety of the fight.

You didn't give Saunders a single round?

I guess it depends on what you like to see. Someone on their bike trying to avoid fighting and just stealing rounds with flicking pitter-patter punches is painful to watch .. someone who can land their own meaningful punches and avoid getting hit back is skillful.
As said - in the UK too much credit is given to these ugly boxers; in the USA as demonstrated by the scorecards on Canelo v BJS they score on meaningful shots landed.

No, not even close to winning a round.

I thought BJS was more competitive than the other Brits bar Khan.
Fielding was completely outclassed.
While Hatton and Rhodes were outclassed they both showed big balls.
Both Smiths showed balls too esp Liam but weren't particularly competitive.

Seriously ,, Tonight i was having a disagreement with my youngest so , who is a BIG Billy joe fan ,, I said he quit bla bla ,, he said bullshit his face was a mess he broke his orbital bone ect ect ect ..
So weve had a few drinks and i go to the old photo books , pull out a photo of myself , with a broken orbital bone above the eye , , now the eye was completly swollen , black and shut swelling so bad you could'nt see the eye you seen what looked like the eye but was actually a nick , the eye was not there it was under the swelling and that was for weeks , , I said and he did'nt believe that swelling was INSTANT within 30 seconds ,, so we got the judge in , HIS MOTHER she varified that it was instant within 30 seconds ,, Now i will say it was'nt boxing related , so lets not get misunderstood it was'nt boxing
So then i brought out TWO PHOTO'S one of him when he was 15 and his then girlfreind punched him in the eye , he had a mouse under it and was sat there feeling sorry for himself , it looked like Billys ,,, i then brought out another one of him after a hard sparring session , it DEFINETLY resembled Billys , bit swollen , slight nick and slight bruising , and he sustained that probably a few days before his FIRST ameteur fight ..
He then acknoledged that his actually looked worse and mine in comparison was light and day ,,, But one thing the doctors at the hosp told me was . you sustained your s on top of the eye , and given time it will heal ,,, BUT if it was UNDERNEATH ala Billy Saunders , you would need a plate to stop the eye from dropping , LETS see if Billy has surgery and a plate or it was just a mouse with a knick and a slight cut ...
pERSONALY I THINK IT WAS A MOUSE and a fook you thanks for the millions
Absolute codswallop.
You cannot assume that the outward appearance of an injury is definitive evidence of the damage within.
My brother was diagnosed with a badly swollen achilles, an injury picked up playing Badminton. 3 months later a second consultant viewing the initial scans said it had snapped, which in essence meant he should not have had as much movement in the ankle as he had.
Thats crap , you snap your achilles tendon your not walking
Ever heard of Google?
Type in 'can you still walk with a snapped Achilles tendon?.......and guess what comes up top of the page
Patients with rupture of the Achilles tendon can still walk. Patients with rupture of the Achilles tendon can still actively move the ankle up and down. Patients with an Achilles tendon rupture may even manage to stand on tiptoes (on both feet together — though not on the injured limb alone).
